167. Mari-nee and the Shocking Notification

After two relentless weeks of battling monsters and enduring grueling level grinding, we finally reached the level cap.

Whether we were truly “safe” is questionable, but the overwhelming relief of being freed from this ordeal was likely shared by everyone, not just me.

Although the class change notifications had arrived, Kanna-san and Mareus-san prioritized returning to the capital over even glancing at them.

After taking a full day to rest, I finally checked the notification in my room at home.

<<You have reached level 50. A class change is now possible. The class change will be overseen by the King.>>

“……”

I stared at the notification, speechless.

Why is the King involved in my class change?

And why is there that unsettling phrase, “overseen”?

As a sense of unease crept over me, a loud knock suddenly echoed at my door, as if on cue.

“M-Maria-san, Maria-san!!”

It was Retya-san’s voice, sounding unusually urgent.

This felt familiar, like it had happened before…

After mentally preparing myself, I opened the door to find a flustered Retya-san, and behind her…

“It seems the time has finally come for you to take the next step, Maria.”

The King stood there, arms crossed, looking quite pleased with himself.

“……”

For the second time today, I was rendered speechless.

I had somewhat expected this, but I hadn’t anticipated that the King would be right outside my door.

And what’s more, he uttered something completely unexpected.

From the context, it was clear he was referring to the class change.

But how did he know that I had met the conditions?

As I wondered about this, the King, almost as if he had read my mind, explained.

“A divine revelation came at dawn, informing me of your situation. It also stated that my power would be necessary.”

“A divine revelation!?”

A divine revelation is supposed to convey important matters related to the fate of the kingdom.

The fact that it was used to communicate my situation… What on earth could this mean?

I’m just an ordinary adventurer…

Wait, what? Could it be that my definition of “ordinary” is completely off?

I pretended not to hear such a suggestion.

As I pondered over these trivial thoughts, events proceeded just as the notification indicated, with the King overseeing the entire process.

Holding my hand, the King practically led me off like a lamb to slaughter, guiding me to a small room on the first floor—a room that could very well be described as the King’s private chamber.

From there, we entered a hidden passage beneath a carpet and walked down a dark, narrow path.

Even with my [Night Vision], I could only barely make out the way ahead, yet the King moved with an unnervingly light step.

We twisted and turned through the passageway, walking for what felt like thirty minutes, until the King suddenly stopped. In front of us stood a heavy door adorned with the image of a lion.

I didn’t see any keyhole, so I wondered how it would open. The King reached into the lion’s mouth, and as soon as he did, the door unexpectedly slid open with a smooth motion.

As I stepped inside, I found myself in a vast, dome-shaped space, where countless lights flickered in the darkness.

“Is this… a starry sky?”

“It is a place designed to resemble the night sky, known since ancient times as the Great Star Hall.”

Even as I looked up again, the sky above was so convincing that it could easily be mistaken for the real thing.

As I let out a sigh of awe, the King moved further into the chamber.

There, besides the King, stood two other figures.

Both were people I knew well—Estelle-san and Zela-san.
