Mebius World Online – Mari’s VRMMO Diary, Embarking on a Laid-back Adventure as a Novice - Chapter 192
192. Mari-nee and the Defense Battle (Part Two)
“So, I thought someone was sneaking around and doing something, and it turns out it’s you, Jade!”
“Did you find me out? Since I’m doing it quietly, you could just pretend you didn’t see anything, you know?”
In response to his usual carefree tone, Judas-san revealed his anger.
“Who would hear that and let it slide!?”
“Come on, calm down. It’s better to keep a broad mind, don’t you think?”
“Don’t drag me into this,” I interjected.
“Hmph.”
Hey, that’s not something to hesitate over.
How many times do you think this exchange has already happened?
I understand how Judas-san must feel, wanting to raise his voice in frustration.
But even while Jade-san seemed unserious, his hands never stopped drawing the pattern.
Maybe this exchange is just a way to buy time.
“So, this is what they call a rebellious phase… It’s surprisingly tough to deal with when it actually happens, girl.”
“Stop dragging me into this. And I am not Jade-san’s daughter!”
I take back what I said earlier — maybe he just wants to tease me…
While doubts rose within me, Judas-san seemed to heighten his vigilance instead.
“The more serious you get, the more you joke around. I don’t know what you’re planning, but I’ll crush it here and now!”
As Judas-san glanced at Leon and the others, they all rushed toward us.
I know how strong they are.
The people from the church, who are already dealing with monsters, wouldn’t be able to handle them as a side job.
Just as that concern began to grow, a vivid scarlet flash ran and stood in Leon’s group’s path.
“You won’t get past this point!” Roulette-san declared.
Her relaxed tone contrasted with her fists, which she clapped together with determination.
“Leave this to us!”
“We should be able to endure better than before… because I’m here.”
“Kanna-san, Mareus-san…”
Though their words were a bit unsettling, because we fought together in the Great Magic Forest, I could trust them with this.
So I must also respond with all my strength.
“Sorry, Gils, but we’re jumping straight into the thick of it.”
“There’s no need to apologize. I’ve been waiting for the chance to experience Vel’s true power with this body,” Gils replied without slowing his attacks.
The equipment feature [Soul Manifest Ascension] of the [Thread of Heaven] that transformed Vel into a black-and-white bird…
I had never tried it on Gils before, but it should definitely help.
The moment the pressure from the monsters lessened, aided by the church members, I activated [Soul Manifest Ascension] on Gils.
The transformation was quiet yet conveyed a strong sense of movement.
His muscles seemed to swell, pushing out from within his clothes.
His long silver hair extended even further, now reaching down to his waist.
Gils started walking calmly and easily swatted away the two-headed snake that the church members had been battling.
With just that, the snake flew away as if it had been hit by a truck.
“…”
The people from the church and I stood there, mouths agape.
I knew he would become stronger, but I didn’t expect it to be this much.
While I was in shock, Gils eagerly charged into the mass of monsters.
In his hands, he held the Dragon Threads.
The Dragon Threads slashed through the monsters freely, not even allowing them the chance to resist.
It was a massacre reminiscent of what we saw in the “Cave of Vows.”
It was now being replayed.
As I was captivated by Gils’ strength, a loud impact sound erupted from a short distance away.
Looking over, I saw Roulette-san single-handedly holding her own against Leon and his entire group.
With Kanna-san and Mareus-san added, it was three against four.
However, the reality was that the two of them focused solely on support, leaving Roulette-san to handle most of the offense and defense.
Normally, this would be impossible, but she seemed to have a trump card, as she had mentioned.
“Is that… the attack that Roulette-san used when she was possessed?”
An attack that’s invisible and disregards distance.
While facing off against Giran, Roulette-san deftly changed positions in small steps, using him like a shield and keeping Arx and Leon at bay with her attacks.
Because they were so tightly packed together, Mist’s magic was naturally sealed.
Even if they tried to retreat, she closed the distance instantly, preventing any chanting.
It seemed that Kanna-san’s status enhancements were helping with this, too. (or debuff)
Meanwhile, Mareus-san was mostly acting as Kanna-san’s guard.
The battle stabilized, and time continued to pass.
It was fortunate for us, as it allowed us to buy more time.
However, Judas-san wasn’t going to let it slide that easily.
“You’re doing better than I expected. In that case, we’ll have to remove our restraints!”
Immediately afterward, Judas-san and his group pressed a black substance against the nearby monsters.
A flash of black light erupted.
When the light faded, the monsters had grown numerous human limbs, and faces appeared all over their skin.
The grotesque transformation made me want to look away, but a voice that seemed to echo from the depths of the earth forbade it.
“The real fight begins now!!”
