203. Mari-nee and Daily Life
A few days after the fateful encounter beneath the cherry blossoms.
As I faced each emotion that welled up within me, my heart gradually began to calm.
This was all thanks to Masato and Maki, who stayed by my side, watching over me and sometimes sharing my feelings.
Had I been alone, it would have taken me much longer to sort through my heartache and tears.
“I’m so grateful to you both, especially for helping me keep my promise to Mikage-san and the others.”
I murmured these words with deep reflection, and suddenly, the faces of everyone from Mebius flashed through my mind.
Come to think of it, I hadn’t logged in for quite some time, and they might be worried about me over there too.
With that thought, I couldn’t sit still. That very night, I put on my Blind Circlet and descended into the world of Mebius.
Upon checking the time in my room at home, I saw it was just past 8 a.m.
At this hour, I would normally hear the voices of Retya-san and Ryle coming from downstairs as they opened the dining hall, but the house was eerily quiet.
I wondered what had happened, but quickly realized that it was my fault.
Since I had stopped logging in so abruptly, the prepared dishes must have run out.
Even though they could adjust the portions, there was only so much they could do.
“I’ll apologize properly, but before that…”
I decided to call my family in this world first.
Gils and Vel appeared, and after a brief moment of hesitation, they rushed over as soon as they saw me.
“Maria!”
“Piiyo!”
Gils hugged me tightly, and Vel, who jumped from his shoulder onto mine, nuzzled against my cheek.
Their strong embrace conveyed their feelings to me.
“I’m sorry for making you worry.”
I managed to hold back my overflowing emotions and said these words, to which they simply smiled, as if to say, “Don’t worry about it.”
In both the real world and the world of Mebius, I was blessed with a wonderful family.
Feeling a renewed sense of gratitude, I placed my hands over theirs.
“Thank you,” I whispered softly.
A little while later, we made our way downstairs.
Heading towards the familiar cooking counter, I checked the clan’s shared item box. As expected, the pre-prepared food had run out.
Yet, the most frequently used ingredients were stocked in abundance, almost as if they had been waiting for my return.
“Let’s make a lot… to make up for the time I was away.”
I wiped away the tears from my eyes and decided to make my signature cassoulet.
Without a word, Gils started preparing the necessary utensils, and Vel began inspecting the white beans, picking out the immature ones.
Though, with Vel pecking at them, it looked more like he was sneaking bites, and I had to try hard to stifle my laughter.
I shouldn’t laugh, after all—he was helping with all his might.
Using my skills like ?Preparation? and ?Enhancement?, I took extra care to make everything perfect this time.
I wanted it to taste even better, to bring joy to those who would eat it.
As the delightful aroma of the simmering cassoulet began to fill the air, I heard the sound of a door opening from somewhere.
Lifting my head from the pot I was tending to, I saw Roulette-san entering from the annex, her eyes widening in surprise.
I, too, was taken aback by the sudden reunion and froze in place.
But it seemed she felt the same, and after a few moments of staring at each other…
“Hehe.”
At the same time, we both broke into laughter.
The tension melted away, and the words I needed to say came easily.
“I’m back, Roulette-san.”
“Welcome home, Maria-san,” she replied, her scarlet eyes softening kindly.
Almost as if they had been waiting for this moment, Kanna-san and Malleus-san appeared from behind her.
Kanna-san embraced me tightly, while Mareus-san scolded me with, “You could’ve left a message.”
But despite their words, I saw the relief in their eyes as they looked at me, and it filled me with joy.
I felt a deep sense of belonging, knowing I had a place with all of them
