205. Mari-nee and The Item Entrusted
It took Mareus-san longer than usual to recover from the damage he had taken. Given the series of well-coordinated attacks he endured, it was no wonder. In fact, it was a miracle that he even managed to stand, so much so that even Gils praised him, which was a rare occurrence.
However, there seemed to be some lingering effects, as Mareus-san’s memory appeared slightly hazy.
“I had a terribly frightening dream… Like being caught in a never-ending car crash… It was spine-chilling,” he muttered.
“That does sound terrifying,” I replied, my words becoming awkward as I struggled to suppress my reaction.
I was glad there wasn’t a mirror nearby. Mareus-san’s face was swollen beyond recognition, making him look like a completely different person. If he saw himself, he might snap out of his dream state—and who knows if that would be better or worse than continuing to believe in the nightmare he described.
Seeing the clan members gathered around, I decided to change the atmosphere and brightly suggested, “Since everyone is here, why don’t we check what’s inside the box together?”
Kanna-san and Roulette-san, who had been somewhat agitated just moments ago, lit up with excitement at my suggestion.
“Oh, I’ve been curious, so I’d love that!” Kanna-san exclaimed.
“If it’s something Jade entrusted to only Maria-san, it must be something amazing!” added Roulette-san, equally enthusiastic.
Great, the mood had successfully shifted.
Mareus-san looked like he wanted to say something too, but he only mouthed words, unable to speak. Perhaps he instinctively understood that his earlier lack of tact had led to the earlier “incident.”
“Alright, I’m opening it.”
With everyone watching closely, I opened the box.
Inside was a translucent, blue orb.
I picked it up to inspect it, and the accompanying description read:
[Soul of Nirvana]
A knowledgeable entity that leads its owner to what they truly desire. While it contains limitless potential, it requires a wielder of exceptionally high intellect. It will not show its true power when combined with ordinary items.
The description, along with the word “soul,” felt oddly familiar.
Could it be similar to the [Soul of Calamity] that resides in Gils?
However, it didn’t seem like something I could handle easily, and I found myself at a loss for what to do next. In contrast to my bewilderment, the three others who read the description were filled with resolve.
“That’s a real challenge! It’s like it’s taunting us!” Mareus-san roared.
“High intellect and ‘ordinary items,’ huh? Now they’ve got us fired up!” Kanna-san added.
“It’s time to show what we’re really capable of!” Roulette-san chimed in.
Their fighting spirit was palpable.
It seemed we were heading toward the same course of action we took with Gils—another long training retreat in isolation. I’d have to let Retya-san know so that everyone doesn’t end up collapsing from hunger like last time.
As I pondered what sort of provisions to bring, I suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder from behind.
Sensing the ominous aura, I awkwardly turned around to find Estelle-san standing there.
Her eyes narrowed, and her lips curved into a faint, gentle smile—almost like that of a compassionate mother. However, the overwhelming pressure emanating from her was unmistakable. Even Vel and Gils shrank away.
Without a word, she took my hand and led me toward her room in silence.
I glanced back, hoping someone would stop her, but no one met my gaze. Even the king had mysteriously disappeared.
When did he leave!?
In no time, we arrived at Estelle-san’s room deep within the church. As soon as we entered, I heard the sound of the door locking behind us—a clear indication that there would be no escape.
For the remainder of the time, as Estelle-san’s emotions played out, I could do nothing but silently count the spots on the ceiling.
Maria (Mariannator Lv 50)
- Karma (Royal Capital): 170,000 ? 200,000
- Karma (Imperial Capital): 70,000
- Karma (Oceanic Capital): 130,000
It must have been because of what Jade-san entrusted to me, but… Liberta’s karma had increased by a whopping 130,000!?
And why did the king sneakily add an extra 30,000!?
Faced with a grand total of 400,000 karma, I found myself experiencing today’s second wave of utter bewilderment…
