Mebius World Online – Mari’s VRMMO Diary, Embarking on a Laid-back Adventure as a Novice - Chapter 209
TLN: an update! Yay!
209. Mari-nee and Drifting Along with The Cloud
That night, I logged into Mebius and waited for everyone to gather before talking about the idea I had come up with together with my younger siblings.
If we were going to take action, we would need everyone’s cooperation.
Still, to be honest, I was anxious.
We weren’t going to sell anything, so there wouldn’t be any profit.
Yet we’d have to make a large number of items, with all sorts of adjustments.
Was it really okay to drag everyone into what was more of a whim—no, a selfish desire of mine?
Though I had those doubts, the looks on everyone’s faces after I finished speaking made it clear I was worrying for nothing.
“The original shape is quite simple, so if we’re going to modify it, it would be the metal fittings, right? I’m thinking of a unisex design—can you handle that, Mareus?”
“Don’t underestimate me! The stuff I make has real flair to it!”
“You act all rough, but deep down you’re actually pretty delicate, Mareus-chan.”
“What do you mean by ‘act’? I’m always considerate, aren’t I?!”
“Fufu, sure, let’s go with that.”
“The only one who doesn’t know is himself, huh?”
“You jerks!”
Just as Mareus-san flared up in rage, Kanna-san cut him off and began bringing the conversation back together.
“I’ll try handling the stonework. It’s not like I can’t work with it at all. As for manpower, we can get help from the kids studying behind the church. With the number we have right now, it should be enough.”
While everyone else was getting excited, I was the only one who couldn’t keep up with how fast things were moving.
“Um, I know I was the one who brought it up, but… we really don’t have to make such a big deal out of this.”
I was only thinking it’d be nice if we could keep it going slowly and steadily.
But at those words, everyone collectively shook their heads.
“No matter how you look at it, this is going to turn into something big. I’d bet on it.”
“I agreeee. Honestly, I think it’d be harder not to make it big.”
“Eh? I’ll say it again—we’re not even making these to sell, you know?!”
“Naive. You’re way too naive. Like eating a cake drenched in honey and molasses on top of using a ton of sugar.”
That’s beyond sweet—that sounds unhealthy.
“You really think something you’re at the center of isn’t going to turn into a big deal? No, it will.”
Did you really have to use rhetorical emphasis, Mareus-san…?
As I struggled to hold back the twitch on my face, Kanna-san spoke up in a serious tone.
“By the way, when it comes to preparing the most important part, there’s nothing we can do. Maria-chan, what about that?”
“I was thinking of asking Herel-san through the King. If we’re going to move forward, we’ll need to let both of them know.”
“That sounds best. Especially given what this involves.”
Encouraged by Roulette-san’s agreement, I suddenly noticed something and looked around.
Noticing my odd behavior, Kanna-san asked.
“What is it, Maria-chan?”
“I just thought—normally, the King would’ve shown up right about now.”
“Now that you mention it, it has been eerily quiet ever since you came back.”
Mareus-san muttered, glancing toward the small room.
“Eerily, huh…”
“He is the King. He might just be busy… though, saying that myself, it still doesn’t feel right.”
“Roulette-san…”
Why would you go and say something that sounds like a death flag?
As we all grew wary of those ominous words, the front door suddenly creaked open with a kiii.
Nervously peeking that way, the one who appeared was…
“Pippiiii-!”
It was Vel.
As soon as I let out a deep breath, the tension in my body melted away.
Apparently, I’d been more on edge than I realized.
Seeing Vel flustered like he thought he’d done something wrong, I felt bad and gently approached him, lifting him into my arms with care.
“Piyo?”
At that moment, I felt something on Vel that wasn’t his usual soft feathers.
Curious, I reached down and found a small cylindrical object fastened to his leg.
No way…
I tried to deny the thought forming in my mind, but in my heart, a past version of me was already negating that denial.
As soon as I removed the tube, its lid popped open—as if it had been waiting for that exact moment—and a small slip of paper fell out.
On it, just a short message was written:
Leave it to me.
“““……”””
Seeing those words, Roulette-san, Mareus-san, and I all fell silent.
“To send a message by letter—how stylish of the King!”
That’s not the part you should be commenting on, Kanna-san!
Wait, how did he know?! From where? Since when!?
Could he have planted a listening device in our home?
I mean, this is the guy who connected the underground passage to our little room back at home without telling us.
As I stared off into the distance with an extremely faraway look in my eyes, the clouds drifted slowly and peacefully across the blue sky…
