32. Mari-nee and Naming Thing Again

I think I saw those words in a novel.

In a scene where a high school boy, having bought a bike through a part-time job, races through the plains on the bike, the scenery flowing like it’s flying,

“Feels like I’ve become the wind.”

He murmured briefly.

Without touching on the sense of accomplishment of finally buying the bike, the incomparable speed compared to walking, or leaving behind the scenery, he only murmured that one word.

It left a strangely impressive and lingering impression on me. But now, I find myself feeling the exact same way as that boy.

Still without a name, this polar bear cub carries me, racing across the plains like the wind.

I don’t know how fast we’re going, but an exhilarating feeling I’ve never felt before rushes through my entire body.

Before I know it, we’ve reached the end of the plains, turned around, and returned to the three of them.

“…. I’m back.”

Getting off the large back, it took a little time for the usual sensation to return.

“Welcome back. You were at an unbelievable speed. Hey, Roulette-chan, Mareus-chan, what were you two doing?”

“Well, it was faster than I imagined. Using the wind magic stone of <Storm Horse> in this one’s eyes, taking reference from Nero’s ability, but that alone can’t explain it.”

“He casually dropped the name of a difficult enemy in the second area… I used <Magic Steel> on the fangs, claws, head, and joints, which bear a heavy load, but I never thought it would reach such monstrous speed.”

“Mareus-chan also casually brought out high-rank materials of the current situation…”

“What about you, Kanna?”

“I’m normal compared to those two. The material is the easily obtainable <Break Edge Wood.>”

“Indeed, it’s relatively easy to obtain in the second area, and it’s a tough material, but… how far did you actually make the skeleton?”

“I made it seriously, based on a book in the library that had the skeletal specimen of a polar bear. I memorized it and made it as genuine as possible.”

“You’re putting in as much effort, Roulette!”

What is this, it doesn’t look like they’re praising each other, but there’s a somewhat tense atmosphere.

“Um, is it because you three are amazing?”

I propose, and for some reason, they stare at me.

“Come to think of it, this one’s existence was there.”

“We forgot the biggest factor.”

“Sorry for the breach of etiquette, but, Maria-san, would you mind telling us about the skills and stats you use? We’ll keep the conversation within the party so it won’t leak outside.”

“Sure, I don’t mind.”

I accept the party request, and immediately, a conversation comes from Roulette-san.

“First, about the skills, please.”

“Understood. In addition to manipulating threads, I have a skill called ?Manipulator?. It used to be ?Puppeteer? before class change, but the name changed after the change. The skill level is 10.”

She also asks about the details of the skill.

The strength of the controlled object depends on stats, skill level, and the quality of the controlled object.

“I see. Level 10 for an advanced class mutation skill is quite impressive. The quality is good since we made it, so the rest is the stats. What’s your current DEX?”

“It’s 80.”

“Pardon? 80!?”

“Mareus-san, why did you seem so exasperated?

Oh, maybe it was lower than expected.

If that’s the case, um, it’ll be a bit higher now.

“I’m sorry, but to be precise, with equipment traits added, it’s 90.”

“A stat value approaching those specialized in status, huh.”

Oh, it wasn’t low after all?

“Almost settled. Maria-san’s skill level and stats, and, I just remembered, there might be equipment traits involved.”

Equipment traits… Ah, could it be?

“The shoes have <equipment trait> +5% movement speed, and the skirt has <equipment trait> reduced wind resistance (small).”

“Seriously? It’s too dangerous if the user’s equipment traits are factored in.”

“In exchange, Nero-chan and this one can’t recover with potions or magic, so it’s not unbalanced… probably.”

“…”

“Hey, I’d appreciate it if you didn’t stay silent at that point…”

It makes me anxious too!

In the end, with a vague conclusion that it should be okay, we decided to keep this child as hidden as possible until the event.

“By the way, what should we name it?”

Surprisingly, Mareus-san was the first to react to my words.

“It’s yours, so you should name it whatever you like.”

“True, but it’s a child born thanks to everyone. Sometimes, the one who made it also gives it a name, right?”

“Well, that’s true.”

“Naming, huh? It’s a bit embarrassing, isn’t it?”

“Even so, I think it’s appropriate to respect Maria-chan’s idea for the name. Come on, reveal the name you’ve thought of!”

When prompted by Kanna-san like that, it’s quite pressuring.

Hmm… White bear, Shirokuma, Shiro… Kuma…

“Kumata is…”

“””Let’s all think about it together.”””

“I was ignored again!?”

Why are they so perfectly coordinated only at times like this!!

…Forget it, my naming sense is useless anyway.

“Nero-chan is here, so I want to associate it with that, but the first thing that comes to mind from the name is the emperor.”

“Emperor Nero. Speaking of Nero, there’s the ‘number of the beast’ mentioned in the Book of Revelation.”

“The ‘number of the beast’ is 666, right? There was a horror movie called ‘The Omen’ in the past with that 666 birthmark, and the name of the boy with that mark was Damien.”

“Damien, ‘child of the devil.’ What do you think…”

“…”

Mareus-san asked, but I silently rejected it.

Yes, I rejected it with all my might.

The name Nero was something Estelle-san and the children thought of with all their might, and it’s too pitiful for this child to be associated with ‘child of the devil’ or something like that.

“””……Should we think of something else?”””

“Of course!”

I inadvertently raised my voice, wondering who would blame me.

I’m done…

Huh? The words I just said in response to this unreasonable flow strangely feel familiar… when was it?

“How about taking the name from tanks or armored vehicles, considering its apparent size and thickness?”

“Boys like that kind of thing, don’t they? Like Leopard or something?”

Kanna-san seems to be looking at it from a girl’s perspective, but how is it that the name suggestions come so effortlessly?

I won’t point that out, though.

“An armored vehicle suits the atmosphere more than a tank.”

“In that case, Guardian from the U.S., Dingo from Germany. Japan’s Type 96 wheeled armored vehicle… well, that’s a bit awkward as a name. Oh, the Ministry of Defense gave it the nickname Cougar.”

Whether she’s referring to an external site or not, Mareus-san’s tone has a reading-out-loud feel to it.

“Cougar… not a bad ring to it.”

“I think it’s good too.”

“Then it’s settled. This child’s name is Cougar!”

The three of them nod at each other, overflowing with a sense of satisfaction as if they had “accomplished a job.”

Thus, once again, my opinion is ignored, and the name for this child has been decided as Cougar.
