Hi, everybody. I have recently started a new novel called I’ll Become a Villainess That Will Go Down in History. You can read it HERE.
Chapter 60 A dry, cold wind blew with wind flakes
PoV: ???
A dry, cold wind blew in with windflowers, caressing the passengers in the carriage.
No matter how many layers of clothing they wore, the cold air crawled through the gaps and chilled their skin. People were constantly shifting their bodies, and those with companions were huddling together.
The sky was clear, which was unusual for winter. However, the wind was cold.
It seemed that the top cover, which was attached loosely, was not enough to protect them from the wind. Instead, it blocked the light and made it even colder.
The wheels rolled on the stones buried in the snow and made a lot of noise. Each time, the carriage moved up and down in small increments. The sunlight shone on the snowy landscape, making it sparkle.
A woman in her mid-twenties frowned and sat up, patting her waist and buttocks with the palm of her hand.
Her flat face and the distinctive costume she wore over her front indicated that she was from the east. She was not wearing a headdress, so she was probably from Keatai or Buryou, not Tildis. Her shoulder-length black hair was tied up in a haphazard bun, and she carried a long, cloth-covered spear-like weapon.
She muttered in a strong accent.
“I guess we’re not going to get there yet, my butt hurts, I’m cold, and I’m in trouble.”
“Not for much longer.”
Said the girl sitting next to the woman. She was short and looked to be in her mid to late teens. She was wearing a long, steeple-colored coat with a scarf wrapped around it, and a fluffy fur hat with drooping ears. The hair peeking out is yellowish ocher. A case that looked like a musical instrument was placed beside her.
The woman sat down again and sighed in frustration.
She took out a smoking pipe from her pocket and filled it with dried tobacco. She put it in her mouth, lit it, inhaled a lungful of smoke, and exhaled. It smelled of mint.
“It’s work, but it’s bearable… What saddens me is that I have to come to the North right in the middle of in winter…”
“When it’s cold, it would be great to have some salmon…”
The girl said and shook her body. The woman shook her head in dismay.
“You say that a lot, but what’s a salmon hot pot? Are you going to boil the fish?”
” People used to say. If it’s cold, Danshin, Tsukisuten, Shau.”
The girl is muttering as she sings.
The woman exhaled her smoke in resignation, tapping her smoking pipe near the wagon and letting the ashes fall outside.
“I can’t understand a word you’re saying, even if you speak Southern.”
“As usual, you don’t have enough rock in you.”
The girl sniffed and fanned the gourd in her hand. Her cheeks are a little red. The woman’s eyes widen.
“Hey, that’s my drink!”
“People used to say, ‘What’s yours is mine. What’s mine is mine’.”
“Shut up! You stupid mutt! I’m going to turn you into a hot pot!”
The woman snatched up the ear droop of the girl’s hat. The girl squealed. Apparently, it was not attached to the hat, but to the girl’s head. She was a beastman.
“Ouch, that hurts.”
“Damn, so that’s why you looked okay! Give me some of that!”
“Hmmm, nope, mine now.”
The woman took the gourd from her, and drank it in one gulp. Then she frowned.
“You drank it all! You idiot!”
“Oh, please don’t do that. Oh, look, I see it. They’ve arrived.”
“Shut up! Don’t try to fool me!”
“Kyan!”
The woman grabbed the girl’s head and kneaded it with her knuckles. The girl screamed. The other guests shrank back to look at them.
At the end of the carriage, the sun-lit city of Orphen appeared. But beyond that over the horizon, a thick gray cloud seemed to be moving in.
