you know, I appreciate the little anecdote about the “mad” scholar. So often when the story uses a failed transmigrator to warn against showing too much knowledge, its another woman who trips up by showing too much knowledge and independence or otherwise not conforming to the standards of the day. This usually earns the derision of the female lead, who remarks that she should have ‘not tried to overestimate herself’, ‘act like the locals do’, or otherwise stay in her lane and don’t get too full of herself. Good advice overall, but still its refreshing to see that guys are as equally prone to being stupid and arrogant, and that just because they are men doesn’t mean they get to turn the ancient world upside down with modern knowledge and ethics

Something i’ve noticed in the author’s other works (notibly Cann Fodder and Villain’s Happy Ending) and am starting to see here, is how you don’t ever feel that the male lead is looking down on the MC. Sure, he’s cold and aloof, and can kill you without hesitation, but once they start to interact the male lead takes our MC seriously and doesn’t talk down or belittle her. Even here when Gu Feichi visits Xiao Yanfei at night, he doesn’t act like being in a girl’s boudoir is beneath him, nor does he tease her about inviting strange men into her room at night. No, he calmly takes a seat when offered and has a civil conversation with her (and all without looming over her to emphasize the height/strength difference between them, or smirking/teasing her to show that he is a Big Man and XYF’s concerns are child’s play to him)
It’s still early, and I might be reading too much into it, but i loved CFaVHE, and have high hopes for this one

I was about to dislike this madam, only to realize she's truly the captain of this ship. She ships so hard our mc and ml can't escape, And I'm OK with this, because the eunuch Gao is way scarier to me and at least Gu Feichi probably won't be a scumbag at all. I like to think he also won't touch MC without her full consent and permission.
Anyways biggest factor here at the moment is that I want to clap back at that concubine cui, grand madam Xiao, the trash husband, and eunuch gao.
