“It’s not over?It’s not over?”
“You had it coming.”
After being absent from the community for so long, Pumpkin, the village chief, had a lot to deal with when he returned from Kruika to Samsara Egg Village through Kunukihappy and Maunpir Village.
He, therefore, proceeded with the paperwork while Mizuki was berating him.
Speaking of why so many documents have piled up, many adventurers and merchants from outside the village recently flocked to Lean Forest in search of premium resources. Since a child specializing in negotiations was available these days, Pumpkin let that child handle most of the work, but even so, there were still some matters that only he could resolve, which led to the collection of many documents.
However, when the matter was truly urgent, communication magic would be used, so what was piling up now was not an emergency.
“So, was it worth it to go all the way to a place as far away as Kruika?”
“There was plenty of it. I acquired various information and was able to decide on a future course of action.”
Mizuki was then informed about the information he had obtained, including that of Izumi, whom he had met in Kruika.
“What a devil of a nuisance that God is. They should take proper care of the things they made themselves.”
“That sentiment… well, it’s hard not to understand. There’s no sense in lamenting that part now, though if I ever met that God, I would complain about it at least a little bit.”
“Indeed.”
With a dismayed expression on her face, Mizuki said as much, but in all honesty, if they complained to a God or a monster that could create a weapon that can inflict “Kage-Ochi,” they may be slain in one strike. Pumpkin will consequently weigh his options for responding to the situation after meeting them.
It is not guaranteed that I will meet them in the first place.
“So now that you know what’s going on, what happens next? According to this Izumi girl, there may not be much time left, right?”
“Well… there are three things I have to do for now.”
“Three?”
“Yeah.”
To Mizuki’s questioning eyes, Pumpkin explained roughly what his next steps would be.
“One of the first things is to make sure that the day-to-day operations of the village flow seamlessly.”
“That’s what you’re doing now, isn’t it?”
“That’s right. But that is essential, right?”
“Of course. If even a day-to-day situation can’t be handled, how can a contingency plan be managed?”
“Well, that’s the point.”
In fact, not being able to lead a normal life would mean that there would be no time to accumulate strength. A tranquil daily routine was essential for everything in light of this.
The knowledge of such a tranquil everyday existence also gave him the power to use his strength in order to protect that daily life, even if it could differ somewhat from a fight or flight response.
“The second is the investigation of the ‘Kage-Ochi’.”
“Isn’t that something this Izumi girl can do for you?”
“What’s the harm in doing the investigation myself? My agreement with Izumi is something like a pact, but I am not so soft-headed as to think that it is an unbreakable agreement, nor can I place blind faith in anyone else, given what I am carrying on my shoulders.”
Izumi’s extraordinary skills have also been demonstrated by the incident of Majik’s kidnapping and the fact that she is from the Outer World. Izumi herself, though, was only a sole individual. Even if she utilized the full might of the Madosa Institute, there would still just be one organization, and the scope of what could be looked into would undoubtedly be limited.
Furthermore, it has been known for three years that Lean Forest was home to several ancient structures dispersed across it, some of which were similar to the one where the Black Mystium was found.
Investigating such buildings would thus have a good chance of turning up materials connected to the “Kage-Ochi” phenomenon.
If he could communicate with Lean personally, things would go more swiftly, to be frank. Lean has not been in touch with him, though, as though it would be hazardous to discuss this.
Indeed, Pumpkin felt frustrated that there was no way for him to contact Lean.
But despite that, he knew it was inappropriate to request Uriko contact Lean. He was informed that it would be extremely risky for Uriko to contact anybody other than Lean, and as the elder brother, he couldn’t permit this behavior on the part of his younger sister.
“So what’s the third thing?”
“The third thing is to reinforce my overall strength. In fact, from what I have heard from Izumi, when it comes to combat, substantial capabilities will be needed. This is a must.”
Although Pumpkin said reinforcement of his strength, specifically, the first step was to increase his own magic power.
Following that will be the development of new resonance spells and the upgrading of existing resonance spells.
Besides, according to Izumi, my name is close to a pseudonym, so it’s originally… or rather, to know the name of my former life.
On top of that, the present resonance spells were distinct from the regularly utilized spells in that they did not rely on canes or other supporting objects. There were undoubtedly instruments that might enhance resonance spells, as was the case with the cane that Lean gave to Pumpkin during the combat against the arm of the God of Destruction, thus developing such a tool to enhance one’s skills would be a viable option.
“I see. By the way, do you have any idea what those tools are?”
“Currently, I am thinking of creating a staff with Black Mystium as its core but…”
At this point, Pumpkin involuntarily hesitated to say anything about the continuation of the story.
After all…
“Oh, that reminds me, you haven’t found the right material to balance it out since three years ago, right?”
“Yeah.”
As Mizuki said, it was because they had not been able to obtain the material that would be able to balance with the Black Mystium.
Sigh… this material really is too difficult to find.
