- Chapter 65 - Pumpkin and Tax Collector (1)
Translator: MadHatter Editor: MadHatter
Throughout the winter, experiments and the development of a new resonance spell were carried out, and before Pumpkin realized it, the snow had begun to melt and spring was approaching.
So, the Samsara Egg Village as a whole was constructing new buildings, commencing preparations for farming, and improving equipment to protect against hibernating boars and bears, but there was also something else pressing that Pumpkin needed to do for the village.
“Are you Pumpkin-dono?”
“You are the tax collector?”
At present, he was meeting a birdman in Maunpir Village.
“That’s right. My name is Tax Whiteeye, and I have been assigned by Count Kunuki to look into Samsara Egg Village. Oh, I have a title of baron, but I am a nobleman in name only, so please don’t be concerned about it.”
“I see. I’m Pumpkin, the village chief of Samsara Egg Village, and I’m looking forward to working with you. Please look after things for me from now on.”
Tax Whiteeye was the name of the man with yellow-green wings on his back and a rapier for self-defense; possibly because he valued ease of movement, his clothing was more functional than fashionable.
“Then, can you guide me to your village?”
“Oh, leave it to me.”
And so Pumpkin took Tax to Samsara Egg Village in the sky.
Despite the name “birdman,” their wings were used for heat retention, not for flying. At best, they can only glide down.
So when Pumpkin took him to the village, Tax let out a nice scream, which was very pleasant to listen to.
“Hah hah… couldn’t you have flown a little slower?”
“Well, I didn’t want to leave the village unoccupied this time of year because of the magical beasts that live in the forest…”
“I see…”
When they arrived at the village safely, Pumpkin landed with an excuse.
“Patriach.”
“Hmm? Reigi, is that you? What’s wrong?”
“Oh, this is…”
And this was when Reigi came over and started talking to him.
Tax saw Reigi and nodded looking at something like a document, but Pumpkin was sure he was checking to see if the information was correct.
What was more important was that even though Reigi knew that Pumpkin would be spending the rest of the day guiding Tax, she was still speaking to him.
Bsed on Reigi’s personality… yeah. Something must have happened.
“A boar came just now. It destroyed the fence.”
“Ah, I get it.”
Reigi pointed to the wreckage of the fence surrounding the village, the ongoing dismantling of the boar, and the Spalpkins and their Hunting Bees working on the related tasks.
“Since this is a good opportunity, would you like to hold a festival?”
“I guess so. We should hold a successful hibernation festival to celebrate Tax-san’s arrival.”
And so Pumpkin gave them permission to hold a festival…
“The permission is granted?!”
“Yay?!”
”Let’s make noise?!”
“Let’s drink?!”
“Let’s sing?!”
“Let’s do whatever we want to do?!!”
[[[Bunbububunbun!!]]]
With Reigi’s words, everyone sprang to life at once.
Oh yeah. During the winter, they couldn’t make much of a fuss about it. I suppose that the exasperation they felt was coming out of them.
By the way, if anyone turned to Tax at this point, they would see…
“Um… the Clawing Boar had just arrived… and they’re being hunted… and how did a nest of Hunting Bees end up in the village…? Huh? Huh?”
…he was frozen in track.
It may have been a bit of a stimulating sight for a first-timer who had only heard about a species called Spalpkin.
But the fact that Tax could watch the dismantling of a boar without any problem was a positive sign.
To be frank, this level of sightseeing was an everyday occurrence in this village.
Besides, if he would freeze up at this level, he wouldn’t go out of the village and risk his life without a second thought.
If anything should happen to him, I’ll be held responsible.
“Well, that’s the thing. I’m still in the process of making it, but I’ll explain one by one.”
“Oh, yes. Please do.”
So Pumpkin took Tax with him and they started to go around Samsara Egg Village where Spalpkin and the others were preparing for the festival.
Furthermore, Pumpkin had already told Spalpkin the general idea of what the festival would be like, so there would be some chaos, but there was no need for him to be concerned.
Incidentally, something similar to a xylophone and something similar to a drum has already begun to be made. Pumpkin didn’t remember teaching them how to make them, so it must be Lean’s wisdom.
“How should I put it, I feel like I’ve come to an uncivilized land…”
“I don’t think you’re wrong about that.”
So, after showing him all the things that could be shown, Tax said something like that, and Pumpkin thought that was true, so he replied in agreement.
And then…
“Anyway, that’s it. [Don’t get trapped by common sense.]”
…a voice was heard.
A small voice was heard saying, [Keep this in mind], so Lean must have agreed with him definitely.

T/N:
A lot of details are omitted around the last part but since so far, only Lean is the one who communicated with Pumpkin using [], I think it is Lean that is speaking.
