“Well, this is it.”
After parting with the king, Pumpkin was in the castle’s basement, a spot so isolated that he would have missed it if he hadn’t heard about it beforehand, standing in front of a profound atmospheric door.
Even if someone cannot see the magic power like Spalpkin, the door was sealed with a massive amount of magic power that could be sensed, and if the proper procedure was not applied, the door would probably never be opened.
“Well, not that I can use that right method though.”
Pumpkin had no control over the process, though, since the proper procedure, according to the king, required a person within the second degree of relationship with the current king in the form of a blood relative who will allow the door to voluntarily recognize their magic power and blood.
The necessity to be in the second degree of relationship was the reason Pumpkin had to comply with other options, but there was another factor at play: Pumpkin’s body didn’t have any blood flow to begin with.
“Well, I guess I’ll have to wait a while.”
Therefore, while reinforcing himself to counter the door defense mechanism that would be activated if he tried to forcibly open the door, he left one of the soldiers guarding the door in a wrapped-up position, disposed of the rest by sucking blood, replenished his magic, and waited for the signal to come.
Not only was the door’s defense mechanism an offensive one that would eliminate hostiles, but also one that would wake up the soldiers inside the castle and then summon them to action.
Pumpkin would wait until the signal came since if he tried to open the door before the king and the others escaped, their evacuation might encounter complications.
Bu??????
“Ugh!? Ko… ga…”
“Yeah. The signal has come.”
The signal was that after the king and others escaped, by destroying a part of the defensive magic covering Senkonoto, Pumpkin would deactivate the [Resonance Concerto Spell?Good Night Day] he had released and wake up the soldiers.
In fact, Pumpkin didn’t even need to keep the last soldier by his side alive to confirm it because the alarm sounded to him as it typically would.
“Now then, shall I muster up the spirit and get going?”
After the soldiers he had left behind had all been eliminated, Pumpkin put one arm around him to assess his condition and increased the flow of magic power into his body.
“Hmph!”
He forced his hand into the gap of the door.
After that, magic bullets were fired at Pumpkin from all directions as the door was heated by defensive magic that was embedded into it.
“Make it work!”
Pumpkin, notwithstanding, forcibly brushed it aside and interfered physically with the magic that sealed the door with his physical strength and magic by his magic power, overpowering that defensive magic with brute force by using the strengthening magic he had applied to his entire body at a higher level than when he had battled the Entdragon.
“Hmph!”
The magic that sealed the door and the magic for interception eventually reached their limits as he continued to exert force, and as soon as those magic were destroyed, the heavy door was opened as the excess magic power was randomly converted into fundamental magic.
“Whew. I thought it would be a little easier to break through, but it was harder than my expectations.”
Pumpkin examined the rear of the door and then inspected his physical state.
Apparently, behind the door was a staircase, and that staircase led to a place where the mass of magic power was gathered in the basement.
Even so, the door’s sealing magic was more solid than anticipated.
Pumpkin had figured that it would be somewhat simpler to break, albeit not quite as simple as the defensive magic that protected the city, but he never would have imagined that it could only be broken by fortifying his body to such an extent.
That has to be it. The magic must have been cast by the original imperial court sorcerers or something like that. That would make sense.
“Oh no. I have to hurry.”
He hastily began to descend the staircase when he noticed that the magical mass was wavering in the basement.
