- Chapter 130 - A New Weapon
A New Weapon
“It’s a very clever design. Even when the crossbow is fully assembled, it can be folded by loosening the screw,” Wickharlt commented as he inspected the small metal assembled crossbow made by Drew.
By loosening the screws, the crossbow’s limb could fold to its body. So yeah, I agree it’s a very clever design.
“There’s a drawback though. If you don’t tighten the screw firmly, that part ends up being a bit wobbly. That makes precise aiming difficult.”
Luzel nodded at Wickharlt’s words.
“I’m also worried about its power. I can’t say for sure until I fire a few shots, but I’m a bit worried that this foldable part weakens its strength,” Luzel continued while repeatedly folding and unfolding the crossbow.
“Still, this crossbow is a league ahead of our usual one,” Frein said. It seems he liked the new crossbow.
Though the three’s comments were all different, they were all enthusiastic about the new crossbow. In total, Drew made five prototypes but only two of them were foldable.
As Luzel just mentioned, there was some concern about the foldable crossbow’s power, but after a discussion with Rays-sama, we decided to go with the foldable ones.
“Now, we need to decide on its name,” Rays-sama said, drawing everyone’s attention.
“A name, sir?” Probably representing everyone, I asked.
“Calling it ‘a small, metal foldable crossbow that can be assembled and reassembled’ is way too long.”
“Things like this are usually named after its inventor, right? So how about Drew Crossbow…no, that doesn’t sound good…how about Drew Bow?”
“Nope. You can’t call it that,” Lapilia-sama interjected.
When I asked her why, she said, “Drew doesn’t want her invention to be named after her. I asked her before and she said ‘Absolutely not!’ “
“How about Rays Bow?”
“I’m not so shameless that I will use my name for something that I didn’t help to create. Roa, how about using your name? Crossbow is your idea.”
“It might be my idea, but this…is already a completely different weapon than the crossbow I know.”
“Judiano, Hornet, how about using your name? You two are more than qualified to call yourself its inventor.”
When Rays-sama turned to the two of them, Judiano cried out, “Hyaaa!” and shook her head so fast that I started to worry her neck might get hurt.
Hornet also shook his head and made a sour expression. So it’s a no too.
“Then, any other good suggestions? Judiano, Hornet, you two suggest something, anything.”
Rays-sama’s unreasonable request left the two of them frozen with a tense expression.
“Ummm….Excuse me…” After a moment, Judiano started to speak with a small voice.
“Judiano, any good ideas?”
Judiano seemed to be afraid of Rays-sama’s gaze, so she shut her eyes and shouted, “How about 10 Knights Bow?”
“10 Knights Bow?”
“Y–Yes! The 10th Division had a significant influence on its development, and they were also the ones currently using it. Plus, when assembled the bow kinda looks like a cross so 10 Knights Bow!”
(T/N: in Japanese Kanji, the number 10 is written ? it does look like a cross.)
Because there was silence for a moment, Judiano seemed to take it as a rejection of her idea and began to say things like, “I’m sorry! It’s a bad idea! I’ll apologize by dying!”
…Don’t apologize for something like that with your life!
“No, Judiano, I didn’t mean to say your idea is bad. It’s the opposite actually, I think that name is pretty good.”
“Yeah. That’s simple enough,”Grantz-sama said
No one disagreed with that name.
As everyone was getting excited about the new name of the weapon, a senior court official, O’hook-san entered the room.
“My apologies for disturbing. I came after hearing that you all are gathered here. I’ve brought some news. May I have your time?”
“Is it fine for everyone here to hear?”
“It is, Rays-sama”
“Then, let’s hear it.”
“The construction of the road that connects the capital with Gedland had been completed.”
At O’hook-san’s news, words like ‘Ooh!’ or ‘Finally!’ filled the room. I was also happy with the news.
The real reason I’ve been pushing for the construction of that road by using my achievement in the canned food project was only one. It was so that the 3rd Division could quickly send reinforcement to the capital.
It was the 3rd Division that resisted against Rudek’s destruction until the very end. If I could create a situation where such 3rd Division could reach the capital quickly, I might be able to change the future.
Thanks to Rufa, I currently have a pretty good relationship with Zackhart-sama, the Commander of the 3rd Division. If we came to the situation where we were trapped in the capital, the chance that the 3rd Division would send reinforcements was high. With this, I had another card to fight with the 1st Division.
“The Commander of the 3rd Division had requested the King to hold an opening ceremony for the new road. He had also requested the 10th Division to be the King’s guard at that ceremony.”
I probably wasn’t the only person who thought Zackhart-sama’s so-called request was just an excuse to meet Rufa.
“Ok. Let’s hear the details. Drew, I’ll come again later,” Rays-sama said as he left the room and we followed him.

When Drew’s room finally returned to its usual tranquility Judiano and Hornet let out a relieved sigh.
“Seriously, those people are like a storm. The pressure facing them is crazy,” Hornet muttered.
Next to him, Drew burped. It seemed like finally, she had enough soup.
Drew rubbed her stomach statistically and looked around, confused.
“Huh? Everyone already left?”
“You just noticed it? Seriously?” Hornet asked in disbelief.
Drew turned her gaze to ‘it’ that was covered in a white cloth and took up quite a bit of space in a corner of the pile of junk.
Then, she thought for a moment.
After thinking for a bit, Drew decided that it was okay and began to doze off in her chair.
