- Chapter 140 - Request Letter
Request Letter
A few days after I became Prince Zeland’s direct vassal.
As usual, Prince Zeland came to my room every now and then, smiling even though Rufa was a bit indifferent toward him.
One of the few small changes that came with my new position was that I was appointed Prince Zeland’s military tutor and the Prince also began participating in the Roa Brigade’s military council.
By the way, if Rays-sama allowed it, the Prince could also participate in the 10th Division’s military council.
This time, I was summoned by Rays-sama and Prince Zeland also came with me. Not only Prince Zeland, but Rays-sama also told me to bring the core members of the Roa Brigade so Wickharlt, Luzel, Frein, Diku, and Rufa were also with us.
Ah. and also Nelfia. She, for some reason, also visited my room today so she asked us to bring her along.
The place Rays-sama called us to wasn’t his room like usual, but the 10th Division strategy meeting us, the place Rays-sama called me to back at Eren Village’s incident. Other than us, the other captains of the 10th Division were also here.
“Thank you for gathering here, everyone.”
When Rays-sama solemnly spoke, the air became tense.
“First, I want you to see this.”
As he spoke, Rays-sama took out four letters
“These are..?” Bekrad-san, the most senior amongst the 10th Division’s captains, asked.
“These are requests for joint training.”
Among the four letters, one of them was very thick. It must be a letter from Bekstadt-sama, the 5th Division’s Commander. As for the other three letters, I wonder who sent them.
“All four are requests for joint training?”
“Yes. These are letters from the 3rd Division, 4th Division, 5th Division, and 7th Division. We also received a verbal request from the 6th Division.”
“From 5 different divisions!”
Everyone looked astonished. For this number of divisions to all requested us, it was abnormal.
“But the letters from the 3rd and 4th Division were more like a personal letter rather than an official request, while the letter from the 4th Division wasn’t even sent by their Commander.”
The sender of the letter from the 4th Division must be the twins, I’ve got no doubt about it. As for the 3rd Division, I think the real reason Zackhart-sama sent it must be because he wanted an excuse to meet Rufa.
“Still… this amount of requests are…quite a lot..” Juno-san muttered.
“Well, I can guess a few reasons why they sent these. First, other divisions are probably interested in the 10 Knights Bow and Crossbow, and also the collapsible long spear that the 10th Division had introduced. After hearing about how we used crossbows in Zetta, the 5th and 7th Division asked if they could also use them.”
I see. After all, they were both divisions that defended a border, so it would be better if they had new weapons.
“Second, the timing. There’s still some time until the snow melts completely, and since neither Gorber nor the Empire hasn’t made any major move, we can afford to use our soldiers for training.”
“It’s true that if we want to have large-scale training, now will be the perfect time,” Bekrad-san nodded deeply.
“And finally, it’s also a perfect chance for the new knights’ first battle.”
Because of the significant damage suffered by the 6th Division at Hakusha, and also damage suffered by the 4th and 10th Division in Zetta, emergency recruitment was carried out to fill the vacancies. That meant the mock battle a.k.a the new knights welcoming ceremony would take place soon.
It seemed that every division had been thinking about how they could train the new knights effectively, which resulted in this amount of joint training requests.
“So, which request will you accept?”
At Bekrad-san’s question, Rays-sama smiled mischievously.
“That’s the reason I had you all gathered here today. I am thinking of using this opportunity to conduct joint training with all divisions that have requested it. What do you all think? Any objection?”
And then he starts to say an outrageous thing.
Rays-sama then explained that all four divisions would probably only bring a maximum of 1000 people. He also said that realistically, they would likely bring just 500 people. That number of people was enough for a mock battle, plus with all four divisions participating in joint training, it would spare us the trouble of explaining the new weapons one by one.
It wasn’t a bad idea.
Everyone seemed to also think like that, so there was no major opposition.
“Won’t the 1st Division also participate?” When Wickharlt asked, the atmosphere in the room became awkward.
“I don’t think they will participate,” Lapilia-sama answered.
“Really?”
“Wickharlt, you may not know this, but the 1st Division dislikes us so I think it’s impossible for them to lower their ego and ask us to teach them.”
“I see…I’m sorry, I didn’t know.”
“Of course, you won’t know. Those two-faced bastards love to pretend they are friendly to outsiders.”
Everyone nodded silently at Lapilia-sama’s words.
It was a moment when I got a glimpse of the feud between the 10th Division and the 1st Division, a few that even I didn’t know existed.
