The Knights’ Joint Training (1) – The Gathering of Troublemakers
First was The 3rd Division led by Zackhart-sama tasked to guard Gedland, they were known for being upright and powerful.
Next was the 4th Division, who fought with me in Kitsar Fortress. They might not be flashy, but the way they fought with their tenacious heavily armored knights was really impressive.
Then there was the 5th Division. I only had a few interactions with them, but they were the division that had fought back the Empire’s invasion so of course, their abilities were no less than other divisions. The leader of the 5th Division, Bekstadt-sama was a man of few words, but the letter he wrote has always had an impressive length.
There was also the 6th Division, a division that I had a very close relationship with. It seemed that their new commander had finally been chosen.
Lasly, there was the 7th Division. They were led by Thor di Solgia-sama, the person who was strong enough to fight the twin in two vs one fight and won.
Of course, there was the host of the joint training, us, the 10th Division.
Although each division had only brought a small number of their knights, this was still the first time that such a large number of knights gathered in one place ever since the start of war with the Empire. Despite the event’s magnitude, the fact I’ve never heard of it in my past life meant that in the history I knew of, this joint training never happened.
This time, the limit of knights that each division could bring was set to be a maximum of 600 people.
This limit was set because of the new knights. The losses that the order suffered after the battle in Hakusha and Zetta were great, but the people’s excitement due to our successive victories in the two battles was even greater, so the number of new knights that had joined the order was greater than the expectation.
So, if each division had 600 knights, the number would be exactly 1,000 if the new knights were included at the time of the joint training.
As a result, there were now a considerable number of knights, including the new knights and knights of the 10th Division who wouldn’t participate in the joint training, gathered at the training ground near the capital.
The leaders of 5 divisions were also here, which made a spectacular sight. If possible, I really would like to exchange places with King Zeurasia who was looking over us from the platform.
By the way, the 4th Division wasn’t led by their commander this time, but rather by Yuizest and Meizest, the Deputy Commander. Boltras-sama did send a letter filled with a string of apology for the problem the twin had caused. I could imagine the hardship that Boltras-sama went through.
(T/N: Yuizest and Meizest position has always been mentioned as more like ‘adjudant’ of Boltras, but since in this chapter it was finally stated that they are the official deputy of the 4th Division, i’ll continue referring them as such)
Also, we did offer the 1st Division to participate in the joint training, but they refused on the ground that they had to protect the capital. Considering their relationship with the 10th Division, I had expected it.
King Zeurasia started to give a long speech about joint training in front of us. Next to him, Prince Zeland stood stiffly. Seeing the Prince so stiff was quite amusing.
But I had to agree that the Prince’s bearing had improved. Even though he was standing next to the King, he didn’t seem out of place.
“The real training will begin tomorrow! I look forward to your hard work!”
At the end of the King’s speech, Zackhart-sama who was also standing next to the King shouted, “Salute!” and we all gave a salute to the King.
The joint training was scheduled to last for the first time.
The itinerary of the first day, which was today, was only a greeting from the King and an introduction. It was scheduled like that in case there was a division that was late. Fortunately, all divisions were able to arrive here as scheduled.
The real training will start tomorrow. Tomorrow’s itinerary was training with the 10 Knights Crossbow and the long spear.
I didn’t have any plans for the rest of the day.
Until yesterday, I’ve been going to places to prepare for the joint training, so today I wanted to go home early and relax, but things didn’t always go as planned.
I’d expected Prince Zeland and Zackhart-sama to approach me to see Rufa after King Zeurasia returned to the palace.
I’d also more or less expected the twins to approach me but I didn’t expect that seeing the twins, Thor-sama would also approach me. The most surprising thing was even Bekstadt-sama approached me.
In short, now around me were the commanders or acting commanders (the twin) of the divisions who came here for the training and also the Prince, which attracted puzzled looks from other knights who didn’t know the circumstance.
They were all people who naturally stood out from the crowd. But they continue to interact with each other without caring about the attention of their surroundings.
Their interaction was certainly interesting to watch from the sideline, but personally I didn’t want to get involved, yet one person approached them.
“I apologize for interrupting your conversation. May I speak with you for a moment?”
That was how Fogart-san joined the conversation.
Among the veteran knights of the 6th Division, he was the only one who wasn’t demoted and he also became the pillar of support of the 6th Division during its reconstruction. Additionally, he was one of the central figures who led the construction of the new roads between the capital and Gedland.
He was also the new Commander of the 6th Division.
When selecting the new commander of 6th Division, initially there was a strong opinion that bringing someone from outside 6th Division would be better, but because of Fogard-san’s achievement of constructing the new road, ultimately he was chosen as the new Commander.
When Fogard-san introduced himself, Thor-sama was first to respond.
“I have heard the news. Fogard-dono, congratulations.”
“Thank you, Thor-dono,” After saying that, Fogard-san glanced briefly at Wickharlt.
In response, Wickharlt took a step forward.
“I’m sorry. Cleaning up after my mess must be hard for you, but I trust you. Congratulations,” Wickharlt said and he offered Fogard-san a handshake, which he took.
After seeing Wickharlt’s reaction, everyone else congratulated Fogard-san for his appointment.
It would be fine if everything ended peacefully like this, but the twin started to cause commotion, not that it was unexpected.
“So, who is the strongest among us?”
“Yeah, who? Which commander?”
Just as I thought they had asked an outrageous thing, they continued with an even bigger mess.
“No, who is the second strongest?”
“I mean, we are clearly the strongest.”
“Hm? Have you forgotten about our battle last time?” Thor-sama provoked them.
“A discussion about who is the strongest will certainly be interesting. Of course that excludes me, otherwise it won’t be a competition.”Zackhart-sama said.
The silent Bekstadt-sama raised one eyebrow.
“Everyone…please calm down,” Fogard-san, the only person who was flustered, spoke while trying to not get caught up in invisible sparks that flew through the air.
