- Chapter 34 - Lucifal
Lucifal
“I think your name…Roa?”
A few days after we talked with Drew. A voice called to me from behind as I walked in the palace with Wickharlt and Rufa.
When I turned around, there stood the Commander of the 1st Division, Lucifal Veras, the person I despised.
Three individuals stood behind Lucifal, staring at us intently. They were most likely Lucifal’s subordinates.
“Lucifal-sama.”
When I bowed to him, Lucifal took a step closer to me and extended his hand.
“I heard about the Hakusha battle! You are truly incredible.”
While I stood there with an embarrassed smile and a nervous face, Lucifal said, “Let’s shake hands.” and waited for my response.
I didn’t want to shake hands with this bastard if I could help it, but drawing his ire right now could be bad for me, so I grudgingly shook his hand, though I pretended to be nervous on the outside.
“Thank you, sir.”
He smiled brightly and expressed satisfaction at my actions.
“Pardon me for saying this, but I was skeptical of you when I first heard that the King was interested in an unknown court official, but now…I see. The King and Rays had a keen eye for talent. I’m pleased to see that our army will have a great general in the future.”
Lucifal, who appeared to be in a good mood, showered me with praises. If I didn’t know the future, I would be overjoyed to hear the hero and most popular general of this kingdom complimenting me, but knowing his true face made me suspicious of his hidden motive.
“I’m so impressed with your talent that I want you in my 1st division! What do you think? Do you want to transfer to the 1st Division? I will welcome you with open arms!”
He offered that to me out of nowhere.
“Pardon!? My apologies, But I…”
“It’s just a joke. Though the part about me will welcom you with an open arm isn’t a joke. But I’m sure Rays would despise me if I push you into joining the 1st Division!” He continued, still cheerful.
“Lucifal-sama. It’s almost time for the messenger from Lifrea to come.”
Following the words of his close aide, Lucifal stated, “Ah, right, it’s about time. I must greet the envoy from our ally, Lifrea. I’d want to chat with you more, but I’m afraid our conversation must come to a stop here.”
Lucifal turned around immediately after saying that.
I didn’t miss the brief instant when his eyes went cold when he looked at us.
“Let’s get going too.”
I said and turned around. Then I felt a chilly glare on my back. I turned around to see a knight glaring at me.
After meeting my gaze, The knight walked away as if nothing happened. That knight looked familiar.
I believe he was…
“He’s looking at me. Please ignore him” Wickharlt said and I nodded.
Now I remember. He was Heanov, a 1st Division knight who was proud of his archery ability.
He wasn’t, however, one of the continent’s 10 Master of Bow. It was easy to understand why he was glaring at Wickharlt, the Blue Bow.
“That guy’s competitive spirit is quite annoying.”
Wickarlt expressed his displeasure. Something must have happened in the past between him and Heanov.
Rufa abruptly grasped the hem of my clothes as we moved. I noticed she was unusually quiet; had anything happened? I looked at her, who was looking down.
“What’s the matter? Do you feel sick?”
“I…I don’t feel comfortable with those people.”
…I felt the same way.
Still, receiving the envoy from the Holy Kingdom Lifrea, huh?
It was logical for them to send a messenger to us because they were now our ally and It was only right that the 1st Division, the King’s guard, would be the ones to welcome them. But I was still uneasy.
The reason our ally, Lifrea Holy Kingdom, attacked us. It was never made clear, even in the future that I knew.
I might be able to do something about it if I understood why they betrayed us. But…finding that reason was difficult. If only the 10th Division was the one tasked to welcome them, I might learn something.
?
The 1st Division’s office.
A slender man in a robe sat in the seat where the room’s owner, Lucifal, was meant to sit.
Lucifal and his entourage were on their knees on the floor, staring up at the man.
“It has been a long time, Lucifal.”
“It certainly is, sir.”
“Is the plan going well?”
“Although there had been some changes, everything was going well overall.”
“…That’s great to hear. For the sake of our plans, you have to work harder for a bit longer. I’ll be relying on you, Lucifal.”
“Such a kind word. It is an honor, sir.”
If there were people who were absolutely unaware of the situation here, they would undoubtedly think of Lucifal as the man’s servant.
?
Diku came running towards us as we returned to the canned food storage area.
“Diku? Why are you running?”
“I’ve been looking for you! Rays-sama has summoned you.”
“Me? Okay, I’ll leave. Rufa, I’ll go first. Please look after the canned food.”
“She can’t”
“Huh?”
“Rays-sama is summoning you and Rufa.”
“Rufa too? I wonder why…”
In any case, the three of us rushed to Rays-sama’s office.

T/N:Surprise! To celebrate Patreon launching and because I got nothing to do until the new term start, I will try releasing 1 chapter/day. Ayway, I’m really curious about who Lucifal is now.
