Drifting Ship Disturbance (6) – The Free-Spirited Princess
“So? What would you like to ask me? Obviously, there are some things I cannot tell you, but I will tell you what I can.”
Luluria said this only a few seconds after we entered the room.
It was reassuring that she was going to cooperate with us, but I was a little surprised that it was so easy. Rufa and the others, judging by their expressions, must have been as astonished as I was.
“Don’t just stand there, take a seat. Oh, you’re sitting next to me! I’d like to look at your handsome face while drinking my tea.”
We followed Wickharlt, who had accepted the lady’s invitation and sat down, although still feeling prexelped. Where did the grace that I sensed just a few seconds earlier go?
“Luluria-sama! Please don’t say something like that!”
“It’s fine! You are all here to obtain information from me, right? This place bores me to death! How long is your kingdom going to keep me in this room?”
So she was frustrated, and that’s why she was speaking like that? No, perhaps that was just her real personality.
“But if you want to get some information from me, I have a condition,” Luluria explained.
“What is your condition?”
Wickharlt, who had sat next to her at her request, inquired.
“My condition is of course…” Luluria said with a smile.
“Of course…?”
I could hear someone gulping.
“Tell me about the delicious food that you can get in this country, no, in this continent!”
…Did I mishear her?
“Are you fine with just something like that?” Rufa asked.
Luluria shook her head and opened her hands wide.
“Something like that, you say?? I traveled all the way to this continent only to be confined here! I know I’m going to be deported soon, so at the very least I want to taste the delicious food available in this continent! So I’ll have to do some research first!”
“But…Even if I tell you everything…I don’t think you can eat them…”
Luluria shook her head in response to Rufa’s remark.
“I’m definitely going to eat them! You’re all going to tell your superiors about what you heard here, right? Tell them this. I, Luluria Fezaris Badusa, will not tell you anything until I have eaten this kingdom’s delicious foods!”
“Milady!”
Luluria appeared to realize she had let her identity slip after her attendant warned her.
“Fezaris…Are you from the Fezaris Kingdom?”
Luluria reacted to Rufa’s question by sticking out her tongue.
(T/N: sticking out her tongue like this: it’s a common gesture in Japanese anime that show the character has made some mistake.)
“A fellow Sarshan will recognize that name, as expected. Dear me, to think I will make such a mistake.”
She laughed when she said this.
“Fezaris? I think I’ve heard that name before…ah, the kingdom where the Strategist Doran came from.”
Luluria’s eyes widened in response to my words. She gently rose to her feet, then examined me from head to toe.
“You don’t look like a Sarshan. Who are you? Why do you know Doran-sama’s name? What is your name? Have you ever visited the southern continent?”
Huh? I swear I introduced myself before, along with Rufa and Wickharlt.
“My name is Roa. I’ve never traveled to the southern continent, but the rumor about Doran-sama has also reached the Rudek Kingdom, that’s how I know about him.”
“That’s a lie. Doran-sama is a great strategist, but the army under his command only won a major battle a month ago. It would have been impossible for the news to reach the northern continent in a month.”
…Shoot. I replied confidently since I knew this was around the period that the Strategist Doran was active, but I forgot to consider that knowledge about him hadn’t reached Rudek at this time.
Well then, what kind of excuse should I give to her…
“I apologize for interrupting your conversation, but Roa-dono is such an excellent military commander that even the 10th Division’s Deputy Commander, Rays-sama, personally invited him to join the 10th Division. He is also the man to whom I have pledged my loyalty to. It stands to reason that his knowledge is as vast as the ocean.”
“You’re exaggerating, Wickharlt…”
“Certainly not, Roa-dono. You know the greeting that is used only among the traveling troupe. I was deeply impressed by the breadth of your knowledge.”
“What? This handsome man pledged his loyalty to you? TO YOU???”
Luluria took another long, deliberate look at me.
…As much as I hate it, I must acknowledge that I didn’t look like a knight.
“Milady…”
Luluria finally opened her mouth when her attendant warned her.
“Oh, that was impolite of me. My apologies, hohoho.”
Her apology didn’t seem sincere…arghh, how did things get so complicated!? Wait, this mjght be my chance?
“I’m more curious about you, Luluria. Why are you going to the Empire?”
“Me? To have a political marriage with a prince of the Empire.”
Shouldn’t that information fall under the category of what you couldn’t tell us?
“Is it okay if you tell us that…?”
Rufa, too, appeared perplexed. Luluria, on the other hand, didn’t seem to care.
“It’s all right. I’m going to be deported and return to my home country.”
What a carefree person.
“Wait. You said you’re going to marry a prince, so you’re…”
“A princess. To be precise, I’m the third Princess of the Fezaris Kingdom. You don’t have to change your attitude toward me or act formal. That kind of thing irritates me.”
Even without saying anything, it was evident that she hated that sort of thing.
“Do you have any other questions for me?”
“Well…You’re a princess, so why do you only have a single attendant?”
“My other attendants, including my guard, were confined in another room by your people, though?”
That makes sense. So they just let Luluria in the room, who plainly appeared important, while locking away the rest of her retinue.
“Anything else?”
I, Rufa, and Wickharlt exchanged glances in response to Luluria’s question.
We got information about her identity and why she wanted to go to the Empire, so any other questions I have…none?
Luluria said, “Then it’s my turn now!” after finding that we had no other questions.
Luluria took a deep breath and declared, “All right! Tell me about this country’s delicious food!”
T/N: I like Luluria. She’s funny.
