The New Knights’ Welcoming Ceremony, The Mock Battle (4) – Roa’s Aim

“My opponents are the Luzel and Frein units. Today’s battle seemed to be exactly as Rays-sama expected.”

While riding her horse, Lapilia said with a smile.

“Lapilia-sama, take a look at that”

Lapilia diverted her focus to the center, where she saw knights from the 6th Division slamming something that appeared to be a long stick to the ground, blocking the Grantz army’s path

“So he made another strange thing…”

It was truly fascinating how that guy kept coming up with unusual things.

“I believe it is best for us to be cautious of that thing.”

Lapilia shook her head in response to the knight’s advice.

“They’re not going to use that on us. If they carry that, their cavalry’s movement will be restricted.”

Luzel unit was a cavalry unit, therefore moving such a long object was too much of a hassle for them. On the other hand, if the opposing side just allowed Frein unit to hold it, Frein unit would end up limiting Luzel unit’s movement.

“Even if they didn’t use it on us, they could have prepared another unusual weapon. Don’t let your guard down!”

“Yes!”

That soldier was a captain who had fought alongside Lapilia for many years, so he didn’t ask any more questions and just stared straight ahead at the two units of Luzel and Frein.

“That’s an interesting weapon,” Sazabi mumbled with an interested face, his gaze drawn to the image of a sasar stick slamming into the Grantz army.

“I wish I had the time to turn them into a proper pike.”

Those were the best I could come up with in three days, but they appeared to be functioning well.

So, will he act in accordance with my expectations…

Grantz-sama’s army in the center, which had been standing there shooting arrows, eventually moved.

They appeared to have determined that shooting arrows was ineffective, so they gradually began to march south.

Grantz-sama, as expected, had already began to notice pike’s weakness. Pike had a significant advantage in attack range, but its mobility was poor.

Pike was heavier than other weapons, so it was hard to use while moving, particularly if you were unfamiliar with it. If your opponent began fighting while moving, the more you tried to chase them while holding a pike, the further you would fall behind.

Our knights, on the other hand, would lose the advantage of distance if they let go of the pike. If that happened, our army would be at the mercy of Grantz-sama’s army.

I knew this would happen sooner or later. Nonetheless, I asked them to buy as much time as possible and to hold out until the very last second.

After all, my aim here was to make Gratz-sama to move his army to the south.

Grantz-sama has one habit when leading an army that stems from his trust in Lapilia-sama.

Grantz-sama would never move his army toward Lapilia-sama’s army.

This was clearly shown in many war records of the 10th Division.

Rays-sama’s most powerful cards were Grantz-sama and Lapilia-sama. Lapilia-sama’s army thrived in a situation where they could move freely, thus in order to secure that ‘freedom’ for Lapilia-sama’s army, Grantz-sama always kept his army at a distance from Lapilia-sama’s army while occasionally making movements that aided Lapilia-sama.

Grantz-sama himself was probably unaware of this small habit.

With this, the first stage of my strategy was complete.

Let’s keep an eye on the situation in the north until Grantz-sama’s army has moved completely to the south.

Luzel and Frein were facing Lapilia-sama’s army in the north, and they appeared to be evenly matched.

I immediately switched my attention to 10th Division’s camp, where Rays-sama was. There appeared to be no significant movement on that side. I carefully examined the number of knights remaining in their camp, and it looked like the number hadn’t decreased.

I shifted my sight back to the south. Grantz-sama’s army had completely moved to the south, while remaining vigilant toward our army in the center.

Now!

“Diku! Send the signal!”

“Ok!”

After Diku raised the flag of the 6th Division, our army in the middle threw down their pikes and charged toward Grantz-sama’s army! The 6th Division, which has traditionally been an offensive division, attacked Grantz-sama’s troops with ferocity.

However, Grantz-sama’s army performed just as I had predicted. Despite being outnumbered, their formation never broke down.

Nonetheless, they were pushed back a little by our army’s advance, and gradually began to move further south.

As a result, a direct path toward Rays-sama in the main camp was opened.

“Fogard-san! Please!”

I yelled at the veteran captain, who bent his head before the mock battle began. I must have been excited without realizing it, and as a result, my shout got pretty loud.

Fogard-san nodded.

“Advance!”

He yelled, and all the knights who remained in my camp began to march toward the route that opened in the center.
