- Chapter 6 - Roa's Strategy
Roa’s Strategy
“Those idiots from Rudek have finally arrived,” said the bearded man calmly.
The man was the person who led the construction of Gorber’s military base at the mine. His name was Givan.
Givan was one of the few soldiers of Gorber Kingdom who was hidden amongst the bandits. His role was to lead the construction of the military base and to lead the bandits to buy some time in case Rudek Kingdom moved their army
If the Rudek Kingdom sent their army here, then the Gorber Kingdom would also send an army on the grounds of ‘protecting their border’
However, the army from Gorber Kingdom would only make their move when the construction in this area was finished, but the construction need a bit more time.
After all, the Gorber Kingdom would not gain anything if they moved their army now.
Although a new mineral vein was discovered in the mine, the amount of ore that could be produced from the new mineral vein was still unknown. This unknown military vein was not enough incentive for the Gorber Kingdom to move their army.
Because of the reckless action of the bandits, Givan knew that sooner or later the Rudek Kingdom would send a subjugation force here. However, from the Rudek Kingdom’s perspective, Givan and his men were only ‘normal bandits’ as such Givan thought that the Rudek Kingdom would make light of them and sent a small force.
The construction of the military base was about 80% complete. Furthermore, Givan had secretly had recruited about 500 people.
With this many people, Givan should be able to buy time until the reinforcement from Gorber Kingdom came if the Rudek Kingdom attacked the mine.
I will send you an army, so buy some time.
Givan remembered Sakuri’s words.
Sakuri’s judgment was the best in Gorber. A military base in this place would definitely become a great foothold for Gorber Kingdom to conquer the Rudek Kingdom, just as Sakuri said.
Givan decided to trust Sakuri and wait for the reinforcement.
Givan has also received instruction to retreat if he encounters any difficulty. The failure of this plan wouldn’t be detrimental to the Gorber Kingdom. After all, even the cost of construction was covered by secretly selling the ores from the newly discovered mineral vein.
But Givan has no intention of retreating easily. It took a long time for the plan to finally came to this point. It would be a shame if Givan gave up on the plan easily. In addition, Givan thought that the success of this plan would pave a way for his glorious future.
After putting up with the irredeemable trash in this filthy land, Givan finally came this far.
Failure was out of question for Givan. First, he plan to make this Eren Village his territory, then he would rise to the top of Gorber Kingdom!
Givan couldn’t help but laugh as he imagined that future. But Givan was immediately pulled back to reality.
“The enemy’s army is here! Their number more than 5000 men and they have stationed themselves in the west!” (Subordinate A)
Hearing his subordinate’s report, Givan was dumbfounded.
“What did you just say?” (Givan)
“The enemy’s number is more than 5000! They had stationed themselves at the west, near the border with Gorber!” (Subordinate A)
“They sent the number of people comparable to a single Knight Order’s division only to subjugate bandits, you say!? That’s impossible! Are you sure you didn’t mistake them for our reinforcement!?” (Givan)
Givan couldn’t believe his ears. Just how much would it cost for the Rudek Kingdom to deploy that many people? The Rudek Kingdom was wealthy, true, but to send that many people…even in the off-chance the Rudek Kingdom was being careful because Eren Village was located near their border with the Gorber Kingdom, that number was still ridiculous!
..No. Givan could think of one possibility on why the Rudek Kingdom sent this many people over a bandit subjugation.
“The plan got leaked…” (Givan)
But from where? Did the incompetent lord reported the plan to the Rudek Kingdom? No, that was impossible. Both the lord and his son has no other choice but to follow Gorber Kingdom’s wishes right now. But if it wasn’t them, who else could have leaked the plan?
“Looking at the flag, it seems like they were led by Rays Stein.” (Subordinate A)
“So It’s him…but why? This area should be under the jurisdiction of the 4th Division, so why is he, the Lieutenant General of the 10th Division, here?” (Givan)
“…I also do not understand, sir, but…”
“Even though we already came this far…No, we haven’t lose yet. we still have 500 people on our side. Let’s preserve until the reinforcement comes!” (Givan)
“Yes, sir. But, what should we do about the lord?” (Subordinate A)
“Abandon him. Rays here mean that our deal with the lord is already exposed. He’s not someone worth protecting. No need to care about what will happen to him.” (Givan)
“Understood,” As the man left to convey Givan’s order, another man came rushing in.
“Givan-sama!! Our men..!!!” (Subordinate B)
“What is it now!?” (Givan)
“Many of our men started to run away after they saw the large army!! We are hopeless to stop them!! Some of the deserter have even attacked the others!!”
?
“Oh, look at that fire,” muttered Grantz who was in the army’s headquarter built on top of a hill a bit distance away from the village.
“Roa’s prediction is right. They started fighting among themselves,” Rays said as he squinted his eyes while watching the smoke that rose in the distance.
Deploy as many soldiers as possible to the west of the abandoned mine.
That was the first part of Roa’s strategy.
As the people in the abandoned mine are mostly bandits, they will immediately try to escape when they see a large army without caring about the Gorber Kingdom’s interest. It would be best for us if all of them escaped, but the fewer the number of people left in the abandoned mine, the easier it will be for us to attack. In addition, deploying the army to the west of the abandoned mine, near the border with the Gorber Kingdom will also send a message to our enemy that we know the fact that the Gorber Kingdom is behind everything.
That was the detail of Roa’s strategy, and it worked. The 10th Division didn’t even take one step out of this headquarter, yet the abandoned mine seemed to be in chaos.
“Call Roa and Frein,” Rays ordered and The messenger immediately left.
It only took a few minutes for the two to arrive in front of Rays.
“Roa, everything went according to your plan. What should we do next?” (Rays)
Roa thought for a moment, then answered, “Isn’t it fine to remain here until all the bandits has escaped?” (Roa)
He’s still naive in this area, Rays thought.
“That’s not enough. Frein.” (Rays)
“Yes,” Frein said while kneeling in front of Rays.
“Go and take control of the abandoned mine.” (Rays)
“Yes, sir.” (Frein)
Frein immediately left the headquarter and Roa was left not knowing what to do as he glanced at Rays and Grantz.
“Roa, you stay here.” (Rays)
“Y…Yes, sir.” (Roa)
After that, Rays told Roa to sit down.
?
Thus, my first expedition ended rather easily.
I only felt relief but without me knowing, my action in this battle caused ripple throughout my surroundings.
