A Not So Small Change
Today, Frein was teaching me how to ride a horse.
“Horses are smart creatures. They can sense when their rider is scared.” (Frein)
“I got that but…” (Roa)
I wasn’t that athletic. Honestly, rather than riding the horse I kinda feel I was just clinging into it.
“Let’s stop here for today. It’s almost lunchtime. If you find a horse you like, make sure to take care of it. A trust between the horse and its rider goes a long way. The feeling of riding a horse that have a deep trust with you is completely different from riding a random horse.” (Frein)
“I got it. Thank you.” (Roa)
Once I got off the horse, I could feel my thigh aching. With Frein laughing at me all the way, we went to the dining hall.
It has been half a month since I returned to Rudektrad, the capital of the Rudek Kingdom. For the past half a month, I’ve been coming and going between my quarter and the 10th Division training ground to learn how to ride a horse.
In short, other than learning how to ride a horse I was free. This was because my official appointment would be after Grantz-sama returned with the official report later, but I have already been told I didn’t need to work by my superior. So I got nothing to do recently.
For a member of the 10th Division to be selected from a civil official was unprecedented, so I think the people in my old workplace also didn’t know what to do.
Even in the official quarter, I was treated like an outcast. Thankfully, both Derick and Yord still treated me like usual.
On the other hand, since I still haven’t become the official member of the 10th Division, I couldn’t help with the work of the 10th Division, so here, I was also treated like an outsider. It was Frein who has been taking care of me here for the past half a month.
Thanks to Frein, I could now barely ride a horse on my own and I could also exchange conversation with other 10th Division captains.
The meal served for the members of 10th Division has one additional side dish and a larger portion compared to the meal served for the official. The meal also has a slightly stronger flavor.
The members of the 10th Division did more exercise and body taxing activity compared to the official, so that was probably why the meal was different.
“But Roa, you’re a pretty slow-learner,” Frein said while biting on his meat.
“I understand the concept of riding the horse in my head, but my body just can’t keep up!” I answered him while sighing.
“That’s exactly what a slow-learner means! In any case, You have to hurry and at least learn to ride a horse! You need at least be skilled enough to escape on horseback in an emergency.”
“I know…I’ll do my best…”
As we enjoyed our meal while making some small talk, the entrance suddenly became noisy.
“What happened?” Frein asks with an alarmed expression. But his expression changed.
“They’re back!” Frein said so, then he quickly stood up and run toward the entrance.
The rest of the members of the 10th Division also started to rush toward the entrance. I took a glance to the uneaten soup at the table first, before belatedly followed Frein.
After I arrived at the crowded entrance, I saw Grantz-sama, who was entrusted to guard the abandoned mine in the plaza outside of the dining hall. Grantz-sama was laughing alongside Frein and the other soldiers who came to greet him
When Rays-sama arrived at the plaza, Grantz-sama and the other soldiers formed a uniformed line. Grant-sama, who was in the center, walked toward Rays-sama and kneeled in front of him.
“The 3000 people you have entrusted to me have all returned with no one missing!” (Grantz)
“Good work! You can tell me the detailed report later, but did Gorber make a move?”
“Yes, around 2000 soldiers from Gorber appeared! But after seeing our numbers, the soldiers from Gorber retreated.”
“I see. I already told the 4th Division to stay vigilant for the time being. Since those b?a?s?t?a?r?d? from Gorber came all the way to our territory to create a military base, it was decided that we will use the result of their hard work to create our own fort!” Rays-sama declared while laughing.
The other soldiers also started to laugh alongside Rays-sama while saying things like, “Those fools!” or “We really have to be grateful to them for making us a fortress!”
It was only after the laughter settled down that Gratnz-sama continued to speak.
“There is one more thing.”
“What is it?”
Grantz-sama took a quick glance at me, then answered “I brought a former miner of the Eren Village into the tunnel dug by the people from Gorber…”
“And then?”
“To think there are still this many minerals remaining in the mine! Or so he said with a really surprised voice when we found a new mineral vein.”
After Grantz-sama said that, everyone’s gaze immediately turned to me. I know this would happen, but I still feel a little relieved.
“….I understand. Let’s talk about the details in the office. Roa! You also come! Everyone, good work! The next few days will be a holiday! A bonus will also be given so go and spend it to your heart’s content for the next few days!”
After Rays-sama finished speaking, the soldiers that had just returned to the palace let out a loud cheer.

In a certain room in the capital of Gorber Kingdom.
An old man was sitting on a well-polished black desk.
On the desk was a map of the eastern side of the Gorber Kingdom, which was also the western side of the Rudek Kingdom. Several pieces were put on top of the map.
“Is that so.”
The old man, who was the person behind the plan to make the abandoned mine in the Eren Village into Gorber Kingdom’s military base seem to not care after hearing the report that the plan has failed.
“There were about 2000-3000 soldiers from the Rudek Kingdom stationed in the abandoned mine. What shall we do?”
“No need to do anything.”
“But…”
“I said, no need to do anything. That place is a good place for us to monitor the Rudek Kingdom’s movement, but it’s not a good place for the Rudek Kingdom to monitor us, so no need to do anything. The Rudek Kingdom is just wasting their money if they want to make that place into their military base,” the old man explained with an eerie laugh.
After that, the old man pick up the piece that was placed on top of the Eren Village on the map then threw that piece into the garbage as if nothing has happened.
“I’ll let Rays Stein have the victory this time.”
Sakuri said so with an expressionless face.

T/N: Hey, Nisarah is here! Sorry for a late update. I’ve just finished an exam. I will start publishing 2-3 chapters/week from now on, around Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday but the posting day might change depending on my schedule. Funfact, Saku in Sakuri mean plan..the author is so straightforward
