Zetta Great War (1) – Kitsar Fortress

A crescent moon was embroidered with golden thread on a dark blue flag. The silhouette of a white swallow was also there, created as if it was passing through the crescent moon.

“Crescent moon and swallow, huh? It’s an unusual combination but it didn’t look half-bad.”

“It looked pretty good.”

Both Luzel and Frein seemed to like the finished flag. I was glad.

“Oh, wow, it looks great.”

“Agree. It looks cool.”

But why were you both here, Lapilia-sama? Prince Zeland? You two sure have too much time on your hands.

For the past three days, Prince Zeland has been coming here every day, so both Luzel and Frein were pretty much used to his presence, so they stopped caring.

As for me, well, I was busy with the war preparation so I also didn’t care if the Prince was here or not as long as he didn’t get in the way of my job.

Lapilia-sama came here because apparently she had some free time after finishing her preparation and heard from Rufa that our flag was finished.

In any case, the flag for the Roa Brigade had safely been created and our preparation for the departure had also finished so it was about time for us to go to the fortress.

Some units of the 10th Division have already departed. Their job was to prepare their designated fortress in case Gorber decided to make a move.

For us, the Roa Brigade, we would be heading straight to Kitsar Fortress. The journey to the fortress would take us several days even with horses.

“I wish you good luck.” (Zeland)

“Rufa, be careful on your way.” (Lapilia)

We, or rather, mainly Rufa exchanged farewells with the two people who came to see us off.

Then, while bringing the crescent moon and swallow flag with us, we departed from Rudektrad in a high spirit.

If I had to describe Boltras-sama, the commander of the 4th Division with one word, it would be ‘steady’. Compared to other Commanders, he was rather plain. The 4th Division under his command was the type of division that just silently carried out their job.

That was why in my previous life they made the mistake of sending too few people to exterminate bandits in the Eren Village, causing the knights to be chased out of the village by the bandits.

But it would be a mistake to evaluate the capability of the 4th Division based on this one incident alone. The 4th Division’s characteristic was their heavily armed soldiers.

In a war, they were akin to a thick iron wall.

In my past life, it was only thanks to the 4th Division’s powerful defensive capability that Kitsar Fortress managed to hold on until the 10th Division’s arrival.

The reason why I rate the 4th Division’s defensive capability highly was because they were able to take on 30.000 Gorberian soldiers at the Zetta Plain until the reinforcements arrived back then.

The 4th Division also has two famous commanders similar to Lapilia-sama and Grantz-sama of the 10th Division. Their names were Yuizest and Meizest, nicknamed the Two Swords. They were twins, which was rare in Rudek.

They fought on the battlefield with their flawless coordination. They would bring a detached squad to attack the enemy, disturbing the enemy’s formation. The disorientated enemy would then be defeated by the 4th Division’s ‘iron wall’. That was the fighting style of the 4th Division.

(T/N: Iron wall here is referring to the 4th Division’s main army)

What awaited us was the Zetta Great War, so of course I knew I had to be prepared. Still, I couldn’t help but be excited by the prospect of meeting with the famous twin commanders.

What kind of people were they?

What would their coordinated fighting style look like?

“Roa, you look excited. You might fall off from the horse if you kept spacing out. Be careful.” Rufa, who rode Aro with me, warned me.

I shook my head to chase away my thoughts then concentrated on riding Aro.

After a few days of riding horses, we safely arrived at Kitsar Fortress.

Since I already contacted them in advance, a soldier came to greet us at the gate.

“Are you the Roa Brigade of the 10th Division? Could you please show me proof of your identity?”

I gave them my badge, which only the members of the order had.

“Thank you. Welcome to Kitsar,” The soldier said as he welcomed us in.

Kitsar was a large fortress, but its structure was simple.

Many civilians lived in Lieze Fortress. These civilians run various shops and bars for the soldiers in the fortress to enjoy.

Some civilians also lived in the smaller Yufe Fortress and opened small shops there.

But Kitsar didn’t have any shops or any colorful-looking buildings.

There were only similar-looking white buildings lined up orderly here.

Ah, wait, once I looked closely, there were some small shops but it looked like bars didn’t exist here.

“What’s wrong?” Frein asked me, who was looking around the fortress.

I honestly told him my impression of this fortress.

“Oh. That’s because no civilians live here,” Frein explained.

Kitsar Fortress was located near the Zetta Plain, thus, any battle that happened in the fortress would definitely be a huge battle.

That was why Kitsar Fortress was dangerous so no civilians lived here. People who do business at this fortress would come from surrounding towns and villages, rather than living in the fortress.

“This fortress was almost taken by Gorber once in the past, and after that, a big fire broke out. That’s why the fortress’s structure is simple.”

“I see…”

I’ve read about the Kitsar Fortress almost being taken by Gorber in the book. That happened back in the early days of Gorber’s invasion

As we kept walking, we finally arrived in a big building located at the center of the Fortress.

“The building on the right side has been prepared for your brigade. The stables for your horses have also been prepared so feel free to use them.”

“Thank you. I and a few other people will greet Boltras-sama while my soldiers will go to the building and rest.”

“Understood. Then, please tie your horses over there and follow me.”

We were then led by the soldier into the center building. The inside of the building was pretty plain. It didn’t take long for us to arrive in front of a room, which I assume was Boltras-sama’s room.

“Excuse me. I have brought people from the Roa Brigade of the 10th Division.”

After the soldier opened the door, a plain middle-aged man stood up and walked toward us. The man was accompanied by two women, probably his secretaries. Was he Boltras-sama?

“Hello, it’s a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for coming this far.”

“The pleasure is mine. Thank you for your warm welcome.”

“Let’s talk about the details later. First, how about you sit down and take some rest? Ah, let me introduce them to you. Though you might have heard them before, they are my two lieutenants, Yuizest and Meizest.”

He said as he introduced the two secretari…wait a minute, they weren’t secretaries?

“It’s a pleasure-”

“-To meet you.”

The tall and beautiful sisters bowed toward me in perfect harmony.
