Zetta Great War (3) – an Unexpected Visitor

A few days have passed since we arrived at Kitsar Fortress. 

“She’s being chased again,” Frein pointed at Rufa being chased by the twin knights. 

“I guess…they really liked her?” Luzel commented in disbelief. 

For some reason, the Yuimei twins became more excited when Rufa was screaming. They were like a cat that was playing around with its prey. 

Since Rufa was Zackhart-sama’s adopted daughter, the members of the 4th Division also chased the twins in an attempt to stop them from chasing Rufa, but the twin used their perfect coordination to avoid being caught. The sight of Rufa being chased by the twin who were also being chased by a row of people from the 4th Division was quite something. 

After a while, the members of the 4th Division finally gave up. 

After learning that Rufa was our war maiden, the older soldiers looked at the scene of the chase with a warm smile, while the younger soldiers looked at the chase with interest. 

An older soldier told me that a war maiden’s role was more of easing the soldiers’ nerves with their various antics, rather than an actual religious symbol.

After all, who wouldn’t feel relaxed when they saw a child playing happily? 

I knew how mentally draining a battlefield could be. It seemed like people of the past had a quite rational reason for bringing a war maiden with them. 

I doubt Yuimei was chasing Rufa with that kind of intention though. 

By the way, funnily enough, everyone in the 4th Division always got confused about who I was talking about when I referred to the twins with ‘Yuizest-san’ and ‘Meizest-san’, even though that was their real name. Plus the Yumei also didn’t care about honorifics so I ended up calling them Yuimei just like the others.

In any case, it was a good thing that the mood of people in the fortress improved thanks to Rufa. That was why, sorry but Rufa, please keep being chased by the twin for a while. 

…Though, I kept wondering how the twins had enough free time to chase Rufa around. What about the preparation for the war? I kept seeing Boltras-sama, the 4th Division’s commander, running around the fortress making various preparations but…wasn’t that supposed to be the role of his adjudant or aide? 

Well, I guess I have no right to butt in how other divisions were doing their job. 

There were a total of 5000 members of the 4th Division staying at this fortress. There were also 3000 members of the 4th Division staying at the fortress in Eren Village. That meant the entire 4th Division was deployed.

Since the Kitsar Fortress was the frontline of the battle against Gorber, the fortress had this many soldiers stationed in it at all times. Currently, there were also 1800 soldiers of the Roa Brigade in the fortress.

So in total, the number of soldiers currently in the Kitsar Fortress was a bit less than 7000. The preparation needed to go to a war with this many soldiers was immense. It was no wonder Boltras-sama was so busy. 

By the way, the total number of soldiers in the 10th Division exceeded 10.000. The 10th Division has the most number of soldiers among all divisions. On the other hand, the 2nd Division, which was made up entirely of elite cavalry, had the smallest number of soldiers, totaling only just over 4000 men. 

The 4th and 5th Division who were dispatched to fight against the Gorber’s and the Empire’s invasion respectively and the 1st Division who protected the capital had about 8000 soldiers. This number was the second biggest number of soldiers after the 10th Division. The other division has about 5000-6000 soldiers.

The current 6th Division was a bit of a special case. Because the division itself was in the process of being rebuilt, many of its members were currently dispatched to help other divisions so the current 6th Division only has about 4000 soldiers.

Just by looking at the number of soldiers it had, the importance of the 10th Division was clear. Therefore, the 10th Division has a duty to participate in every big battle.

My aim for this battle was to minimize the casualties so that we could prepare for the battle against the 1st Division.

“Roa! Don’t just watch! Help me.”

The moment I turned to Diku, I heard a woman scream. It wasn’t Rufa. I hurriedly turned in the direction of the voice and found that the voice belonged to Yuimei. 

“WHY ARE YOU HERE!” 

“NO! STAY AWAY FROM ME!” 

The two of them who were running away from a person who was riding a horse were as noisy as when they were chasing Rufa. 

But…Why was he here? 

“Hogg-san?” 

“My~ Roa-chan! Surprise! ” 

Surprise? That’s not the problem here! 

“The 2nd Division was ordered to stand by and wait in case a war broke out, so why are you here?” 

“It’s fine~~ My division can function well even without me~”

So you meant to say the 2nd Division didn’t need their commander or something!? 

“Your reaction is so bland~! I came all the way here with a message from Rays, you know~” 

“A message from Rays-sama?” 

“Yup! I’ve received a message that the main army of the 10th Division will be arriving a tiny bit late, that’s why I came all the way here to inform you~” 

“The 2nd Division commander himself came here to relay a message? Why?” 

“Well, staying still isn’t my nature~ Plus, I miss playing with Yuimei~” 

“I refuse to play with you!” 

“Screw off!” 

Yuimei tried to drive Nidhogg-san away in perfect harmony. 

“My dear, That’s not how you should act toward your master~” 

Hogg-san said while slowly approaching the twin. 

“Go away!” 

“Yui! Let’s escape!” 

As Yuimei escaped, Hogg-san chased them on his horse while shouting, “Don’t escape~” 

Thus the three of them disappeared like the wind. 

“What just happened?” Frein said confusedly. 

“Huh? Roa, did you just call him Hogg-san? Is he Nidhogg-sama? But why is he like that?” The bewildered Luzel asked.

Ah right. These two didn’t know Hogg-san’s real personality. 

“Let’s just continue preparing for the war. I’ll explain later.” 

I said, forcing the conversation to end.
