T/N: Double chapter today because nothing essentially happened in this chapter. I feel bad just posting this one chapter
Chapter 7-6
Alicia was relaxing in the room Jude assigned to her. Though, the former couldn’t help but think about the latter, who had stubbornly tried to refuse her request.
If you place me as the head, the project will fail without a doubt.
He left her inside the guest room after saying those words. He was probably referring to the fact that he was socially isolated from the rest of the kingdom’s nobles rather than his dislike of socializing with them.
It was true that several nobles, including Dreyfus, the head of the Regional Council, detested Jude and branded him as the heretic who always refused to show up at social gatherings and only ever interacted with merchants.
Other than that, the conservative faction of the Privy Council, who were mostly in control of the Council, had warned him on several occasions to respect his ties with the nobles more because was disturbing the orders among the nobility.
“I wonder why Lord Jude is so reluctant to interact with other nobles?”
“Who knows…”
The two maids looked at each other in confusion. At that moment, Alicia realized something and suddenly jumped to her feet.
“I’m going to take a short walk around the house. You two, go ahead and rest first.”
“Huh? But, Princess, it’s already this late, you know?”
It isn’t actually that late, you know? You two love to overreact, don’t you? Alicia laughed at her two overprotective maids.
“The blue sea that I saw from the guest room was beautiful. I’ve never seen anything like that before, so, I’m curious to see how will it look like at night. Can I? Pleeease?”
Falling for her cuteness, the two maids nodded to Alicia, albeit reluctantly.
Though Annie insisted to come along to ensure Alicia’s safety, the latter turned down her goodwill politely. She explained that she was only going to wander around inside the mansion, no danger would ever befall her since the mansion had the best security in the whole town. Besides, she also wished to be alone to gather her thoughts, so, bringing Annie alone would completely defeat her purpose.
After that, the Princess slipped out of the room and quickly went to the guest room where she previously discussed the proposal earlier.
* * *
Just quietly looking at the sea.
That was Alicia’s original plan when she decided to come to this place.
“Alicia-sama?!”
“Ah, it’s the Princess!”
But, her plan was doomed to fail since there were people inside the guest room. Three of them in exact.
“Clovis? Also hello Lord Jude, Robert.”
The first person to react to Alicia’s presence was, of course, her aide, Clovis. The young man quickly got up from the sofa and knelt down in front of the former.
“Pardon me! For the Princess to see our unsightly appearance like this…!”
“Huh? Un…sightly…?”
“Hey hey, what do you mean unsightly? We are just hanging out like normal adults here.”
Behind the aide, Robert raised his glass while shaking it, creating some crunchy noise from the ice hitting each other inside the glass. Clovis, who was still kneeling immediately shot him a sharp gaze.
“Alicia-sama is a noble lady! It’s a blasphemy to expose her to a bunch of drunkards!”
“Woah woah, calm down! Firstly, look at our eyes clearly! No one here is drunk!”
Just as Robert stated, the three of them looked exactly the same as they had during the daytime, not even a slight trace of intoxication could be found in their eyes. Realizing this, the aide finally regained his composure as his face turned red in shame.
“Good evening, Princess Alicia. I was the one who invited them, I thought you wouldn’t mind if we were to spend a night relaxing like this… You wouldn’t mind, right?”
Like Robert, Jude tilted his glass and put a troubled smile on his face. Even with that troubled smile though, his dimples still made him look charming. Sitting across from him, Robert shrugged his shoulders.
“This guy originally refused the lord’s invitation, so I had to drag him here with me. Afterward, he didn’t even try to take a sip on the wine, even though it’s the wine that the Marquis of Rozen proud of, and the man himself even went through the trouble to serve us… What a waste.”
“My, really?”
Indeed, there was an untouched wine glass sitting right in front of the seat where Clovis previously sat on. Alicia blinked as she stared at her aide who was still kneeling in front of her.
“Why are you holding yourself back? Oh, maybe you can’t drink alcohol?”
“No, it’s not that…”
“He can drink alcohol just fine, we’ve been together for 2 years already, I know he can do it. It’s just he’s being overly serious again, the no drinking while on duty thing, Princess.”
It was the silver-haired knight who answered her question instead of Clovis, who immediately averted his gaze. Seeing from his reaction, surely the knight was telling her the truth. Alicia giggled in amusement at her aide’s reaction.
“Don’t worry about it too much, okay? If you don’t relax for a bit, you’ll wear yourself out.”
“…Yes…”
“Alright. I’m glad that Clo-kun can taste our wine, our pride and joy!”
There was a bottle filled with amber-colored liquid sitting beside the young lord. The crest of the Marquis of Rozen was painted on the label of the bottle, indicating that inside the bottle was the wine they had been talking about.
“May I join everyone here? …Also, don’t look at me like that, Clovis. I’m not going to drink, so relax, okay?”
The aide’s face stiffened up after he heard the Princess’ words, which the Princess immediately made a follow-up to reassure her overprotective aide, while the other two men gladly welcomed her to their gathering. Alicia then sat down next to Clovis.
Jude immediately called for the Nicole Family’s maids and instructed them to prepare some tea for Alicia. Feeling bad that she added more work for them to do, Alicia accepted the warm tea while showing her gratitude towards the maid.
