Chapter 9-1 – The Sutherland’s Father and Son
—A few days ago.
.
“Damn it!”
A large door was being opened forcefully, making a loud, rough sound. Hearing that, the Sutherland Family’s servants rushed over from inside the room to see what was going on, only to find Riddhe, the eldest son of the Sutherland, wearing a terrible face.
The place was Sutherland’s private estate that was located in the capital. This estate was built so that the Sutherland would be able to attend to the royal family at a moment’s notice if something were about to happen, like, for example, the upcoming Privy Council meeting.
The servants who were stationed inside the estate at that moment were the cream of the crop, the best personnel brought from the Duke’s house, but even they didn’t want to deal with the irritated Riddhe. After they looked at each other for a moment, a young man stepped forward.
“Welcome back, young master. Is there something wrong?”
“Seriously! Nothing going well!”
The young man, Albert, who called out to Riddhe, was one of the few servants that Ridde was comfortable to be around with. His father had been serving the Sutherland as a butler for a long time, and Albert himself was familiar with the Sutherland since he was a kid.
Riddhe ran up to the stairs after shoving both his robe and cane to Albert. His complaining didn’t cease as the servant hurriedly followed behind him.
“Hear me out, Al! It seems like Princess Alicia contacted another member of the Privy Council! I saw the royal carriage was stopping in front of the Ridley Family’s house!”
“Oh, my.”
Riddhe violently sat down on a chair inside his room. He then unbutton a few buttons off his shirt and relaxed his tense muscle, before grabbing a handful of his own hair to express his vexation.
The Princess, Alicia Chester. Although she was well behaved back then, her body was all stiff from all the pressure that the members of the Privy Council exuded during the meeting. When his father, Lloyd openly denounced her, while she hadn’t looked away, her complexion turned quite pale.
It was clear that the girl was weakened, it would be easy for Riddhe to win over her, that was why he contacted Alicia right after the meeting was over. Yet, that Cromwell interrupted him and foiled his plans. So, he was stuck in this situation.
“Aaaaghhh! I’m so mad!!”
Riddhe pulled his hair as he shouted.
“Why are we being treated like villains?! Just who does she think has been serving and supporting the royal family for generations?!”
“Now, now, Riddhe-sama, your hair will be damaged at this rate.”
Albert seemed to be used to Riddhe’s unstable temperament as the latter once again burst in anger as he remembered the time when Clovis pushed him away.
“I’ll have the maids prepare some tea for you, Riddhe-sama. In the meantime, please take a quick rest.”
Albert smiled and turned back to leave the room. At that moment, Riddhe suddenly remembered something as he called out to the servant’s back.
“Oh right, is someone currently visiting father?”
There was a reason why Riddhe asked that question. Just before he entered the mansion, he happened to see a carriage parked in a more secluded part of the mansion, as if it was hiding from plain sight.
The carriage’s design was something that he had seen often, but he had never seen the owner of the carriage, as the person in question always came whenever Riddhe was away and went back as soon as Riddhe came back home.
“Currently both I and father are busy with the trading company matter. I don’t know who that person is, but visiting him at a time like this? Is he insane?”
In fact, Riddhe just got back from persuading the other members of the Privy Council to not be swayed by the Princess’ faction. The reason why his mood was especially bad today was that his last visit, Marquis of Harber, didn’t yield to his persuasion until the very end.
Anyway, Riddhe was just asking that question casually, but the fact that Riddhe asked at all caught the servant off guard as he unnaturally stopped his steps.
…Huh?
For the first time, Riddhe wondered about the identity of the visitor who regularly visited his father, but he never met before. His father was a duke, so, it was normal for him to meet all sorts of people, that was why Riddhe never paid any attention to his visitors before, but, was it really a coincidence that this visitor always came whenever Riddhe was away?
“Hey, Al, do you know who father’s guest is?”
Even though Albert accompanied Riddhe often, he might have previously seen the visitor’s face. The young servant turned his body around and shook his head with a troubled smile on his face.
“Well, I wouldn’t know about it since it directly concerns the master himself, but if young master really wants to know about it, you can just ask him yourself, no?”
“Right…”
When his young master snorted in annoyance, Albert bowed, turned around, and left the room with a relieved look on his face. Though the young servant didn’t aware that his young master was eyeing him with suspicion.
