Pioneering the Apocalyptic World - Chapter 31
Chapter 01: A new journey
“Rion… As expected, I’m getting a little tired of it…”
“Ha!… I-I’m sorry, my mistake.”
We set out on a journey to the east-northeast forest designated by the Creator God.
We arrived at the forest relatively quickly, but… This forest is too vast. Three days have passed since we entered it, but we still can’t find a place that seems to be our destination. Or rather, in the first place, even though we are traversing a forest, we haven’t been able to move as far as expected.
That’s because… I can’t help but wander around collecting a novelty of materials…
“… Rion, wasn’t there enough wood stocked at base?”
“Eh, this type of wood is from type that I first collected now?”
“Fumu, does it have any difference between the other types?”
“It have a different color, right?”
“………………I see.”
Then, just after entering the forest I started to logging and Uru became astounded at me, but I ignored her and…
“Oh, this is the first time I’ve seen this flower. Let’s collect it.”
“Mushrooms! Alright, let’s pick these too. Can we grow them at our base?”
“Oops, this bug can also be used as an alchemy ingredient. Ah, that one too—”
And like that, there were new things everywhere that I seen for first time since I came to this world (Asteria), so even if I don’t plan to use them, I developed a tendency(disease) that made me want to collect everything in front of me.
Uru was coping with me at first, but as expected, it seems that she got tired(mentally) when I continued to endlessly collect like this. I’m sorry for that…
But probably, this tendency(disease) won’t heal. I am sorry!
“Hmm, we covered a large area today, so let’s set up a statue of the Creator God and go back to the base for now.”
“Umu…”
Just in case, I’ve brought enough items for last two weeks without resupply (on top of that, it’s possible to procure locally, so the period we can move can be even longer), but I’m worried about the state of the base so lets return. Well, the return stone is really convenient~.
…Because in Asteria there is “bad people” unlike the game…When I thought about if it was destroyed or stolen, I became a little scared of leaving it unattended for a long time without a reliable person at base or a security golem.
We also have cows and chickens to tend. There is an automatic feeding device, but if the device breaks and they dies, I would cry.
With that said, we returned to the base.
“I’m home. The letter’s are… None, well that is normal.
Before leaving for the trip, I told Regulus and Lieze, “I’ll be away from home often, so if anything happens, please leave a letter.” I also set up a post for that purpose in front of the entrance of the base.
But if it’s only about three days, its around the time that would take for someone from Grosso village run at max speed and finally arrive here? It’s only a little bit. Well for us who can use the return stone is just a single moment.
Hmm, I wonder if I can make a transport type item that the residents can use now? After the middle stage of the game, you can combine some items with a wind magic stone to make jet boots, but I can’t do that yet.
Let’s think about it when I have some free time, but I feel like the materials will be a more hard wall to overcome than the skill level…
After checking around the base and resting comfortably in bed for the night (Uru was dullish like everytime, so I’m worried if she really rested). Then next day we returned to the creator god statue in the forest with a return stone. Collected it and resumed our journey.
“Now then, the compass… Hmm, the sun is over there, so over there is east and over there is north… Without any changes, it still appoint to the west-southwest——the base’s creator god statue.”
The compass I’m talking about here is not the one that point to the north. this one indicates the nearest creator statue. But honestly, I think it’s a little hard to use.
After all, if you want to return to the Goddess of Creation statue, you can just use the return stone, so you don’t necessarily need to know the location. There were times when I accidentally forgot to make it and saw tears, but leaving that aside.
It’s a reassuring ally since there are restrictions on the use of return stones in the Abandoned Continent, but the other day I was able to use it without any problems.
In any case, like in this case using the “Base (the statue of the creator god) as the start point” to calculate the direction when moving is not fully useless, but normally to know the direction it’s faster to calculate from the current sun position and time.
……Maybe I can make a normal compass too? I wonder if there’s something like a magnet here.
Just in case, there some advantages to use it sometimes.
That’s when’ there is a village nearby where the statue of the creator god was functioning properly’.
At that time, the compass needle will change direction, so if you keep going to that direction, you will find a new village.
There was times when, even though there was a village relatively nearby, I couldn’t find it. So this time to prevent that, I brought the compass with me.
……Well, this too have the problem of that if you don’t pay attention to it, you could just look at it and think “Huh? When did I suddenly turned the wrong way?” and became lost… (I have experienced it)
“Well then, shall we continue?”
“… That’s fine, but just don’t get too carried away with the material collection…?”
At Uru’s request, I responded by slowly averting my gaze and she let out a sigh.
“…At least be careful around your feet and overhead… How many times have you fallen and how many times have you been caught in branches…”
“Ah, haha…”
It’s the same thing I mentioned to Uru before as a caution in the dungeon! I’m so sorry that the person who said it is being a bad example.
Even in my game times, there were cases when, while I was chasing bugs overhead I had fallen off a hill or while I was absorbed in collecting flowers from a flower garden I was stabbed in the back by monsters…… Wait, that means that I still haven’t grown up!
It’s not a game anymore, so I really have to be careful… That’s what I think with my mind, but my body end moving on its own…
If I was alone is one thing, but when there’s the reliable Uru nearby, I can’t help but let my guard down… That’s an excuse, yes.
“U,mu… When I’m called reliable, Its makes me happy…”
“No, no, no, it’s okay to you get angry about that part…?”
What should I do, Uru is too kind that I feel like I will going to became spoiled. Really lets just do something seriously…
“But really, there is a lot of insects here.”
“That’s because we are in the forest. Even like this is an already decreased quantity due to the insect repellent.”
Perhaps the insects that fly around the edge of her vision are irritating? Uru frowns and makes a gesture of wiping them away with her hand.
That’s right, the insect repellent is a plain item, but is very important when moving through the forest. Even if they are not monsters, you can became poisoned or paralysed by being stung by insects.
And… there are bugs that even though they’re not monsters, are more troublesome than monsters.
Their name is Silent Killer also commonly named among players as the suicide bombers.
They looks like a bee and they are a type of insect that silently creeps up to a player and stings them, inflicting a considerable quantity of damage. After stabbing, they always dies, so because that the were called “suicide bombers” between the players.
They are slightly larger than a bee, so it’s easy to differentiate between then, but it since it flies, before you know they attack from behind— Happens a lot.
Even if you don’t take any hostile action, just by a player approaching, they will come to stab you without even thinking about their own life. It’s a mystery what drives them to this point.
“Tch… It’s these guys again.”
Uru knocked down one of the Silent Killers in question. You are also mystery, how you notice them….
“Hmm, maybe there’s a Silent Killer’s nest nearby.”
It didn’t exist in the game, but it wouldn’t be strange if it exist in Asteria. A nest with a shape just like a bee’s nest.
The quality of insect repellent items is not that good too. Should we also consider detouring it?
“…That might be exactly the case that we were in.”
Hearing Uru’s serious voice, I turn my gaze in the direction that she is looking at??
“… It’s huge.”
I could only come up with such a stupid impression.
