Chapter 26: A little payback at the end of the story
When Kaina turned around in a hurry, Zagi-san came along with Wiega-san and their entourage. And Uru was among them.
……Thank goodness, they properly listened to Uru’s words. The reason I had Uru act separately was to secretly contact them.
Well, if they were people who would say ‘Because she is a lizard’ and ignore her words.Well, the incident has already been resolved, and I don’t have anymore reason to get along with them, so In that case I would just give up on them and go back home with a return stone.
But… Did they even bring evidence?
“This was in your room.”
When I saw what was carelessly thrown into the floor, I unintentionally frowned.
…… It was a [Contaminated Evil Treant Branch].
In other words, he absolutely knew about the existence of the Evil Treant.
“Wh-What is that, I don’t know anything about it. That’s right, that lizard over there must have brought it! Haha, trying to set me into a trap??”
“… Then why your subordinate testified that he was ordered to make the people that you didn’t like drink it?”
Wiega-san pulled a man’s arm and made him stand in front.
……Hmm? I think I’ve seen him somewhere before… Where was it?
“The slave’s collar and the contaminant’s research notes have already been confiscated. The handwriting is clearly yours, so your excuses won’t work.”
I heard about this later, but putting aside the weakening effect, the miasma contamination in the village was mostly Kaina’s work.
There were various notes written in the notebook, such as how much should be ingested to the symptoms start, whether they will continue, and whether they will lead to death.
There was not a single mention of ‘symptoms recovered’ or ‘cured’ in there, and no mentions of the process or effort to cure it, so the lines of medical research disappeared and the notes seemed to be entirely dedicated to how to use them as a poison.
The subjects… Were mainly selected from the other faction, and If they opposed to him, even those in his own faction were used.
And… It was also used in Fricka’s mother. It seems that Fricka’s father wanted to ‘make her became dependent to him(To the medicine that he provide, that didn’t even work in the first place)’ at first, but it seems that he made her ingest a lethal dose by mistake.
His excessive selfishness almost made me threw up. ……But I didn’t tell this to Fricka about this. Wiega-san told me to keep this secret only to me.
However, our strategy, an acting of being stabbed by Fricka and making Fricka’s father to let his guard down was correct, but I didn’t think that the mastermind, who I didn’t even know if It existed or not, would come out by himself.
Apparently Uru reported the matter about Fricka’s Father assassination attempt order, obtained permission to arrest him, and was planning to follow them from behind, but Zagi-san, who was already suspicious of Kaina, suddenly changed the plan.
I thought that If was me, I would never leave such a dangerous notebook in my room, but Uru found the entrance to a secret room that was cleverly disguised, there was even a huge padlock locking it, but Uru just broke it with brute force…. There was not that he could be done about it.
“Damn it!”
“I will not let you do that.”
Goon!
“… Ugh…!?”
Desperate, Kaina tried to put up a last-ditch resistance, but Uru immediately threw a stone at him, and he fell unconscious and was easily caught. ……Isn’t it good that your head didn’t crack?
Every time that Kaina’s entourage showed strange movements, stones were thrown at them, and in the end they all became silent.
And so the commotion came to an end. While Kaina and Fricka’s father and a ton of others people were being dragged to jail, Uru came over to us.
“Thank you for your hard work. Rion, Fricka.”
“Thank you too, Uru. I was worried about what to do, so you helped me.”
“I know you’re tired, but someone wants to talk to you.”
“Hmm?”
When Uru waved her hand to behind …That person who was said to be Kaina’s subordinate approached.
I took a slightly vigilant stance, but I was surprised when he suddenly knelt down.
“I am very sorry, Miko-sama. I would also like to apologize to your companion.”
It seems that the first tea I drank was mixed with miasma branches. Come to think of it, it had a kinda strange taste… Was that the cause?
It seems that it was originally intended for the hateful Lizard(Uru), but I was also drunk the same thing.
“You were Kaina’s subordinate… So why did you testified against him?”
Although the situation was hectic, at the time that Zagi-san heard this person’s story, he probably didn’t know that it would end like this. So he should have been able to say that he didn’t know. Was it a guilty conscience?
…… My expectation was not completely wrong, but my eyes widened a little at the unexpected reason.
“My son’s illness was cured with Miko-sama’s medicine, so…”
Ah, I heard that there were some sick people from the Elder Trio faction. Was the child of this person among them… Now that you mention it, I still have vague memories of seeing his face. So that is what they call a good karma?
Thanks to me, he no longer has to follow what he was ordered while being blackmailed for the medicine, and what’s a even worse story, he didn’t even know what he was mixing in the tea, and when he was told by Zagi-san that it was the same thing that was tormenting his own children, he despaired and decided to confess what he was being forced to do.
……Haa, I can’t even get angry at him. I also had no symptoms.
As for Uru, she just shrugged her shoulders and said, “I didn’t notice it at all,” and seemed to entrust the decision to me.
“I won’t question your actions towards me and Uru. However, please accept the judgment properly regarding your actions up until now.”
“……Thank you very much.”
There seems to be room for extenuating circumstances, but that is not the place for me to intervene. I don’t think it’s all because of that person’s fault, but some people ended dead because it.
As if to replace the subordinate who went home, this time a women and children came.
Hoh, this person is…
“Miko-sama, greetings… Before I say that, your injuries are okay?”
Oops, come to think of it, I left it as It was.
“It’s okay, it’s just tomato juice.”
“Tomato.”
It’s a classic method… Well I don’t know if it’s used in Asteria. If Uru or a Beast(beast-man) that have a good nose were the opponent It would be easily exposed.
After patting my belly as if to show that I’am okay, I turned to face the woman.
“The disease have healed enough to you walk. It’s a good thing.”
“Ah, yes. Thank you very much for that.”
Yeah, It’s really good.
When I nodded in satisfaction, as if to push away the mother who lowered her head the boy raised his hand and with a happy “Hi!” he drew the attention to himself.
“Miko-sama, listen, listen!”
“Hmm? What is?”
The mother is flustered by her child’s words and actions, but I gestures that It’s okay.
“You see, Wiega-sama will open a medicine class!”
Heh. He is fast.
I’m relieved that he didn’t try to monopolize it by himself, and that he seems to be opening one properly. Well, he seemed like a nice person, so I wasn’t too worried about him.
As I was admiring that in my mind, the boy spoke out the words that took me by surprise.
“I will study a lot and I will become able to make amazing medicines like miko-sama!”
“??”
My chest became tight and I couldn’t speal any words.
It makes me happy to be thanked for the things I made, but it also makes me feel itchy.
However, to show me an attitude of following me like a role model like this… It makes me simply, happy.
Witnessing the will to making things, the spread of the power of creation, there is something deeply moving about it.
Ah… The seeds I sowed are sprouting properly. I felt like that.
It may return to be a wasteland again. However, it can also become a grassland that stretches far into the distance.
Hopefully, this sprout will grow in good health??
“Yeah… Do your best. I’m looking forward to it.”
Tens of years from now, the boy will have skills comparable to a miko in the field of medicine, but that’s a story for another time.
