Chapter 27: Cleaning up the rest
The next day after the end of that series of incidents.
Uru and I were tired from subjugating the Evil Treant, and since we had nothing to do with the faction dispute in Alness Village, we were able to rest soundly, but Zagi-san and Wiega-san seemed to have been working hard all night and are exhausted. However, it couldn’t be finished in a single night, and it seems that there is still a lot of work to do.
They don’t have to call me in the middle of such a busy time… I thought so, but there’s a matter that they want to talk about as soon as possible.
As a side note, there are only me, Zagi-san and Wiega-san here, and neither Uru nor Fricka are present.
“Miko-sama, thank you very much for resolving this incident. As the representative of Alness Village, I would like to express my gratitude.”
……When Zagi-san lowers his head with a sincere and serious face, it makes me feel really itchy……As expected, I can’t say such a rude impression aloud.
“Also, for got you involved in this embarrassing faction dispute…I am very sorry.”
“… I accept your thanks and apology. But, you didn’t call me for that, right?”
Zagi-san nodded saying “As you says.” and Wiega-san took over the conversation.
Currently, the Elder Trio and Fricka’s father are being thrown into prison and being interrogated. They will let me know as soon as they know more details.
After a bit of wait, all I was told gave me a headache.
Fricka’s father ended up being just an idiot (that said, additional sins were discovered in heaps, so his sins are heavy), but Kaina did other things besides administering contaminants.
Well, I can’t say that Kaina was the only cause, but… It seems that he was endlessly cursing that miko’s grave. Also, manure, animal carcasses, and few other things, the so-called ‘impurities’ were thrown into it.
In this case, the curses that we are talking about don’t actually have an effect like a magical curse or something like that, he only was endlessly spewing out grudges and complaints at the grave… But well, the possibility of them changing into a real curse wasn’t out of the question…
By the way, it seems that the reason why he resented him was that he didn’t teach him about how to make things at all. This alone made me groan and say “…That damned miko!”.
The miko made all the items by himself, and never teached his children how to make them. The reason Kaina and the others knew about how to make medicine was because they sneaked into his work room while the miko was sleeping and studied various things from the rests that were left behind. ……I wish that they had put that passion to a good use.
That said, the reason why they wanted to know how to make things was because they wanted to rule the village. … Should he have taught them how to make them, or was it the right decision not to teach them? This is a troublesome point to consider.
And before he knew it, the giant tree in which the urn was buried had turned into an Evil Treant, and had become clad in miasma… And seems that he came up with the idea of ruling the village with the polluted branches he picked up at that time.
Yeah, he was not good.
It should be noted that the others two of the elder trio, Ash and Orto, were almost not involved.
All they did was try to entertain me diagonally… I didn’t even feel to claim that they should absolutely condemned.
“The problem is… It’s obvious to anyone eyes that Kaina and Roof have committed a big crime.”
Hmm? Roof? ……Judging from the flow of the story, it must be Fricka’s father. So that’s his name.
“What’s wrong with that?”
“…As Roof’s relatives, his children Fricka and Fin will have to be punished.”
“…………What?”
I couldn’t understand the words that he said, and I froze up for a moment.
Even though Fin is still young and probably hasn’t done anything, and Fricka have even been victimized by her father…?
“Such an unreasonable thing??”
As if I would accept it! When I was about to yell at him, he raised his hand to stop me, so I held the words down.
……For the time being, lets listen to his story. I don’t think he is saying this just to irritate me.
“We will conduct an investigation, but it seems that there was no direct or indirect damage, so it would be a appropriate sentence of forced labor.”
It’s often said ‘It’s capital punishment for the whole family!’ in stories like this, but I was a little relieved that it didn’t go that far.
Depending on the content of the labor, it could be quite painful, but… I blinked my eyes at his next words.
“However, Fin is a small child, and Fricka is the miko-sama’s bride, so we had an unanimous agreement that It would be a bad idea… So we decided that would be better to them just work at miko-sama’s place.”
“……What?”
Eh? Putting aside Fin, was Fricka’s bride talk still going on?
When I asked him with a look like that, he replied “Isn’t better to leave it that way?”, so I swallowed my words with a sour face.
In response to my reaction, Zagi-san give me a flying unexpected tease.
“Miko-sama, are you dissatisfied with my cute great-granddaughter?”
“I think she’s super cute and I have no complaints, but as bride is another story, right? ”
When I answered reflexively, Wiega-san burst out laughing. ……Hey! It’s true that I too think it’s a stupid answer, but it’s an important to me!
After theatrically letting out a cough, I looked at Zagi-san.
“I thought that Zagi-san hated me, but I wondered how you can entrust your such a cute great-grandchild to me?”
I haven’t forgotten The fact that you ridiculed me that much on the first day. Well, It’s not like I’am holding a grudge, but…
However, the sarcastically returned words made me realize the inadequacy of my thinking, and made me want to make a dogeza in place.
“Ah… To not even try to have a dialogue, with only the name of god and its own emotions as cause to try push its way through, made me remember about a certain miko in the past…I’m sorry.”
Aaaaah I’m very sorry!!!
When you point it out, that right! The one who just selfishly had a bad impression and didn’t even try to make a conversation was me!
When I was apologizing while in cold sweat, he laughed at my face……Ugh, I have no choice but to put up with it……
“However, it’s also true that I, too, dragged my feelings of resentment towards that miko around forever and even turned then toward the miko-sama, who had nothing to do with him. I am extremely sorry.”
We decided to say that we are both even here. Yeah, let’s be careful in the future…
“Um, let me get back to the topic, but in order to let Fricka and Fin with me… I would like to set one, no, two conditions.”
“What is it?”
“First of all… If you don’t ‘clean up’ this village, I won’t let them even show their face here, do you understand?”
Although it takes a form of forced labor, the idea is to essentially to let them evacuate this village.
That’s why, although I do want to let them go home from time to time, but …… If a system like when this village was ruled by a trio of elders continue to exist would be a problem.
It’s an indirect message that says ‘I will not lend any hand to direct reform, but please do your best.’.
Did they understand my intentions? The two nodded solemnly.
“And the second one is…”
I put my fingers in the shape of scissors (scissors do exist in Asteria too) and made a snipping gesture.
“I don’t know what will happen to ‘that thing’ charge, but… At least I want you to ‘cut it off’…”
Personal grudge? That’s right.
No, well, I will give up if it will twist the criminal law in Alness Village. I will don’t go out of my way to push things emotionally, okay? Eh, that sounds like a lie? Hahaha.
I dared to say it with a smile, but the two of them twitched the corners of their mouths a little.
“… Let’s add the sin of trying to put a hand in miko-sama’s bride and do our best to make it happen.”
Wait… Did I dug my own grave here…?
