Chapter 12: Crafting skills and magic
For some reason, Mikos cannot use magic directly.
If it was in the game, I can understand that the reason is ‘because it’s that kind of mechanic.’, but I wonder why it can’t be used even now that I am in a real world.
In order for me(Miko) to use magic, I need to create a magic tool and use the tool. In the game, NPCs sometimes sell them.
As for the magic tool, no matter how simple it is, it still takes quite a work to make.
For example, the easiest fire magic is Ignition. That is (in my case) convenient for cooking, so I use a magic tool called ignition stone??It looks just like a magic stone??to ignite the flames.…… If it is an extremely simple magic tool, it can be used in an unprocessed state like a magic stone, but if it is a little stronger one, it must be processed into a different shape. It’s a matter of material strength the reason that you have to make it a different shape? I want to research that part too.
As an aside, if you use ignition magic, the duration of the fire is instant, so if you want to use it as a direct fire source like a stove, you need to keep using magic endlessly, so the MP efficiency is poor. In the first place, there is no fire magic that lasts for a long time… No, in this world there might be some magic like that and I just don’t know about it.
In order to make an ignition stone, you need a magic table??It looks like a workbench with a magic circle carved into it??As a tool, as the materials you need a magic stone and a fire-attribute catalyst and as for knowledge, you need to know the incantation(spell) for the ignition magic. You need all of this to make even the most simple magic tool.
Furthermore, since magic tables cannot be used until one day has passed since they are set up, it is not possible to take them out of the item box and create them on the spot like workbench. By the way, blast furnaces have similar restrictions. I didn’t realize it during the game, but now I can feel like something was being sucked up from the ground, so I guess that it is connected to the earth and the receiving blessings from it.
That said, if there are people like Fricka who can use magic as they like, I can make magic tools anywhere. The point is that a Miko needs a magic table and a catalyst to use magic(?), right.
Well then, although the introduction has become long, now is time for my magic training. In the first place can I even use it? That my genuine feelings, but this is my first experience with the power of lightning. You won’t know until you try, so there is hope… That what I would like to believe.
The location is the meadow next to the base. The lecturer is Fricka, Uru and Fin are watching us. Regulus and Lieze are in Grosso Village. In particular, Regulus seems to be in the target of a hellish training… Good luck.
“… For me, it’s very strange that Rion-sama, who uses so much mana, can’t use magic…”
As expected, there are people who can use ignition magic. But apart from that, the process of cooking.
In my case, MP is consumed in an instant instead of the process of making a food item using the making skill. If you make it by hand, it takes time and effort, but the MP consumption is reduced. As I said It is reduced, but is not like the consumption disappears.
I thought this was normal, but…
I can feel her disappointment. …… Huh, I’m sorry? From the side, I can hear muttering things like “Well, it’s Rion.”…
Well, for me, it’s only natural to consume MP to make anything, and I can only perceive the buff effect as nothing more than a feeling that my cooking skill level has risen… I wonder if this is also a harmful effect of the game sense of value…
Fricka put her hand on her cheek and let out a big sigh, then she recovered her mind and said “Let’s put that aside.” and continued.
“In other words, Rion-sama should already have the groundwork to ‘use mana’. On top of that, you also know the incantation for the magic. It’s strange that you can’t use magic with all this.”
“When you say like that… I really wonder why I can’t?”
Could it be that I’m just dragging in the settings from the game and just assumpted that ‘it can’t be used’?
Well, I might find out if I try this and that from now on, maybe …… I hope that I can discover why.
“First, I’ll show you how to use magic. With the image of releasing mana from your fingertips… Fire, light up. Ignition.”
As Fricka stretched out her arm and used magic, a small fire lit up at the tip of her index finger.
Magic can be activated by chanting the magic name after the spell chanting. In this case, “Fire, Light up” is the spell chant and “Ignition” is the magic name. Even just only chanting or only the magic name alone won’t activate the magic, and the higher the rank of the magic, the longer the chanting will be, so it’s rather troublesome to use. And I didn’t know it before, but it seems that something called magic construction? is also necessary.
In the case of a miko, the spell chanting + magic name is chanted in front of the magic table, and finally an item filled with magic can be created. As for the magic construction… I wonder how it is, I’ll try researching it when the skill level goes up. I can’t use magic itself, but I wonder if it’s a merit of being miko to be able to omit the chanting by using items.
What Regulus used was only just ‘something like magic.’ and it could not be called a true magic. But that seems to be a form of training to use mana, and if he can grasp the sensation, he might be able to use others magics as well.
Now let’s return to the main subject. Let’s concentrate on Fricka’s talk.
…… Is that so, Fin can see it as well…… I envy you……!
“Then, do you feel like ‘mana is flowing’ in your body when you are making things?”
“Hmm…?”
I’ve never been conscious of the flow of mana.
I took out the usual stone block from the QA box.
“Creation(Making), [Stone Statue of the Creator God]”
“… It’s strange no matter how many times I see how a simple stone changes its shape.”
“… Isn’t magic something similar?”
From my point of view, both ‘stones changing shape’ and ‘fire coming out of nothing’ seem strange. I wonder if it’s because of the knowledge I had in my original world where magic didn’t exist.
Fricka’s eyes blinked to my unexpected casual question.
Then, she puts her hand on her chin and starts mumbling something.
“She looks like Rion when she is thinking about making things.” “… That’s right.”… I see, when I’m in deep thought, this is what it looks like from the side……
Fricka raised her head after a short pause.
“… Is it possible for me to do the same thing as Rion-sama?’
She said that with a serious look on her face, but … Isn’t that impossible…?
The making skill is a power unique to a Miko, and a Miko is a being appointed by the Creator God.
If the making skill could be used by people other than Miko… Wouldn’t it be unnecessary for the Creator God to appoint a Miko? It seems that even the elder trio, who are the direct children of a miko, can’t use it either.
“… Yeah, that’s right, isn’t it? If so, even if the power of Rion-sama is like magic, it seems that it is a technology that is completely different from magic.”
“…… I see.”
“I don’t know any more than that, so let’s put this aside. Now it’s about Rion-sama’s use of magic.”
“Yes, I’ll try it for now.”
