Lin Lan exchanged a few words with Xue Mingliang and offered him to stay for dinner.

Xue Mingliang naturally refused. It was good enough to have a brief introduction. Since the other party still had children to take care of, he knew better than to intrude, “Auntie, please go ahead and handle what you need to. I’ll go home for now, but I will return to visit again.”

Lin Lan didn’t want to keep him. After all, her sons had fallen into the water and she had no intention of entertaining guests, so she sent him out politely.

Soon, Liu Guifa led the village doctor over. He had the same idea as Lin Lan— worried that the children could have caught a bad cold from falling into the water. He also worried if they would end up having a fever.

The doctor looked at their conditions and said slowly, “It’s okay as long as  they don’t have a fever.”

Lin Lan was a little worried, “What if they did?”

“We can handle that if they do get a fever, I suppose. Half of the tablet would be fine to consume by then, but it’s not a guarantee either, so they’ll have to make sure that it doesn’t get too high…”

Lin Lan quickly interrupted him. The doctor spoke slowly and liked to use transitional sentences. Even if his words were correct, it was uncomfortable to listen to.

Seeing that nothing was wrong, Liu Guifa took the doctor to leave first, “Qingsong and the others are working on the southeast slope far away. I will go and inform him to get off work and go home early.”

He went out with the doctor and complained to the doctor, stating that he should get to the point sometimes. The doctor smiled good-naturedly and was not angry.

After Maisui made the ginger soup, Lin Lan made two more eggs and poured them directly into the ginger soup. Then, she added a spoonful of sugar and had them drink it while it was hot.

But after touching his hands and feet before realising that they weren’t cold, she deduced that it probably wasn’t a fever.

It was more likely that he was scared.

Lin Lan hugged him, touched his head and back, hummed some children’s songs to him and asked him to relax and sleep for a while.

Sanwang laid in Lin Lan’s arms, feeling his mother’s sympathy and love as his tears flowed more fiercely, praying in his heart that he would not be sent away.

He felt that he should admit his mistake, but he was not sure if his mother would forgive him if she knew that he had dared to jump into the river, which eventually led to Xiaowang falling into the water in an attempt to save him. It would be fine if he was given a beating— at most he would have to live with the pain for a couple of days, but he was afraid of getting kicked out.
