Lin Mei worriedly said, “Did he actually go down the river? Aiya, Haonan is most afraid of water. If his grandmother were to find out, wasn’t she going to have a heart attack?”

Lin Lan smiled and said, “When your family raises a child, it seems like the kid himself was made out of paper; how is Haonan that fragile? To be spoon fed even though he is already 6 years old? He didn’t even know how to eat on his own.”

Lin Mei said embarrassedly, “Wasn’t that because of his grandmother that couldn’t bear to see her grandson struggling?”

“Sister, his grandmother won’t be with him his entire life. Plus, this is your son, so why is everything left up to his grandmother? What will you do in the future then— act like his grandmother and find a good wife who can support and take care of him?” Lin Lan knew that her words were a bit harsh, but this sort of thing was not enough to cause a pair of twins like Lin Lan and Lin Mei to argue with each other endlessly. After all, it was true that Lin Mei’s husband was a gigolo. If she couldn’t say stuff like this, then no one had the right to.

Lin Mei’s face also became solemn.

Lin Lan added, “Not talking about anything else, for a child this age, you should send him to school to get to know a few words. Even if he doesn’t go, then you should have my brother-in-law teach him a few things— after all, it will be free of charge to have his father tutor him. Since he is always home, he should have a responsibility to fulfil as well. If farm work is not for him, then maybe weaving cloth is an option.” 

Lin Mei, “…He does a few things sometimes.”

But Lin Lan knew better than to take it as the truth. He was truly milking his senior aged parents and his wife in order to become a gigolo and enjoy life. Not only that, but he was gradually directing Haonan into this way of life as well.

According to the family plot that Lin Lan knew, Lin Mei’s future was not a good one. Although she was a strong woman, her husband did nothing but rely on her and her son was pretty much useless. In the end, she finally died out of anger and piled-up frustrations and stress. Without the protection of his mother, there was naturally no other form of protection for Haonan, so it wasn’t possible for him to achieve anything worthwhile. Ultimately, his family business was targeted and scammed away, leading him to live the rest of his life in poverty and depression.

The smile on Lin Mei’s face gradually disappeared as Lin Lan’s questions went directly to her heart.

Lin Lan added, “No matter how incapable a man is considered to be, his physical strength is still going to be stronger than a woman. I know that you’re strong, but  as a woman there is a limit to how much physical abilities we have. If it weren’t for the few part-time gigs that you do on the side all this time, your body would have never been able to cope with the intensive labour. My brother-in-law isn’t as incapable as you might think, so why not let him try to work and obtain some points for the family? If he is unable to obtain 10 points as expected of men, then would it be impossible for him to achieve 7 points that equals the workforce of a woman? Haonan should also stay with us occasionally some time to learn some rules and habits from his older cousins. Third Sister, all you have is a son— you cannot spoil him even further than this.”
