Wu Caixian’s eyes were so swollen that her eyeballs were practically out of view. She stopped crying at this moment and just hugged her youngest son tightly, as if doing so was a life-saving tactic.
Liu Wenhu glared at the three of them as if they were a thorn in his eye.
Yanyan clenched her fists, leaned next to her mother and glared back at Liu Wenhu.
Liu Wenhu was so angry that he raised his hand, “You damned girl…”
Yanyan, “You damned scumbag!”
Liu Wenhu was about to hit her.
Han Yongfang coughed and interrupted, “Don’t start smacking people now.”
Liu Wenhu immediately held back and spat at Yanyan and the others in hatred.
Yanyan immediately spat back.
Caihua, who was in the crowd outside, kept eyeing Yanyan, telling her not to be impulsive and to hold back for the time being. She wanted to go in and sit next to Yanyan, but it was a pity that everyone there were only the involved parties. Plus, if she were to go in, it would anger Liu Wenhu and cause her parents to become angry at her again. Then, they were probably going to be mad at her once more.
Therefore, all she could do was remain outside and watch.
Old Lady Wu groaned and supported her head, “My son is dead, but I am not dead yet. Filial piety towards the elderly is still necessary.”
Lin Lan looked at her with great contempt. She had never seen an elder that didn’t recognise the widowed wife of her dead son as a relative once the one person that kept the ties between them passed on. Also, it was unbelievable how she harboured no feelings for her own grandchildren.
Liu Wenhu also said, “That’s right, so we have to divide the family and give all the things to the elderly due to old age. If she wants to remarry, it’s up to her, but she can’t occupy our Liu family’s house, money and food.”
Wu Caixian hesitated and wanted to speak, but she didn’t know how to say it. Part of the reason was also the fact that she was embarrassed to be in the public eye.
Yanyan spat in return, “What do you mean by your Liu family? Which Liu family do you represent? Are my brother and I not from the Liu family? The food in our family is earned by my mother and father’s work points— did you ever provide us with a single point? What right do you have to divide our rations like that?”
“There’s me! I am your grandmother, so you have to divide it for me,” Old Lady Wu was furious. The more she looked at this granddaughter, the more she couldn’t stand it.
Yanyan said angrily, “You’re just an old lady that wouldn’t die off; you’re not my grandmother!”
This stirred up a hornet’s nest. Old Lady Wu and Liu Wenhu and others started to scold Yanyan together.
Lin Lan, “Shut up.”
When she said this, Dong Huaihua immediately added, “What about your family? What do you mean by splitting up? Why was the family even split up in the first place? Once a family was split, then each family would fend for themselves. However, when the son died, the elders would always help to raise the grandchildren.
