She and Han Jinyu lived in the same courtyard and she knew more about the girl than the other two sisters-in-law. She usually gossiped a lot, but it was a pity that Lin Lan didn’t like to gossip about others nor did she like to hang out with Second Sister-in-law Han. Hence, the latter got uncomfortable when she didn’t get a chance to show off her knowledge.

She waited for Lin Lan to ask her about what she said curiously. Then, it wouldn’t be weird for the Second Sister-in-law to add a few things. However, Lin Lan didn’t respond at all. Han Jinyu could do whatever she wanted and it would be none of her business.

Eldest Sister-in-law looked at Han Jinyu’s retreating silhouette, still a little bit in disbelief. Holding Lin Lan’s arm, she asked, “Third Sister-in-law, is this even real?”

Lin Lan smiled and said, “How could it be false?”

Eldest Sister-in-law Han let out a sigh of relief, “Amitabha,” Finally, the source of the plague had beensent away by God.

Second Sister-in-law Han smiled and said, “Eldest Sister-in-law still has to burn some incense, but we can just let her go to harm other families.”

Second Brother Han heard his wife slandering his sister. Slightly embarrassed, he countered, “What are you women talking about?”

Second Sister-in-law Han stared at Old Lady Han and smiled gloatingly, your precious daughter is no longer here with you, let’s see who you’re going to team up with from now on. Suffocate to death in frustration!

Lin Lan was too tired to talk to them, so if there was nothing else of importance, she was going to go home. Wedding off Han Jinyu relieved a huge burden away from everyone’s shoulders now that they no longer needed to listen to her talk nonsense about ‘not wanting to marry’.

The next day, the children went to school, Han Qingsong went to work, and Lin Lan sewed bibs for Xiaowang and Sanwang at home in the morning. She had saved some scraps of cloth whereas others were given by Lin Mei— all were gathered together in order to sew the bibs for the two youngests.

Sanwang’s clothes get dirty very easily. Although it was merely the jacket that got most of the dirt, he was still able to make it filthy a lot quicker than the other children. In this weather, it was not easy to dry clothes after washing, so she made him wear the coat the other way round like a child. This way, it wouldn’t seem so unpresentable and she could alternate days to scrape off the dirt on each side without needing to fully wash it.

In addition to playing the flute and harmonica with Huo Yuan, Xiaowang also liked to paint and draw. Lin Lan had bought back a lot of cheap quality gouaches and since the child enjoyed painting, she wasn’t going to stop him either. However, this meant that his clothes also got dirty easily.

She was concentrating on working with the sewing machine when she suddenly heard Han Qinghua’s voice echo from behind her, “Sister-in-law, you’re home alone?”

Lin Lan subconsciously grabbed the awl at hand and said in a normal voice, “You and Eldest Brother just came home? Is the Liu family okay?”

Han Qinghua stood at the door of the west room and smiled at her, “It went pretty well. I called out to you from outside but you didn’t hear me, so I parked the bicycle in the yard and wanted to bring you some sugar snack pieces from the ceremony.”
