Strict Wife Of The ’70s Manages The Household - Chapter 966
Sanwang immediately raised his voice when he heard it, “This zongzi is unusual, it’s cunning and slippery, what’s hidden in its belly! Come on, I’ll strip you naked, strip you naked…You can try to slip by and you can try to hide…”
Lin Lan and the others looked at him in horror.
Sanwang, “Haha…I think it’s better if I just wait for you guys to finish making it. I’ll eat it instead.”
Lin Lan didn’t know if the better option was to laugh or cry, “Okay, let’s start wrapping the meat and egg yolk ones— these have to be bigger.”
Because there was meat and egg yolk, the zongzi had to be slightly larger in size.
Xiaowang, “Mom, don’t forget to wrap a spicy one for Eldest Brother.”
Sanwang and Maisui laughed as Lin Lan sighed helplessly.
Dawang didn’t like spicy food when he was a child. But later on, when Lin Lan was handling the health promotions, she found out that the chili of the Yongxing Brigade was very good, so she brought some back home. At first, she fried them into some chili oil and made some chopped peppers as well, adjusting the flavours along with Han Qingsong. In the end, her husband didn’t like it very much, but Dawang loved it. During the summer, he liked it even more and simply couldn’t live without spicy food.
Because her eldest son enjoyed the spice, Lin Lan was happy to go to promote more awareness camps in the Yongxing Brigade. Whenever she returned, she would bring back peppers to make hot sauce, fried chili oil, roasted chilies, ground chili powder, pickled spicy vegetables, pickled peppers etc. and all sorts of ways to cook the spices.
On the other hand, it seemed like the people in the Yongxing Brigade, who grew those peppers, didn’t seem to be that skilled in handling their spices.
After wrapping the rice dumplings, they lit a fire to cook the rice dumplings. It took at least more than an hour to cook them fully, but after half an hour, the fragrance of the rice dumplings started drifting far away.
After wrapping the rice dumplings, Sanwang carried a basket and led Xiaowang to cut some grass. When they came back with the grass, they saw other people sniffing around and asking, “What is that wonderful smell?”
Sanwang laughed proudly.
“Sanwang, what delicious food is your family making?”
Xiaowang smiled and answered, “My mother and sister are making zongzi.”
“Zongzi?” Some people have heard of it but have never seen it, though a good number of them weren’t even familiar with the name. What was zongzi?
Some children started drooling with greed. Ultimately, the fragrance of this zongzi was too unique. It smelled of rice mixed with reed leaves, the sweet fragrance of dates and the undeniable presence of meat.
What’s going on?
Sanwang explained to everyone about how to prepare the reed leaves, how to soak the rice, how to wrap it and other techniques. Even though he didn’t know how to practically do it, he seemed to be especially proficient at explaining.
Everyone could make reed leaves, but the glutinous rice was an obstacle to everyone’s way. Most of them didn’t even have rice, let alone glutinous rice? Would millet work? No, the result would be too loose and not sticky. Some were smart and suggested, “Let’s use rhubarb rice for it then.” Since rhubarb rice was also a kind of sticky rice, a lot of the Northerners also use it to make yellow rice cakes. Folks who never had glutinous rice before would agree that rhubarb rice was rather delicious.
