After lunch, Lin Lan asked everyone to take a nap to relieve their fatigue. During the busy farming season, it was even more important to combine work and rest. Otherwise, one would be exhausted by the time afternoon labour came around.

The older ones all listened to her, but Sanwang never took a nap. In his words, “I sleep so long at night and I’m sleeping throughout the day as well? I will lose my life if I keep sleeping like that!”

So, he didn’t take a nap. He brought Xiaowang, Lice Head and the other children to catch some cicadas, harvest the wheat, cut some grass, swim and basically do whatever he wanted besides taking a nap. Ultimately, it was alright as long as he didn’t wake anybody up.

Xiaowang didn’t have as much energy as his older brother, but he also liked to run around, so Sanwang took him for a nap outside under the shade of the trees. He covered Xiaowang’s belly with his vest, put a straw hat on his head before he went back to the field to harvest wheat with a bare chest.

There was always some fallen wheat in the field after they were harvested. So, if anyone picked them up and sent them to the team, it would count as work points. Sometimes the Production Team would even give them part of the harvest to encourage the children to work.

Two days later, Laixi sent Lin Lan a basket of honey apricots. His grandma’s brigade team had an apricot forest. Starting this year, more apricots were distributed to members. Eldest Sister-in-law Lin got a basket of it, so she asked the children to send some to several of their aunts to try.

Laixi told Lin Lan by the way that the third brother and the seventh brother of the Old Tang family came to help harvest wheat for two days to earn work points for the Lin family. Because of their help, the Production Team completed the task ahead of schedule that day and the wheat wasn’t soaked by the rain either. This year, Second Brother Lin and Tang Hehua were also more capable and less lazy in harvesting wheat than in their previous years. Moreover, Xiaoxin was also very good as well.

Old Man Tang really sent the old lady over to weave cloth. It happened that the Zheng Family Village’s weaving station was short of manpower during the wheat harvest, so they were also recruiting people from other villages. Old Man Tang sent his wife over and asked Old Lady Zheng to keep an eye on her, telling her to weave well and not to mess around with the other gossiping women.
