Finally, a girl is making an appearance for the first time.
Now, I should commence with conducting kills in the dungeon after abducting them, and the greatest precaution in carrying out the process was to refrain from being spotted while executing the operation.
What was the justification behind this? If they had risen a level and still failed to uncover the dungeon’s second level, the outcome of their lives was already out of their hands.
“Therefore, my first target will be misfits or grandparents who live alone that would not arouse suspicion even if they disappear. Do you guys understand?”
“Understood!”, “Let’s do this!”, “Aye, aye!”, “Yessss!”
My query was answered by a significant number of Fogs and Smoke, the higher species of Fog. Their total number was 31 (30 Fogs + 1 Smoke).
However, because the monsters were more vulnerable outside the dungeon, it would be prudent to presume that only one person could be carried at a time, even if there were 31 of them.
Since I had reached level 2, I can summon Smoke, a new monster with the following description:
A mischievous, spirit-like humanoid demon about 1 meter tall. A higher species of Fog.
Its physique is constituted by smoke-like magic power, and its mischief is more vicious with its elevated status.
Summoning cost: MP 100 per unit, HP, SP 10 each.
“Well then, do your bestー”
This is, after all, the initial stage. Let’s get started on the second phase’s preparations as well.
(Hisano Ichiko POV)
There have been instances recently when I sensed an unsettling presence at the school. I was not fond of this feeling, despite not knowing what it was.
Oh, excuse me. My name is Hisano Ichiko, a first-year high school student and a bodyguard for Lady Ryo.
The skill I had acquired was ≪Short-range Teleportation≫, an ability that allowed me to teleport to a distance of about 5 meters away.
Hmm? You’re wondering who is this Lady Ryo?
Lady Ryo, whose real name was Nasu Ryo, was a year older than me and a second-year high school student. On that day, she received a skill called ≪Heal≫ which can mend the wounds of the recipient by holding out her hand to them.
After obtaining that skill, the kind-hearted and lovely young lady had been spending her days healing the wounded in the school, and her compassion had drawn tears from everyone.
Nonetheless, there were fools among them who misinterpreted Lady Ryo’s action of healing as affection, as well as idiots who went on a rampage with the skills they had acquired, all of whom ended up being sent to the hospital thanks to my intervention.
I, of course, left no record of my actions since I can’t let Lady Ryo suffer such sorrow.
“Hey, Ichiko, are you listening?”
“Eh, ah, yes. I’m listening, Lady Ryo.”
“Good then. But still, the mist has been hanging around here frequently these days.”
“Indeed… Moreover, the reports of the disappearance of the elderly and children also seem to have risen along with the mist.”
“Isn’t this a tragic story? I hope they will be discovered soon.”
Over the past week, there had been three major topics that had been raising a stir in our area.
The first was the mist that Lady Ryo mentioned earlier, which should not have emerged so continuously.
The second was a series of disappearances, which had already resulted in the reports of roughly ten persons missing. People who were alone or out late at night were the most common victims.
The labyrinth X-J2, which had surfaced just around the corner from the high school where we were now enrolled, was the third topic.
As of now, not a single person has been sighted as a survivor, nor have any monsters been spotted coming out of the labyrinth, leaving the government in a deep dilemma.
Even Lady Ryo’s father, a member of the National Diet[i], declared, “This labyrinth is far more treacherous than X-J1, which showed up in the capital city”. They may have intended to evacuate this area right now originally, but the challenges of the other labyrinths, as well as their honor, appeared to prohibit them from doing so.
I personally had a hunch that the first and second stories that were circulating at the present time were also ascribed to X-J2.
“Ichiko? What are you doing? If we don’t get going soon, we’ll be late!”
“Yes, Miss. I’m coming.”
Well, whatever. I hope that those who call themselves such mortifying names as the Demon King will leave this world before any harm befalls Lady Ryo.
“I’ve spotted wonderful candidates,” I mumbled to myself as I observed the rear view of the two females who had been relayed to me through Fog’s vision.
