First Outer World Story Series: The Black Mist that Devours - Chapter 137

(Kurokiri POV)
“This one goes here, and that one goes there. How’s it going over there?”
“They’re about to reach the place.”
Having finished my discussion with the other three Demon Kings, I had been working on the preparations for the “Ultra-long-distance Transportation Formation,” as requested.
The target coordinates were roughly two kilometers south of the “Magic Holy Land,” but as I had never been there before, I naturally asked Ichiko, who had visited there before, to cooperate with me.
Now, the room where the “Ultra-long-distance Transportation Formation” was located is on the sixth level, next to the first level of the “White Mist and Black Swamp Forest”.
Regarding the structure of the room, a sphere of about 100 meters in diameter with a horizontal scaffold of about 5 meters wide passing through the center point was surrounded by various geometrically arranged three-dimensional structures that continuously moved in accordance with the surrounding environment and target coordinates.
As to why these objects were there, they were all designed to support the “Ultra-long-distance Transportation Formation,” with various objects moving around them inscribed with powerful characters, and the colors, movement patterns, thickness, and even the sounds of the objects as they moved carried a significance.
To put it bluntly, nothing in this room was devoid of meaning, and the dungeon structure was a composition that existed thanks to its indestructible nature.
If I were to assign a name to this room, I would call it a “Three-dimensionally structured multi-factor auto-adjusting auxiliary magic circle specialized for Ultra-long-distance Transportation Formation”.
Yeah. From all appearances, it looked like the innermost part of an RPG’s final dungeon or a place that seemed to be crucial to the story. In fact, it was an extremely essential facility.
“The coordinates have been set.”
Ichiko, who was adjusting the coordinates in her seat, confirmed the completion of the designation.
“Alright. I’ll contact Chirito and the others now. Please stay put, Ichiko.”
“Understood.”
After finishing the work of setting the green gemstone to make up for the MP consumption… magic source device-MP at the specified position, I moved to the practitioner’s seat for activating the “Ultra-long-distance Transportation Formation” and contacted Chirito via the kin’s transmission.

(Chirito POV)
At the same time, at 2 km south of the “Magic Holy Land”.
“‘Ultra-long-distance Transportation Formation’… the Mist King has developed an extraordinary thing, hasn’t he?”
“Yes, though I heard that this is the first time it will be utilized.”
Our members had been gathered in one place to create the necessary number of equipment with the materials of the robot and for the trial run of “Ultra-long-distance Transportation Formation”.
As for seizing the robot? No, it proved impractical, so we abandoned the idea.
Also, in order to prevent unnecessary friction, I informed the Priest of the situation through Deborah on a more understandable level.
“Do you think Izumi will come?”
“They call her the ‘Master of the Wolf Pack’ these days, but I have no idea.”
However, the “Life and Death Carrier of the Pack of Wolves”, Kokoro Izumi, had yet to arrive at this place.
Though from time to time, I heard rumors that she was heading this way.
“At any rate, our mission is now finished.”
“We can go home for the first time in five years!”
Well, it’s not really a big deal for anyone other than me, Mugi-san, and Une-san. For my part, I am looking forward to seeing Mibako and the kids again after such a long period.
I wonder if Mibako is doing well. Senku, Souji, and Hataki (the third child, a Kirijin girl) have grown up… I am really excited to see them.
[Hey, Chirito. Are you ready over there?]
A transmission had come in from Kurokiri.
“Yes, everything’s fine. Everyone except Izumi is here…”
“Hmm? What is that cloud of smoke?”
At the sound of Mugi’s voice, I turned towards the direction she said while keeping the communication connected.
There, I can spot something speeding with a billowing cloud of dust, and it was heading this way.
“Something is approaching us.”
Everyone, including myself, braced ourselves for whatever may strike.
Then after confirming the presence of that thing, all of us were dazed.
The one billowing a cloud of smoke was a huge wolf, perhaps five meters tall. With fur dyed a stunning crimson, its fangs and claws were exceptionally razor-sharp.
“It has been a long time, hasn’t it? Mugi nee-chan and Une nee-chan.”
Simultaneously, a voice emanated from the wolf’s back, and the wolf’s height shrunk until it became a small accessory that hung around the neck of a young girl.
That girl was holding a pulsating axe in her right hand as if it were alive, and her whole body was wrapped in wolf fur and metal chains.
Then my skills enlightened me about her name and powers.
Kokoro Izumi, the “Life and Death Carrier of the Pack of Wolves,” was her name. She was a former Kirijin and the first and only girl in the world today to become a Demon King single-handedly. She was a level 6 Demon King with immortal regeneration and the power to create and manipulate numerous wolves.
“It’s been a long time, Chirito nii-chan. Are you connected to Kurokiri nii-chan right now?”
Izumi came up to me and said so.
“A-Ah, we’re connected. Or rather, we are going to return after having the ‘Ultra-long-distance Transportation Formation’ activated now.”
“Is that so? Then, can you ask Kurokiri nii-chan if it’s acceptable for me to join along with the flight?”
“Oh, yeah. How about it, Kurokiri-san?”
I inadvertently addressed him as Kurokiri-san, the way I call him as a fellow member of the family instead of the usual outward address, Mist King, but I supposed it was attributable to my tension.
[I don’t have a problem with an extra person, so please return together.]
“I understand. Everything seems to be fine.”
“Thank you, Chirito nii-chan.”
With a smile, Izumi thanked me and walked away from me to join Mugi and the others.
Nonetheless, Izumi’s disposition appeared to have changed remarkably from before. She tended to keep all of her thoughts to herself in the past. But now, she was much brighter and possessed the bearing of a ruler.
[Then, I’m going to open it. Be careful, the gate will be open for 10 minutes.]
“Ah, yes. It is going to open now!”
As Kurokiri declared that the gate will be opened, we immediately gathered in one spot.
After a minute or so, a pitch-black gate about five meters high materialized in front of us, and the seven of us dived through it and returned to our home country.
