First Outer World Story Series: The Black Mist that Devours - Chapter 156
Translator: MadHatter Editor: MadHatter
(Kurokiri POV)
“So in the end, what was the purpose of the God of Calamity?” Ichiko, who had returned to “White Mist and Black Swamp Forest,” asked me.
“The purpose of the God of Calamity huh…”
I was able to put everything I had learned in “The World on the Other Shore” together. I made a mental summary of how I felt during the battle.
“Yeah, that’s right. First of all, the God of Calamity has an original. That is certain.”
“What do you mean!?”
“Even if you asked me what it means, I can only assume it from the descriptions in the book I found on ‘The World on the Other Shore’ and the skills the God of Calamity was using.”
At my words, Ichiko raised her voice with a look of amazement.
In fact, if the description was true, Izumi may have been utilized by the original God of Calamity.
I should mention that to Ichiko as well.
“So, well, I suspect that the ultimate goal of the God of Calamity is something related to her real one but…”
“But?”
“There’s too much information missing for me to grasp it.”
“What’s that?”
When Ichiko learned this, she was taken aback.
“However, I don’t think the original God of Calamity was involved in this matter. If she had been involved and sided with the God of Calamity, I wouldn’t even be here now, let alone wounded.”
While saying this, I examined my body, which had been bandaged and treated by Ryo, signaling that I must rest thoroughly.
“That’s… certainly true. In retrospect, the power Izumi bestowed on me is also inconceivable.”
“Hmm? What are you talking about?”
After I inquired, Ichiko shared with me the story just before she entered ”The World on the Other Shore”.
“At any rate, it’s a tale that reveals how dangerous the original is. Well, it seems that she has no intention to interfere with us, so there’s no need to get involved.”
“Yeah, that’s for sure,” I said this with a look of relief, and Ichiko concured with me.
“Then, Kurokiri.”
“Hmm?”
Ichiko looked me straight in the face and assembled her words.
“What are you planning to do from now on?”
“Oh… The root of all evil has been eradicated. Then I’ll just live my life the way I want to.”
“I see,” Ichiko said so with a smile.
And then I grasped her chin and remarked, “Well, for now, I’m going to punish you for defying my instruction.”
“Right. I will accept it reverently.”
Our lips overlapped each other.

The life of the Demon King was a long one. This was because the power of immortality bestowed by the God of Calamity was already incorporated into one of the systems of the world that had no relation to the God of Calamity.
The absence of the God of Calamity in the world will have a profound impact on two things.
The first was that the fuel consumption of skills will deteriorate.
This was due to the fact that the user must now bear the cost of the skills that the God of Calamity used to expend on their behalf.
The other was the loss of the sleep and intake of meals and water of the Demon King, their kin, and their demons.
Again, this was a consequence of the loss of the supply of power from the God of Calamity, but it was not a major concern because it meant they had returned to their original living style of human beings.
In any event, they will spend their lives as they see fit in this world, having children with their loved ones in time, taking on apprentices, passing on their abilities, and imparting their thoughts and feelings to the next generation.
“Speaking of which, Kurokiri…”
“What is it?”
“It’s ready.”
“I see. I’m looking forward to watching it in various ways.”
“Yes.”
Now the destiny was obscured by the black mist, and even if once defined, it can be severed by force.
Therefore, the future of this world now existed with many possibilities.
Who knows what kind of future will be depicted next?

A/N:
The ending is with Ichiko.
This episode marks the end of the four-month-long “The Black Mist that Devours”.
There are many mysteries that have not been revealed, and I might have had an opportunity to unveil those parts apart from the Ichiko route, but, well, it’s a matter of “counting one’s chickens before they’ve hatched,” I guess.
Since I want to concentrate on another work now, I will not write a continuation, but maybe I will write something else in the same worldview to reveal the parts that I could not reveal at this time. I would appreciate your support at that time.

T/N:
Hello, readers. I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I do. I don’t know know if anyone realized but the author planned the MC of this novel to be a trash character, evil, or whatever negative terms you have in mind. I have included the author’s note in the prologue about this, though the author’s message was an implicit one. As the author said, there are a lot of mysteries that are not revealed in this novel such as who resurrected Izumi, why did the Gods abandon this world, the “existence” of Yata of this world with the parallel one, and what Outer World stands for, etc. These are already revealed in the author’s subsequent works. I would just give a brief explanation of what Outer World means, I won’t spoil too much.
Outer World:
There exist a myriad of worlds.
This is a story that takes shape and is told within those myriad worlds, with the same origin.
?Each of these works can be read as a separate work, but they are all connected in some places, so if you have the opportunity, you may find it fascinating to look for the connections between them.
All of the Outer World Story series written by the author have a relationship indirectly with each Outer World Story.
Once again, thanks for reading it. Note: This web novel has been made into a book (not light novel), a revised edition of it under Oakla Publishing in 2014.
There’s only a bonus chapter left in this novel.
Oh, I have started another translation of Outer World Story. Izumi herself will be making an appearance as well. It has a considerable connection to this novel. You can check that out if you’re interested.
There’s also an R-18 version of this novel which is basically just the omitted smut scenes that took place in this novel. You can read the raws here.
https://novel18.syosetu.com/n1909bf/
It is not included in this novel as this is the R-15 version. Though I am not sure if the R-18 is the actual version of this novel since the author’s name is different.
This is a series, not a stand-alone novel which means there will be details that are left obscured in this work and will be explained in future works; the unexplained things are naturally revealed in the subsequent series. and this web novel is released back in 2012. (Yes, 2012, not 2022, so I don’t get why someone saying the MC being a Demon King in Earth is nothing new considering it is written in 2012 or saying confusing things that are not explained should be revealed by the end of this story when this is not a stand-alone novel. A series and a stand-alone novel are two different things. I don’t even read that many novels (actually, none) where the MC is converted to a Demon King in Earth back in those years)
Outer World Story is meant to be thoroughly read in succession actually to understand the settings and so on.
For those who are curious about the mysteries, here is where you can find out about it:
The reason why the Gods abandoned this world and what became of this world/Kurokiri’s world is revealed in the fourth Outer World Story: Basilisk of Ice Sculpture.
What existence does Yata of this world has to do with the Yata of the parallel world is revealed in the second Outer World Story series.
What happened during the course of years in Izumi’s journey who left “White Mist and Black Swamp Forest” and who resurrected her is revealed in the second Outer World Story series, third Outer World Story: Pumpkin Sorcerer, fourth Outer World Story: Basilisk of Ice Sculpture, the fifth and sixth series are probably just a continuation of Izumi’s life afterwards.
The word “Outer World” itself probably makes its first appearance in the third series, otherwise is in the second series. But the details of Outer World actually have a broader explanation that could sum up in three pages or so.
What became of the dead characters of this world is continuously revealed in the third series (like Houki) and subsequent series for other dead characters. Actually, probably the second series too but I think those characters are just isotopes, not the characters that have been revealed from the start. There are a lot of isotope characters in the series.
Those who want direct details of the God of Calamity, read this (The Imitator part), it included all information to date about Licorice in Outer World Story series: Licorice
By the way, the antagonist is not actually an antagonist.
I will also be revising the translation of this novel drastically soon. Even the word “fog” would be changed into “mist”. Many of the terms used would be changed along with the style. Literally a very drastic revision of the translation
Revision completed.
