First Outer World Story Series: The Black Mist that Devours - Chapter 39

“That is quite a commotion.”
“It’s certainly a big fuss.”
“(It’s an uproar.)”
Ichiko and Izumi had returned to “White Mist and Black Swamp Forest”.
After enquiring about the developments going on out there from the Fogs and other kin, I found out that the humans were now at odds with each other, which was split into two factions,
In concrete terms, the two factions were divided into two factions: those who accept the “kin” and those who oppose the “kin”.
The “accepting” faction was dominated by the kin themselves and those who were intimate with them, while the “opposing” faction was centered on the Church of the Righteousness.
However, it was only in this country that the bulk of the population tilted towards the “accepting” side.
It was self-evident what was at the root of this. The three people present here were the ones who initiated the massacre at the Church of the Righteousness. The public, on the other hand, had termed this incident “Purge of the Mist,” and the condemnation of the Church of the Righteousness had grown louder than the criticism leveled at the three of them.
An inspection of the scene after they departed revealed that there was far more devastation than the humans could have anticipated.
They reaped what they sowed.
While on the subject, I would like to send salt[i] to the adversary, this did not imply that the overall Church of the Righteousness was a trash organization of that kind. In truth, those at the headquarters were sincere in their desire to exterminate the Demon Kings and their kin, but this was an organization that believed that in order to do so, it was imperative to provide proper assistance to people.
In other words, the people in this country were just too over the top.
Now, let’s return to the main subject.
Well, as for the “Purge of the Mist,” there was a benefit to doing that.
“Ichiko’s level went up, right?”
“Yes, from 6 to 7.”
“What about Izumi?”
“(4 → 5.)”
“I’ve only leveled up from 3 to 4 with a small margin…”
I likewise had leveled up. To be frank, it had been a couple of months since I last advanced to the next level.
Incidentally, I consulted Help-kun since I was curious about it, and he explained that the difficulty of leveling up would start at around 3 for Demon Kings, 6 for kin, and 10 for humans, and especially for Demon Kings, the amount of experience will become impossible to gain against level 1 humans when the Demon King’s level reaches 7 or higher.
Therefore, it had taken me a long time to level up. Well, I was only willing to reveal my status since Ichiko seemed eager to learn countermeasure skills against me.
Name: Kurokiri (King of the Devouring Black Mist)
Class: Demon King
Race: King of the Devouring Black Mist
≪Dungeon Create≫, ≪Monster Create≫, ≪Devouring Black Mist≫, ≪Circulation≫, ≪Mist Plosion≫, New! ≪Bewitching Mist≫
≪King of the Devouring Black Mist≫, ≪White Mist of Ambush≫, ≪Lord of the Kirijin≫, ≪The Demon King Who Has Looked Outside≫, ≪Demon Slayer≫, ≪The One Who Vanquished the Demon King≫, New! ≪Miracle Deceiver≫, New! ≪King of the Kirijin≫, New! ≪Agitator≫, New! ≪Wordsmith of Sweet Poison≫, New! ≪Purger of the Mist≫
There are so many new titles. I mean, ≪King of the Kirijin≫, ≪Agitator≫, ≪Wordsmith of Sweet Poison≫, and ≪Purger of the Mist≫ make sense to me, but what is ≪Miracle Deceiver≫? Ah, could that be it? Is it the treatment method utilizing ≪Monster Create≫? I don’t recall labeling it as a miracle though. I clearly informed the patients that it would render them human no more.
Well, whatever. Let’s not dwell on it any further.
The new skill, ≪Bewitching Mist≫, was a skill that allowed users to create illusions for living things that were in the mist. The varieties of illusions that could be conjured were unlimited. In other words, the illusion can be created according to the practitioner’s image.
Although the requirement for the employment of ≪Bewitching Mist≫ was the presence of mist, that condition was not a factor in my case. After all, I myself can generate mist anywhere I wanted with the ≪Mist Plosion≫ on top of being a mist.
Heh heh heh heh. This skill is unbelievable.
Oh right, the two of you have also completed your tasks, huh?
“Now, what am I supposed to do?”
“Aren’t you going to construct the fourth level?”
“I will establish that. By the way, the image or rather the concept is to create a capital for the Kirijin, a place where the Kirijin who are in a tight spot in the outside world are accepted.”
“Precisely. Well, for the time being, it will not be necessary.”
That was right. It will not be necessary for the time being. This was another advantage of the “Purge of the Mist,” or rather, it was carried out for this reason, but the tendency for people to needlessly investigate who was a Kirijin was now non-existent. This was because they knew what would follow upon them if they incurred my wrath.
Well, while there were still people who seek to find out, at least there will be no more guys like this time.
“So, that’s fine with me, but what are you guys planning to do?”
“We’re going to head west since it has become difficult for us to operate in this area.”
“To the west… that’s where the ‘Fox City of the Beasts of War’ is located. Be careful with the ‘Hundred Beast Clad Fox Princess,’ okay? You never know where the adversaries are lurking since they don’t have any interaction there. In the worst scenario, you might end up in a war simply for having more kin.”
“(I will protect Ichiko nee-chan.)”
Both of them rose to their feet.
“Well then, you’ll just have to wait and see, Kurokiri.”[ii]
“Not that I have a head to[iii] begin with.”
And the two of them exited the “White Mist and Black Swamp Forest”.
[i] Sending salt to enemy means helping an enemy in distress; by helping the other party in their time of crisis, rather than taking advantage of their weakness, both sides are mutually fighting at 100% of their potential. It’s a noble feat
[ii] The kanji used here is 首を洗って待って which means wash your head/neck and wait for me in a literal term which is a relevant part to iii
[iii] Kurokiri sort of made a joke of it since the kanji used means head
