The Legendary Mechanic in Marvel Universe - Chapter 278
Chapter 278 Finding Kamar-Taj
TL: Kyous
The three of them weaved through the crowded throngs of people, as Leo walked and asked. Half an hour later, they turned into a bustling alley.
They were now very close to their destination.
However, Mary Jane hesitated and asked, “Mr. Erwin, are you sure we haven’t taken a wrong turn?”
She stood behind Peter, shielding herself from the bustling crowd. Then, with a skeptical expression, she discreetly pointed to a person on their right who dressed like a monk.
The person had his eyes closed, one hand held up in front of his face while the other hand fiddled with the prayer beads. Various random portraits hung behind him and a cloud of green smoke rose from the incense burner, creating an air of a swindler-like demeanor. To make the matter worse, passersby actually tossed money into the bowl in front of this monk!
Apart from this particular individual, there were a couple more similarly dressed figures along the alley. Besides, there were also some vendors selling food and trinkets, along with some locals and tourists.
If one were to describe the atmosphere of this place using a single word, it would be messy!
It was understandable that Mary Jane doubted this location. Even Leo began to question if he had misremembered the address given by Otto. But Leo was confident in his memory, and other than that, the sorcerers of the Marvel Universe were always a peculiar group.
The number of their long-ranged spells was either scarce or nonexistent, to the point where they couldn’t conjure a simple fireball or ice arrow. They had no choice but to adopt the ways of melee sorcery. Thus, it was somewhat understandable for them to reside in such a messy place.
With patience, Leo advised the Parkers, “The sorcerers who rescued Dr. Octavius were an eccentric group. Sorcerers, you know, are naturally a bit odd. It’s not surprising that they live here. When we arrive, leave the talking to me. Both of you try not to speak until we meet Dr. Octavois.”
The Parkers quickly nodded, as if conveying, “We’ll follow your lead, Mr. Erwin.”
“221, 222, 223… Found it! This is the place!” Leo stopped in front of a small wooden door. Above the door, a small metal sign hung with the address ‘223, Phyurika Street’ carved on it. This was the place Dr. Octvavius mentioned.
But the door was short and dilapidated, greatly reducing the credibility of it being the Sanctum Sanctorum. Nevertheless, Leo adopted the attitude of ‘it wouldn’t hurt to try’ and knocked on the door.
Knock, knock, knock!
Knock, knock, knock!
Leo knocked repeatedly, about seven or so times, taking a whole five minutes before a young man who appeared to be under thirty opened the door.
Upon opening the door, the young man looked at Leo and the others with a puzzled expression before asking in unpolished English, “Americans, looking for who?”
Slowing down his speech, Leo smiled warmly as he replied, “We’re looking for Otto Octavius. We’re his friends from New York.”
“I don’t know him. You have the wrong place.” This time, the young man’s response was firm and he even spoke English with some fluency. After uttering those words, he made a move to close the door but the door didn’t shut.
Leo had blocked it with his hand and one of his feet had already stepped inside. Initially, he wasn’t sure if he came to the right place but after seeing the young Asian man, he knew he was in the right spot.
Because this young man bore a striking resemblance to the sorcerer with a goatee in “Doctor Strange,” the one who Stephen Strange mistook as the Ancient One and the sorcerer who lost his left hand. Without the goatee, he looked rather young and Leo could barely recognize his face.
As for his name…
Sorry, Leo couldn’t remember it.
The young sorcerer frowned as he failed to close the door and his gaze fell upon Leo’s foot stepping inside. His immediately revealed anger as he was still too young, lacking in both cultivation and composure!
Leo silently sighed and shook his head slightly but he wasn’t here to fight. He was here to visit a friend. So before the young sorcerer could get more upset, he hurriedly expressed, “My apology, Master. We didn’t mean to disrespect you. We truly are Dr. Octavius’ friends and I know that he is here. I’m also aware that it was Master Mordo who took him away from New York. So please, let us see him. His student misses him very much.”
Hearing Leo’s words, the young sorcerer’s face revealed a mix of emotions. But this future amputee sorcerer wasn’t a bad person. After weighing his options for a bit, he coldly said, “I have no authority to allow you to enter. Wait by the door, I’ll inquire.”
With that, the young sorcerer made a motion, signaling to close the door. And this time, Leo didn’t stop him. He released his hand from the door and retracted his foot, letting the door shut smoothly.
Peter obediently followed Leo’s instructions and remained silent, although, for someone as talkative as him, it was quite a hassle for him to be quiet. As soon as the door closed, he couldn’t resist anymore and asked, “What do we do now, Mr. Erwin?”
“We wait,” Leo replied succinctly.
Helplessly sighing, Peter could only stand by the door and wait while grumbling occasionally.
Time passed amidst Peter’s occasional mutters. After around twenty minutes, the sorcerer, whose name Leo couldn’t recall, opened the door once again and made a gesture of invitation.
Leo nodded in gratitude and led the Parkers to step inside. The interior of the building matched the door perfectly, cramped, cluttered, and worn down. Quite different from his impression of the Sanctum Sanctorum.
Of course, the building turned out to be nothing more than a corridor or entrance, leading to the entrance of Kamar-Taj.
Remaining calm, Leo observed the young sorcerer lock the door and waited for him to lead the way. At the end of the corridor, there was a corner, and beyond it was a long hallway, about a meter wide.
Walking through the hallway with the young sorcerer, Leo had a strange sensation as if the space was breaking and rearranging itself.
Subconsciously, he circulated his Mechanical Force, activating Mechanical Force – Insight. In the Mechanical Force Vision, his perception became deeper and clearer. He realized that the place they were crossing wasn’t a normal hallway, but a multi-layered space channel.
Unwilling to draw any attention, he silently switched off his skill while the young sorcerer continued leading the way, oblivious of his subtle actions.
He took a glance at the Parkers and noticed that they were walking alongside him and their expressions were natural, clearly unaware of the occurrence in the hallway.
Although the hallway was long and windy, they eventually reached its end.
Guided by the young sorcerer, they arrived in a tranquil and elegant square-shaped hall. Several long wooden tables were placed in the hall, adorned with incense emitting wisps of green smoke. Sunlight streamed through lattice windows, casting ethereal shadows that added to its charm.
The hall was empty, devoid of anyone else. The young sorcerer gestured towards a row of three seats, indicating for Leo and the Parkers to sit. He then pointed to a teapot and three gleaming copper cups on a nearby table before silently departing without any explanation.
Unfazed, Leo sat on the seats while discreetly using his Mechanical Force – Relay to attempt to contact Steam.
