The Lying Counselor’s Eloquent Reasoning - Chapter 22
“I’m betting Mr. Ishikawa is having a tough time dealing with the sounds coming from around him right now.”
“… Isn’t that awful?”
Now, by the way, this was the Takahiko Uroma Counseling Room. The man in the white coat was speaking to himself, and Tomomi involuntarily said this. The old man who had arrived here yesterday was likely suffering from an overly heightened sense of hearing due to the medicine that Uroma had supplied him with, causing him to hear all the sounds around him at a deafening level. As far as Tomomi was concerned, this was a bit too much. Even though he was an impatient, child-hating, and narrow-minded old man who never listened to anyone, it was still pitiful.
But then Uroma said this.
“Haha, don’t worry, Tomomi. The effect of that medicine I offered to Mr. Ishikawa yesterday will only last for approximately three days at most. After that, everything should start to normalize.”
“Ah, is that so?”
Tomomi was relieved. Despite the temper of the old man, he would be able to manage for three days.
“But if that’s the case, why don’t you give him a proper explanation? That old man is probably very upset right now, isn’t he?”
“Oh dear, I did explain it to him, remember? I told him it was a stimulant.”
“Do you think that was a reasonable explanation?” Tomomi was stunned. Does this man have nothing but bad intentions towards the people who come here?
“Besides, think about it, Tomomi. Even if it’s only for three days, Mr. Ishikawa will be able to hear every sound as a disturbance. When the stormy period is over, how will his sensitivity to the sounds around him have changed?”
“Changed…?”
That was when Tomomi realized what was going on. She thought that this might be Uroma’s way of treating the problem. Yes, after three days of being bombarded by severe noise, people tend to be more or less tolerant of any sound. Especially if the noise is at a level that a regular person would not find disturbing.
“Well, even if the medicine wears off and Mr. Ishikawa’s auditory hyperesthesia persists, he can simply relocate. Or he could change his mind about the children. In the first place, such an option has been provided from the beginning, and yet he is being trivial and obstinate.”
“I guess so…”
Could it be that the stubborn, short-tempered old man was the most appropriate person to deal with this shady, malevolent man right before my eyes? It suddenly occurred to Tomomi. She wondered who this man was, and her suspicions grew even stronger.
Yes, this man has always been exceedingly prepared. In the drawer of the office desk here, somehow there are medicines for the client who had just shown up. Also, this room is odd. The sign on the front door says “Counseling Room,” yet there is too much stuff in here. Ordinarily, a comfortable sofa or a book for the counselor would be expected.
