The Lying Counselor’s Eloquent Reasoning - Chapter 28
That night, Nobuko promptly made dinner using the sugar cubes that Uroma had given her. The menu was meat and potatoes. This was her home cooking. And it was also Naoharu’s favorite dish.
Once she had prepared it in the kitchen at home, she placed it on a tray along with rice and miso soup and soon brought it upstairs to Naoharu’s room. Nobuko’s house was a two-story house and was fairly spacious. Ever since her husband had passed away eighteen years ago, she had been living alone with her son, but her husband’s insurance money, combined with the fact that he was originally a wealthy man, had made it easy for mother and son to have a life together.
When she reached the front of Naoharu’s room, the plates of food she had served for lunch were out in the hallway. All the plates were empty. Nobuko placed the dinner tray next to it and collected it. She then addressed Naoharu in the room and said, “Here’s your dinner, I’ll leave it here”. After a moment, she heard a displeased voice from inside the room and said, “Don’t bother to tell me every little thing like that, it’s so annoying”.
Nobuko returned to the first floor. She wondered whether Naoharu would eat the meat and potatoes. And would it make him change his mind? Inwardly, she felt a slight uneasiness, but eventually, when she headed back upstairs, an empty plate had been put out in the hallway. Thank goodness. Nobuko collected them in a good mood.
Well, the effects won’t manifest themselves in a flash, but it would be nice to see a gradual change for the better…
Nobuko thought so――but of course, the product that Uroma handed her would not have such a gentle effect.
