The Tanaka Family Reincarnates - Chapter 12
Chapter 12 – Even Though It’s a World of Swords and Magic
Emma’s POV
When I headed towards William’s direction with Joshua and George, there was a lot of excitement going on there.
“Does Lady Marina want to become a magician?”
“Yes. I want to know what it feels like to fly with magic!”
Seen through everyone else’s eyes, it certainly appeared to be a pleasant sight, but… seen through Minato’s filter, I couldn’t shake the impression that it was a vagrant with a bearded afro having a friendly chat with a little girl.
That guy… Isn’t he going to get arrested? Here, police!!
“Peita…”
I accidentally called him by the name from his past life. Your older sister couldn’t bear watching this unfold, you know.
“Ah! Emma-sama!”
Lady Marina, who realized we were here, cutely offered a slight bow.
What should I do? She’s a very cute girl, indeed. I couldn’t suppress my gaze full of contempt towards Peita.
“Miss Marina, let’s eat cakes together.”
I quietly separated Lady Marina from Peita.
Joshua offered the chocolate cake to Lady Marina.
“It’s delicious! The chocolate used is excellent!”
While savoring the cake with Lady Marina, who appreciated good food, I tried to ask her what she had been doing with William in case he had made any blunders.
“I was talking about this book with William-sama. It’s about magicians.”
That said, the book she showed me was a little too thick for a 6-year-old child. It was a record of the Great Magician Connie.
It was a biography of this country’s most famous historical figure, chronicling the story of the Great Magician Connie Moo’s journey to the Eastern Wilderness to defeat a dragon.
That’s right… a biography.
This was the real thrill of reincarnation to another world, being in a world of swords and magic.
It was a world of swords and magic, but… there were very few people who could use magic. Barely one person in a whole country, in fact.
The rarity was the same everywhere. Naturally, there had been no one with the ability in the Stuart family for generations.
I thought that the reincarnation might have granted us cheats and that I could use magic, but even after much trial and error, I didn’t feel any magical power at all.
I even shouted out the well-known ‘fireball’ and the venerable kameh*meha, but instead of getting a reaction, all I got was tormented by shame.
“By the way, there are rumors that, as there have been no magicians in this country for 30 years, one is about to appear.”
Joshua knew about many rumors since he often traveled around the country with his father.
“Really?!”
Lady Marina got absorbed immediately.
“Yes. The monsters have been active recently, and there are not enough hunters, so the number of feudal lords requesting the dispatch of knights is increasing. The fact that monsters are active means that the magical power in the atmosphere is getting stronger, and because of that, there’s a possibility that transformations can occur.”
Magicians are not born magicians, rather they are suddenly transformed into magicians.
“Certainly, I feel that there have been many monsters recently. There are many hunters within our territory, so we held them off somehow, but it’s probably just as terrible in other territories.”
My older brother George often went hunting for monsters with my father, Leonard. Monster hunting is the main job of a borderland’s lord. It also prevents the monsters from encroaching into the citizens’ sphere of activity.
The countries in this world use magician’s barriers to prevent monster invasion. However, the effect weakens as time goes by. In the past 10 years, there have been strong monsters that accidentally break through the barrier. In those situations, there is no choice but a head-on fight.
“I want a magician to appear nonetheless.”
Lady Marina said anxiously. Because she lived in a borderland, even if she was still a child, there’s no way she could ignore the threat of monsters.
Particularly in Palace, which is a borderland in a remote region facing the barrier.
“Well, it’s okay because I will protect you while you are in our territory, Lady Marina.”
George said kindly while patting Lady Marina’s head.
“George-sama, you are so cool!”
Lady Marina’s eyes became heart-shaped.
“Bro…”
William glared resentfully at George.
I remembered that Older Brother had always been popular with kids.
I comforted Peita, called William, whose shoulders slumped after seeing George capture Lady Marina in an instant, with a voice that only he could hear.
“…even though you were a wizard[1] in our past life. What a shame, Peita.”
[T/N 1: Wizard is also slang in Japanese for men over 30 years old who are still virgins.]
???
Author’s note: It’s not comforting. It’s rubbing salt on the wound.
