The Tanaka Family Reincarnates - Chapter 389
The Monster’s True Form [Part 2]
Second Prince Edward’s childhood friend and guard, Arthur, looked at his surroundings and forced a smile. As far as he could see, almost everything was engulfed in flames. Even if no monsters were in sight, this place had already become as dangerous as a battlefield.
Lady Francesca and the twins’ guardians’ quick-witted decision to leave as soon as possible was a blessing in disguise. Because this situation was by means, not one a young lady not used to fighting could endure.
Arthur checked the conditions of the young ladies who unluckily stayed behind, his younger sister Marion and Emma, worriedly. However, Marion, taking little notice of Arthur’s worries, didn’t appear to be scared at all, although she indeed looked a little tense. You could say it was expected of someone aiming to be a knight as a woman.
‘While she’s my younger sister, I have to say that she’s truly impressive.
Then how about Emma-chan…? Mm.
She’s… fully enjoying the huge cat’s furry chest.
Perhaps because she grew up in the borderland Palace where monster appearances are a normal occurrence, she has the composure and nerve unthinkable for a thirteen-year-old young lady to have.
It’s not my place to whine when the ladies stay strong, is it…’ Arthur focused his mind.
However, not a few knights became anxious upon seeing the shocked state of the Lord of Skyte and the hunters.
“…so, how can we defeat that?”
*silence* …as the surroundings turned quiet, the King spoke.
The fire pillar thought to be the main body of the Fire Fox had approached so close that the King could point at [that] with his eyes.
The King’s unbelievably calm voice, which seemed out of place in such a situation, sounded powerful and belligerent. It was overflowing with majesty befitting a king of a country.
“Your Majesty… at present, there’s only one known way to defeat Fire Foxes.”
The Monster Science teacher lowered his eyes as if trying to escape the King’s gaze.
“Ohh! There is one, huh? So, that method is?”
The King’s expression brightened when hearing there was a way to defeat Fire Foxes, unlike slimes whose defeating method was unknown. In contrast, William, Arban, and Melsa drooped their heads while thinking, ‘Sure enough…’ when the professor said only one method existed.
There was only one established way to defeat Fire Foxes. And that was…
“It’s… magic.”
“Huh?”
“You can be immune to fear with magic.”
In the Northern Continent, Firefoxes were a hazardous monster that could destroy a country, equivalent to slimes. The Empire, located in the Northern Continent, could preserve itself largely due to the existence of magicians. Countermeasures against monsters were also a major factor in why they gathered magicians from other countries, even using tyrannous methods.
If one had no fear, one would not be afraid of Firefoxes. However, there were no truly fearless humans in this world. Unless one used magic.
What could be said to be the only method to defeat Firefoxes could not be applied in the Kingdom where magicians were nonexistent.
“…Does that mean there’s nothing we can do in our country?”
Prince Edward couldn’t help but speak out at the Monster Science teacher’s words. The prince understood fully from the local barrier hazard that following the correct method established by accumulated knowledge and experience was more important than anything in defeating monsters.
…and he also knew well the horror of not being able to use the correct method that became the guideline.
‘What a terrifying situation we find ourselves in…’ the prince grimaced.
“Pfft. It’s fine! Calm down, Edward. This is good news!”
The king tried to lift the prince’s spirit when he saw the obvious shock on his son’s face. The king was laughing.
“Huh? What do you mean, Your Majesty?”
“You heard it, right? You can defeat it as long as you’re not afraid. We can overcome that kind of thing with our fighting spirit, even without relying on magic and the like. You mustn’t forget that the knights and hunters gathered here are the cream of the crop, our Kingdom’s prides.”
“Our Kingdom’s knights and hunters will never succumb to such a monster.” the King declared loudly, his words full of confidence.
“I trust myself, our knights, and our hunters,” the King laughed.
“T-That’s right.”
“Y-Yeah. Something like this won’t shake us up unless we have a trauma of fire.”
“Our body is not the only thing we’ve been training every day!”
‘Even without relying on magic like the Empire, our Kingdom’s knights and hunters possess thoroughly trained muscles and tenacious mental strength. We wouldn’t be seized with fear, unlike those wimpy Imperials.’ The knights found hope in the King’s gallant figure.
