The Tanaka Family Reincarnates - Chapter 5
Chapter 5 – The Tanaka Family, Whole Family Reincarnation Confirmed
Minato/Emma’s POV
Eventually, the whole family gathered during dinner. Father and Older Brother had spent the day hunting, while Mother had attended a tea party.
It seemed that, until Emma’s condition showed improvement, everyone had put their work and social activities aside in order to take turns nursing her.
My heartfelt apologies for troubling everyone.
Well, they called it a tea party, but the one Mother attended was more like a comfortable gathering compared to the tea parties at the royal capital.
And now… more importantly…
It’s unusually quiet at the dining table.
The father who usually fusses over his daughter, lost in thought.
The mother who usually showers her youngest son with love, lost in thought.
The eldest son who is usually affectionate with his siblings, lost in thought.
Nobody spoke a word, and as for William, he was waiting to see what my next move would be.
Although I, Emma, who had taken 10 days to recover, was finally there, after some small talk before the meal when they casually asked ‘Are you well?’, no further words were exchanged.
I remember having been raised with love, so I suppose I would call the present situation slightly abnormal.
Even George-nii-sama, who would usually give me his share of pudding, was silently eating it instead.
The servants didn’t show it on their faces, but they, too, served us anxiously.
Did this mean that they were all confused about the reincarnation?
It would’ve been troublesome to visit their room one by one to confirm it after dinner. I expected various explanations and discussions, and wanted to settle them all at once.
Since my family and servants seemed to be used to Emma’s eccentric behavior, perhaps I should take the plunge and confirm it right now…
*Rattle*
I stood up abruptly and took a deep breath.
The whole family gathered their attention on Emma.
I shouted, not in this world’s language, but in Japanese, “TANAKA FAMILY-! ROLLCALL-! ORDER-!”
Immediately after, my father Leonard said,
“O-ONE!,” saluting as he stood up.
“TWO-O!, ” said my mother Melsa, saluting as she stood up.
“THREE-E,” said my older brother George, saluting as he stood up.
“DAAAA,” said Younger Brother and I, as we raised our fists.
Call it a roll-call or whatever, but it was an old ritual established in the Tanaka family, used to confirm our headcount when we would go on trips.
After we grew up, the family stopped going on trips. Instead, sometimes when we got drunk, one of us would start it and make everyone laugh. It’s the kind of thing we would be super embarrassed to even show it to anyone outside the family.
Basically, the body would react instinctively before you could think. …if you were a member of the Tanaka family.
Usually, we would no doubt be laughing about it, but this time, everyone just stared blankly… It was to be expected, since they only did it reflexively. Although William didn’t particularly have to do it, he could not help doing the ‘DAAAA’ automatically .
“Gather at Emma’s shed in 20 minutes,” I added, in Japanese. At that, the three widened their eyes and nodded along.
I turned around and returned to my room. I was prepared for it, but the stares from the servants still made me uncomfortable. I had to escape quickly, before Martha scolded me.
“Aiiii Young Lady! You shouldn’t run in the corridor!”
In the end, I was scolded anyway…
It would have been fine to give our responses normally in Japanese, as I told William later, but that ‘DAAAA’ ritual was proof that we were definitely without a doubt members of the Tanaka family.
As a precaution, it was important for me to know for sure that everyone was truly a Tanaka before I could trust them.
That was my plan all along, of course, yes…
