Chapter 22: Tunnel Terror (Part 2)

“Young lady, I’m getting out of the car.”

Chu Ci stood up, gracefully moving to the car door. The surrounding ghosts huddled together, afraid to touch this terrifying presence.

“Is what Dr. Chu mentioned about supplies here?” Qing Li suddenly showed interest.

Chu Ci smiled faintly and said, “There are many corpses here, convenient for my experiments.”

Upon hearing this, Qing Li caressed the steering wheel with her fingers. If she let Chu Ci leave and continued driving ahead on her own, there could be many unknown troubles up ahead.

It might be better to get out of the car with Chu Ci and see what exactly this tunnel concealed.

After making up her mind, Qing Li smiled slightly, “So, Dr. Chu is contributing to our hospital. How can I, as the hospital’s owner, stand by and do nothing?”

She stepped on the brake and brought the bus to a stop.

Instantly, silence fell upon the tunnel.

Chu Ci didn’t refuse; he tossed a flashlight to Qing Li and was the first to get off the bus.

Qing Li followed him and, before getting off, she pasted a talisman on the bus to prevent things from outside coming in.

Although these three teammates couldn’t help much, she wasn’t someone who disregarded life.

Of course, if they woke up from their unconscious state and got off the bus, whatever happened would be their own fate!

Jumping off the bus, the damp and foul smell in the tunnel became even stronger. The flashlight’s beam swept across the ground, and some damp insects quickly crawled on the old asphalt road, then disappeared into the cracks in the pavement in the blink of an eye.

“Crack—”

A crisp sound echoed in the dim tunnel.

Qing Li shone her flashlight over and found herself stepping on a bloody bone.

The bone still had bits of flesh on it, and with the light closer, she could see many small bite marks. Judging by the size of the bone, it was an adult male leg bone, and judging by the extent of the flesh’s decay, it had been dead for about two days.

Qing Li continued to move forward and found more bones—hand bones, rib bones, and finally, a bloodied and mangled head.

Countless insects were crawling around inside the head, gnawing at the flesh.

[“This man looks familiar!”]

A comment in the live chat caught Qing Li’s attention.

[“This man seems to be a player from the live chat too. Even though his face has been chewed up by the bugs, you can still recognize what’s left of his skin. I remember his name is Huang Jun, ranked number 18.”]

[“Wow, the 18th-ranked player died so horribly! Be careful, little village girl!”]

[“Huang Jun went missing after the last mission, and the audience didn’t know what happened. I didn’t expect to find his body here.”]

“Be careful; some of the bugs here are poisonous.”

Chu Ci saw that Qing Li’s gaze was fixed on a severed head and walked over, casually pinching a small flying insect crawling on Qing Li’s clothes.

With a slight pressure on his fingertips, the flying insect was crushed to death. The scales on its wings stained his fair hands. He took out a handkerchief, wiped his hands leisurely, and then casually threw the handkerchief on the ground.

The pure white handkerchief fell on the blood-stained road, and Chu Ci stepped on it as he continued walking forward.

Qing Li glanced again at the gruesome severed head, shrugged, and followed behind Chu Ci.

“Swoosh—”

A black shadow quickly flashed by. Qing Li tightened her grip on the flashlight and shone it in that direction but saw nothing.

In the eerie atmosphere and the darkness, fear was easily bred.

The two continued to walk deeper into the tunnel, and there were more and more bones on the ground, some human and some animal.

“Hush—”

Chu Ci suddenly stopped, pressing his index finger against the middle of his lips. His narrow eyes carried a hint of inexplicable interest. Qing Li stood by his side and faintly smelled the scent of disinfectant alcohol on him, which was much more pleasant than the foul odor in the tunnel.

The flashlight’s beam illuminated a two-meter-wide opening on one side of the tunnel, with scattered pieces of rubble around it.

Pinching her nose, Qing Li felt a bit disgusted because the odor from inside the opening was unbearable, like a corpse fermenting and rotting in a dung pit, a combination of two unpleasant odors.

She unconsciously moved closer to Chu Ci and took in the scent of disinfectant alcohol on him, making her face look less unpleasant.

Seeing Chu Ci’s unchanged expression, Qing Li couldn’t help but ask curiously, “Dr. Chu, aren’t you bothered by this foul smell?”

Chu Ci smiled slightly and said, “I’ve already had my olfactory nerves removed in advance. I can’t smell anything now.”

Qing Li’s hair on her head stood still, surprised by Chu Ci’s ruthless methods, as he had actually removed his olfactory nerves.

This was like giving himself a superpower!

“If you find the smell here too unpleasant, I can also remove your olfactory nerves for you,” Chu Ci suddenly produced a surgical knife in his other hand, and the sharp blade gleamed coldly.

Knowing Qing Li’s nature, he added, “It’s free.”

Qing Li rolled her eyes. Did he think she was the type of person who would take advantage of anything if it was free?

“Doctor Chu, I feel like you have a misunderstanding about my character,” Qing Li said discontentedly.

?Surprising, can a village girl even have character??

?What’s the misunderstanding? Isn’t the country girl the type to be greedy for money??

?The misunderstanding is huge. Doctor Chu shouldn’t say it’s free but rather ‘no need for a single penny,’ and even offer ten million as a bonus. That would be a true understanding of the village girl.?

?The comment above woke up the dreamer.?

?As everyone knows, the village girl is not a human, so character is not a thing for her.?

The bullet comments in the live stream were lively. Suddenly, the screen flickered, and it seemed that there was a problem with the flashlight in Qing Li’s hand. It kept turning on and off.

“Swoosh—”

That sound again.

The stagnant air in the tunnel was disturbed, and Qing Li felt the change in the wind speed. Without hesitation, she threw several talismans.

The talismans burned, and several crimson flames soared into the air, dispelling the darkness around. Only then did the audience in the live stream room see clearly—hanging densely at the top of the tunnel were numerous human figures. Their bloodshot eyes reflected the firelight, all staring fixedly at Qing Li and Chu Ci.

Outnumbered and facing the enemy, Qing Li silently took a step back and stood by Chu Ci’s side.

“Doctor Chu, didn’t you want to restock? Go ahead! I’ll cheer for you from behind!” She smiled innocently, looking at Chu Ci.

Chu Ci also smiled and said softly, “Manager Qing Li, you said I was contributing to the hospital. As the boss, how can you stand by and do nothing?”

“Of course, I won’t sit idly by, so now… I’m just standing here!” Qing Li said with a mischievous smile.

Chu Ci: “…”

[“As the saying goes, ‘If a person has no shame, a tree has no bark.’ If you have no shame, you can conquer the world.”]

[“I used to think that the village girl was just thick-skinned, but now I realize that she is simply shameless.”]

[“Those who achieve great things don’t sweat the small stuff, so what’s wrong with being shameless?”]

[“Turning a blind eye is not right, so I choose to stand up.”]

This is it for today, see you on Friday!
