Chapter 30: The Mysterious Hotel Front Desk

Zhou Ya’s expression froze awkwardly as she said, “A couple of days ago at the hospital, my companion and I were attacked by a ghostly entity. You allowed us to enter the operating room and saved us.”

“Oh, is that so?” Chu Ci responded indifferently.

Zhou Ya knew that Chu Ci remembered, but in his eyes, she was just an insignificant person.

Wen Yi’s gaze shifted between Zhou Ya and Chu Ci. His eyes narrowed; this man’s sudden appearance was too unexpected, throwing his plans out of control.

“Zhou Ya, since you know each other, would you mind introducing us?” Wen Yi asked with a smile.

“Of course, but we’ve been standing at the hotel entrance for a while now. If Mr. Wen wants to know, we can talk about it after we return to our rooms,” Zhou Ya said, tidying up the fine hair beside her ear. She wasn’t a foolish woman. Though not outstanding in appearance, she was intelligent.

Since Wen Yi wanted to use her, she decided to gain some benefits as well.

“Of course, that’s fine,” Wen Yi replied with a smile.

Rainbow-haired Ma Yue, without any teammates, became anxious. “What about me?”

“Here, take this.” Wen Yi pushed Huang Lina, who was beside him, towards Ma Yue.

Huang Lina’s eyes widened in disbelief at being so easily discarded.

Ma Yue immediately grinned. “Thanks, big shot.”

At that moment, each player had their own schemes, and their unity was falling apart.

In the hotel lobby, a layer of dust covered the broken crystal chandelier, emitting a dim, gloomy light. Despite it being daylight, the atmosphere felt murky and dark. Spider webs filled the corners, and a moth with broken wings fell into a spider’s trap, drained of blood and left as an empty shell.

“Welcome, dear guests,” a hoarse, dry voice came from the front desk as the players entered the lobby.

The woman in the uniform was pale, with a signature smile on her lips, her eyes fixed on the players.

[I can’t tell if it’s just me, but this woman’s smile seems very eerie.]

[None of the NPCs in the Thrilling Live Room are normal. They’re either ghosts or psychopaths.]

[Her smile is so fake. It’s all on the surface.]

[She’s so pretty and well-shaped, but her voice is as unpleasant as an old woman’s. It would scare someone witless in the dark.]

“Hello, we would like to check into the hotel. Please open four rooms for us,” Wen Yi spoke.

“Please—wait—a—moment, esteemed—guests.”

The eerie receptionist nodded woodenly, the fluorescent glow of the computer screen illuminating her face with a faint greenish hue. She raised her hand to start entering the check-in information.

Qing Li stood aside, noticing from her angle that the receptionist’s hands were like dried tree bark, covered with brown spots resembling mottling on a corpse.

She sniffed, but did not detect the smell of decaying flesh.

“Sorry—to—keep—you—waiting. Your—rooms—are—now—ready. We—wish—you—a—pleasant—stay.”

The receptionist took out four room cards and placed them on the counter.

Her smile remained fixed, even her eyes never blinked, like a puppet being controlled, unable to express anything else.

Qing Li placed her hand on the room card. A wisp of Yin energy dissipated from her fingertips, revealing the room number 404 printed on the card, with a painting of a beautiful woman on the back.

The woman in the painting was sitting in an antique room, dressing herself in front of a mirror. She was stunningly beautiful, with her partially exposed shoulders, a long and slender neck, slightly curved red lips, and almond-shaped eyes that were silk-like, gazing at you as if she were a living beauty.

The room numbers for Wen Yi and Zhou Ya were 301.

Chen Dali and Wang Tingting’s room number was 502.

Ma Yue and Huang Lina’s room was next to Qing Li’s, number 403.

“Guests, please don’t lose your room cards. You’ll need them when checking out.”

This time, the receptionist spoke briskly, a deep meaning flickering in her dark eyes.

“Can I change rooms, please? I want to move next to room 301,” said Chen Dalei, his wrist in a cast.

He now had one useless arm and was accompanied by a woman who was a burden, which made him feel uneasy. He wanted to stay next to Wen Yi in case of emergencies so he could call for help quickly.

“Sorry, unless there’s a problem with the room, we can’t change it,” the receptionist replied in her slow drawl.

Chen Dalei’s face darkened as he reluctantly took back his room card.

As they prepared to go upstairs, the receptionist smiled and reminded them, “Guests, the elevator is broken. Please use the stairs.”

Next to the elevator, the dim corridor lights flickered, and a layer of dust lay on the stairs. On closer inspection, there were faint footprints above the dust.

“Okay, thank you for the reminder,” Wen Yi said to the receptionist with a charming smile.

The receptionist turned her head away, and if anyone looked closely, they would notice that only her head moved while her neck remained still.

“That receptionist is really weird, especially her smile. It looks like she’s wearing a human skin mask,” one of them commented.

In the room, Ma Yue spoke in a low voice, sharing his opinion first.

“Once you’re back in your rooms, rest well. No matter what happens, do not leave your room,” Wen Yi instructed.

Wang Tingting raised her eyebrows, “Mr. Wen, did you notice something?”

Wen Yi shook his head, “I haven’t noticed anything unusual, but I’ve read some horror stories about hotels. The first rule is never to leave your room because once you step out, you might enter another world.”

His words sent a chill down everyone’s spine.

“Qing Li, have you noticed anything?” Wen Yi asked, turning to Qing Li.

Qing Li frowned, growing impatient with this man who kept cueing her.

“The receptionist spoke slowly but only spoke at a normal pace for two sentences,” Qing Li noted.

“Which two sentences?” asked Chen Dalei, realizing later.

Huang Lina shivered as she spoke, “Don’t lose your room card, and use the stairs because the elevator is broken.”

Room card, elevator.

These are two keywords.

The crowd turned their gaze to the room card in their hands, but apart from the beautiful picture of a woman, there was nothing unusual.

Ma Yue was fascinated, whispering, “The woman in this picture is so beautiful, even more so than a big star. If I could spend a night with her, even dying would be worth it.”

“Hehe.”

A woman’s light laughter reached Ma Yue’s ears.

“Who?”

Ma Yue’s scalp tingled, and he shouted out loud.

“What happened?” Everyone looked at Ma Yue, who suddenly yelled.

Ma Yue’s face looked terrible. He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and said with fear, “I heard a woman’s laughter.”

“But we didn’t hear anything!” Wang Tingting looked at him.

Ma Yue shuddered, realizing that only he had heard it… Did that mean he was the first to be targeted by a ghost!
