- Volume 1 Chapter 7.2
“Did you say you’re an enforcer from the Sacred Cult Organization…? It’s not like you would even be a nuisance to me, Khuzan and my Balthazar.”
Mockingly laughing, the Malevolent Armor Balthazar began to levitate. After confirming the presence of the target while clearing the rising smoke with his scythe, Khuzan aimed at the teleportation gate that was about to close.
“Oh, are you going to run away? I won’t let you.”
“What!?”
Lisa’s voice echoed from behind the smoke curtain, and Karin’s magical shotgun reached Balthazar’s body as he turned around.
“Ha, you can’t kill me.”
Balthazar created countless spears of flames and shot them at Karin. The flames exploded into sparks, and a burst pierced through the air.
“No matter how many times you come, it will always be the same.” Khuzan turned his back and flew towards the teleportation gate, but as if he had second thoughts, he stopped flapping his wings and stood on the debris of the old castle, waiting for the smoke from the explosion to dissipate. “Hou. You turned out to be quite stubborn.”
“I was going for your back this time, too bad.”
A strong wind blew, scattering black smoke. Karin emerged from the smoke, unbuttoned her coat, and slowly lowered the magical shotgun she had aimed at Balthazar.
“Are you unharmed…? What the hell is going on…? Was it some kind of magic barrier?”
“And what if it was?”
“That’s absurd! I’ve never heard of a barrier that can be mounted on such a small mecha!”
“That doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. We can try again if you want.”
She looked at Balthazar, who was atop the old castle in ruins, challenging him, and asked.
“A contraption like yours will soon crumble.”
“Oh, what a pity. Are you tired already? Well then, let the demolition show begin!”
“Demolition show? I, Khuzan, will personally cut you to pieces.” Khuzan sneered while swinging his scythe into the void.
“It’s not even worth defending against that kind of attack, is it? Or are you trying to intimidate me?”
“You’re just wasting your breath!” Khuzan brandished his scythe and materialized a spear of fire. After quickly jumping left and right to avoid the attack, Lisa glanced at the teleportation gate, which was tightly closed so that Balthazar’s mech couldn’t pass, and smiled.
“Did you say Khuzan or something…? Maybe it’s time for you to see an attack instead of just defense. The teleportation gate was almost closed already.”
In response to Lisa’s challenge, Khuzan laughed loudly and took off from the debris of the old castle, landing within reach of Karin. The teleportation gate closed, and the remaining magic circle vanished into the void.
“You have no escape now. Will you be okay?”
“It’s not a big deal. After defeating you, I can gather more humans again.” Khuzan, with no retreat left, replied while brandishing his scythe.
“Let’s see if you can!”
Karin threw her cape at Balthazar and, without hesitation, slashed at him.
“So slow!”
Flapping his wings, Balthazar jumped backward, creating distance and skillfully maneuvering his scythe to repel Karin’s longsword.
“…Kuh!”
Karin, pushed by the force of the scythe, crashed into the ruins of the gate of the old castle. The impact on Karin also transmitted to the control cabin, shaking it violently, but Lisa held tightly to her crystal ball, and with all her strength in her legs, she endured.
“You don’t have time to rest!”
“Ahh!”
Countless jet-black flames appeared around the scythe Balthazar held. The flames abruptly changed shape and rained down on Karin like arrows.
“Did you think I could only use a spear?”
“This time they surpasses me in number!?” She stepped back, gaining distance, and cut the arrows with her longsword. The arrows raining one after another on Karin followed her, colliding with her body and sparking.
“How persistent!”
While evading the pursuit of the fiery arrows, Karin skillfully deflected them with her longsword and magical shotgun. However, when Lisa became distracted by the flaming arrows, she realized that Balthazar had disappeared from her sight and gasped.
“Where are you…”
“I’ve got you!”
“Darn it!”
Balthazar’s scythe sliced through Karin’s flying armor.
“Haah!”
“What!?”
Quickly, fox fires impacted Balthazar’s face and scythe, taking advantage of the surprise caused by the shout. Lisa rolled away from Balthazar, not even having time to see her opponent.
“I didn’t know you could find a way to evade my attack instantly… so I see you’re not just barking.”
“Is that all you have to say?” As soon as she regained her stance, she ran up the castle walls and glanced at Balthazar.
“What is that…?!” Balthazar’s scythe, which had taken a direct hit from the fox fire, had the blade slightly chipped. Khuzan, checking the state of the scythe with his mechanical fingers, angrily thrust the scythe’s handle into the ground.
“That scythe you’re so proud of quickly lost its edge, didn’t it? Is the demolition show over?”
“Haha, you make me laugh! I don’t defend myself with slashes alone.” Balthazar readjusted his scythe and began to spin the handle above his head, creating a whirlwind.
The roar of the whirlwind transformed into a sharp blade and surrounded Karin in the blink of an eye.
“That seems like it!” Karin jumped and escaped the wind blades towards the sky.
“After the demolition show, we play tag, huh?”
Lisa didn’t answer as she taunted Khuzan.
“Or are you going to start playing hide and seek?”
Karin leaped over the castle wall, trampling the deserted garden as she maneuvered through the ruins of the old castle, landing in a small space that seemed to be among the ancient buildings.
“Do you think you’ll hide like this?”
As if to betray Karin’s presence, Balthazar’s fierce slashes rained down from above her head.
