Transmigrated Farmgirl's Scheme to Get Rich - Chapter 183
Managerial Dispute
Zhong Cheng hadn’t returned from importing materials from the Upper Valley, so Chi Jie asked Mo Ling to help cut the materials to size, stacking the textiles and distributing them to the villagers so they could work on them at home.
Mo Ling had just started working when Xiuying went over to the workshop to work. Mo Yan was confused, and asked, “Sister Xiuying, why are you still going to the workshop to work? Shouldn’t you be teaching the villagers?”
Xiuying went to fix her hair buns, but they were already perfectly neat, without a single strand of hair out of place.
“My skills aren’t as good as Xiaoyue, so I’m worried I might not be able to teach the villagers well. It’d be better if I just worked at the workshop on my own.”
Xiuying had just come into the workshop when Dagan also entered. He normally moved materials around the workshop and brushed tung oil on products. Needlework could be done at the villagers’ own homes, but Dagan’s job had to be done at the workshop, which is why he came in.
“Brother Dagan, when the workshop gets busier in the future, you’ll have to help out as much as you can with delivering the villagers’ completed products back to the workshop and brushing tung oil on them. Of course, with your increased workload, your salary will increase as well.”
Dagan smiled foolishly, “I’ll do my best!”
Mo Yan wanted to go out to the commercial firm to see if everything was running smoothly, but encountered Ms. Liang and Mrs. Liu walking over to the workshop together. They were normally at loggerheads, so why are they walking together now?
When she saw Mo Yan, Ms. Liang called out, “Yan’er, wait.”
“Mother, it’s not a market day today, why are you in town?”
The two looked both ways, and crossed the road after seeing no carriages in either directly. Ms. Liang coughed lightly after walking over so quickly.
Ms. Liu said, “Yan’er, the only person teaching the villagers how to make the products is Xiaoyue. Her house is filled with villagers, so we can’t see anything, and it’d take forever for us to learn, so we decided to come to the workshop to learn!”
“Aren’t there other people who already know how to do this work in the village? Why not learn from them instead?”
“They all shut themselves into their families to teach their family members, how could we manage to learn from them?”
“Alright, let’s go to the workshop then.”
Mo Yan took them to the workshop, and when Xiuying saw Ms. Liang, she instantly got up to greet her, and said timidly, “Auntie, you’ve come!”
Mrs. Liu’s mouth was too quick to be stopped, “Isn’t Xiuying your unwed daughter-in-law? How about we let her teach us!”
Xiuying hurriedly asked them to take a seat, and then grabbed the materials she was currently working on to teach them.
“Then mother, start learning from Xiuying. I’m going to the commercial firm to take a look.”
Mo Yan was about to leave when Mrs. Liu stopped her, “Yan’er, how about Xiuying stop going to the workshop and start teaching us in the village? That way, everyone will benefit.”
Mo Yan silently sighed, “That requires Sister Xiuying to agree to it.”
Xiuying stood up, still with that same timid expression on her face, “It’s my honour for Auntie and Mrs. Liu to be willing to learn from me, but I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to teach the two of you adequately.”
Mrs. Liu said, “Just teach us what you’re supposed to do, what’s so difficult about that?”
Ms. Liang echoed her in agreement, “Yeah! We can just learn from you while you work from the side, it’s not like we’ve never learnt needlework before.”
“Xiaoyue is a manager of the workshop, so she has authority over this. What am I compared to her, I don’t have authority over this.”
She finally revealed her true motives, and successfully used Ms. Liang as a puppet. Ms. Liang said, “That Xiaoyue is just a wallflower, do you really think she can be a manager? How about you let Xiuying be a manager instead.”
Mrs. Liu also said, “That’s right! Nutrients shouldn’t enter other people’s fields, and you’re going to be part of the same family in the future anyways.”
Dagan had just come in, and when he heard their words, started to help defend Xiaoyue, “Xiaoyue just doesn’t talk much, but she’s the best worker in the entire workshop. Not only that, but she’s also good at applying her skills at different situations, and doesn’t just repeat the same trick over and over again. I think she’s by far the best-suited for the manager position.”
Xiuying secretly gave him the side-eye, and she started to grit her teeth, but still wore a smile on her face, “But she’s the daughter of governing official Wu! Many people in the village must worry about her!”
However, her words gave Ms. Liang a mental shock. If Mo Feng wasn’t so insistent on marrying Xiuying, Xiaoyue would’ve been a good candidate as well. She was also gentle, and if she married into the family, she would have the final say in everything. Xiaoyue would be much easier to reason with than Xiuying. Besides, governing official Wu was a level-headed person and also the governing official of the village, so this marriage would be considered respectable as well. However, it was too late now!
Mo Yan slowly said, “Sister Xiaoyue is indeed unable to teach so many people, Sister Xiuying, you should help out a little. So long as everyone knows what to do, then it’s all good.”
Xiuying continued to speak, “If both you and Auntie say so, then I’ll help teach a few.”
Ms. Liang and Mrs. Liu hurriedly spoke, “Good, then we’ll learn from you.”
“Alright, then I’ll bring some of my work back today, and teach you at Auntie’s house tomorrow, so you won’t have to come all the way over here.”
The Auntie she was referring to was Ms. Liang.
Mrs. Liu kept praising Xiuying for knowing how to work at the side, and lamented her son’s lack of fortune for not being able to find such a good wife.
Ms. Liang had her own thoughts about the matter, but didn’t want to lose face in front of outsiders so could only say, “That’s right, my Feng’er has really good taste.”
Mo Yan didn’t want to get further caught up in their business, so went out to the firm.
In the evening, when the workshop was about to close for the day, Zhong Cheng’s carriage returned from the Upper Valley.
Dagan and two other workers went out to help unload the carriages, and when all of it was down, the sky had already turned dark. Mo Yan beckoned them over and said, “You’ve worked hard. We’ve documented your overtime hours in the account book, and you’ll get a bonus at the end of the month when we hand out the salaries.”
Zhong Cheng sat on the carriage and was about to depart when he turned his head to see Mo Ling smiling at him brightly. He rubbed his eyes and said joyfully, “It’s really you! I thought I had been hallucinating!”
Mo Ling went over to wipe the sweat off his brow with her sleeve, “You must’ve rushed all the way back here! You’ve worked hard!”
Zhong Cheng smiled, “It’s not too tiring. I’ll go back first!”
Mo Ling said, “Now the imports have come to the workshop, the workshop will definitely be very busy these days, and I want to stay and help out.”
“Then you’ll have to come back tomorrow, it’s already dark outside.”
“It’s such a long journey, I don’t want to go there and back.”
Zhong Cheng still wanted to persuade Mo Ling to return home, and Mo Yan asked, “Brother-in-law, how’s the divider courtyard wall coming along?”
When she mentioned this again, he shook his head, “It’s already been built, but it hasn’t dried yet.”
“Then you should finish it in these few days, and then return to pick up Sis.”
Ms. Hua went over to tug on Mo Yan’s sleeve, “They’re newlyweds, and it’s bad luck for newlyweds to have an empty bedroom.”
Zhong Cheng laughed, “That’s what everyone of the younger generation says.”
Mo Yan pouted without saying anything, and Zhong Cheng wiped the sweat off his brow, “Yan’er, don’t worry, I’ll definitely finish the courtyard wall as soon as possible, and I’ll send Mo Ling back over tomorrow. I won’t delay in either of these things.”
Mo Ling didn’t say anything, implicitly agreeing to return.
“Since the road is still quite far, Sis, you should only come if you want to come, and should give it a miss if you’re tired. It’s fine if you’re not here, we have other workers to pick up the slack too.”
Mo Ling got onto Zhong Cheng’s carriage, and sat next to him, “Then Yan’er, I’ll leave the landau here for now, in case you need to use it.”
When the carriage exited the workshop and disappeared into the night, Ms. Hua said, “Now your sister has a husband, you won’t be the only one in her heart anymore.”
Only then did Mo Yan realise something, “It’s bad luck for newlyweds to have an empty bedroom, but neither of them were at home last night!”
Ms. Hua shook her head, and returned to the kitchen.
P.S. I think this just implies both of them love Mo Yan. As always, thanks for reading!
