Transmigrated Farmgirl's Scheme to Get Rich - Chapter 219
Jade Ingot
The next day Jiao Song set off back to Shuzhong, while Mo Yan and Chuzi accompanied Lu Junming back to Jiaolan Courtyard.
“Chuzi, pack up everything here and go to the commercial firm. Let’s stop renting the courtyard!”
?As soon as he finished speaking, he heard someone in the yard asking, “Have you returned?”
It was the landlord who came.
“You’ve come here at the right time. We no longer want to rent this yard anymore.”
“You want to stop renting? I heard that your mother didn’t die a good death. You have turned my nice courtyard into a haunted place, who will rent it in the future?”
?Lu Junming was not angry and asked calmly, “Then what do you want me to do?”
“Why don’t you buy this yard? I’ll give you a cheaper price. The person who died here was your relative anyways, she probably wouldn’t come to ask for your life.”
Chuzi came over and said, “Which house hasn’t had someone die in it before, how does that immediately make it become haunted? You are bullying us for being foreigners and want to force us to buy this courtyard.”
The landlord spread his hands and said helplessly, “I heard that this lady swallowed arsenic and died. She committed suicide, so she can’t enter the wheel of reincarnation and has to find a substitute. Hasn’t this become a haunted house?”
They were about to argue again, when Mo Yan came over and asked, “Excuse me, how much does this yard cost?”
“I thought about it while I was walking over here. Originally, the rent for my beautifully decorated yard was several taels a year, and it would have been a long-term source of wealth for me. But now, I don’t want to trouble you either, so it’ll only cost you twenty-five taels.”
Chuzi calculated, “A courtyard as big as our workshop only cost eighty taels. For such a small yard, twenty taels would still be too much.”
“Your workshop is outside of town, while my courtyard is in the street. The location is much better. Besides, my place is so exquisitely decorated, and there is all of this furniture…”
?Lu Junming said, “Just twenty-five taels? We’ll buy this yard.”
Chuzi was still negotiating the price when he agreed, and Chuzi waved his hand before walking into the room he lived in, ignoring them.
The landlord came with the deed for the courtyard. Hearing Lu Junming say that he agreed to buy the courtyard, he immediately took it out and handed it over. Lu Junming took the deed and handed it to Mo Yan, then went to get the money.
Mo Yan stopped him from paying the money and said, “I’m the one who wanted to buy this courtyard, so I should pay. I still have the money.”
“You’ll have many uses for your money in the future. I want this courtyard to have the Lu family’s plaque, you can do whatever you want with it in the future.”
Mo Yan wants to live here, but he wanted to hang a plaque of the Lu family here. His intention was clear.
After paying, the landlord immediately left in fear of being exposed to bad luck.
Turning back to look at the small courtyard, Mu Yan said happily, “Then I’ll be living here from now on.”
Lu Junming said, “Chuzi can’t live here anymore, it’s inconvenient.”
Chuzi came out of his room with a bag, “I’ve already made room for you, and I’ll be living in the storefront from now on. There’s an empty room in the back courtyard. I even checked the door for you.”
Looking at his leaving figure, Mo Yan shouted, “Take the silk away!”
“Tomorrow”, Chuzi left without looking back.
?Lu Junming went into the house to pack his mother’s things, but saw a jewellery box on the table. When he opened it, all his mother’s jewellery was inside.
Opening the luggage they had packed that day, it was filled with Ms. Jiao’s clothes, neatly folded.
“Yan’er, I’ll leave these pieces of jewellery with you first, you can deal with the rest!”
?Mo Yan took the jewellery box and put it in the innermost corner of the wardrobe.
“I’ll ask Sister Lan to come and help me clean up another day. Let’s go back to the workshop first!”
?As soon as he returned to the workshop, Lu Junming entered his bedroom and closed the door. He wanted to be alone, and Mo Yan didn’t want to bother him anymore. She thought that he hadn’t been able to eat or sleep well these days due to the negative emotions plaguing his mind, and he should eat something light to relieve his anger.
She remembered that when Mr. Cao was ill, Ms. Hua cooked tremella and lotus seeds porridge for him, so she wanted to go to the commercial firm to bring back some tremella and lotus seeds to make porridge for him.
When she arrived at the commercial firm, the clerk was arranging a new batch of small items, including decorations and ornaments. She leaned over and took a look, and something immediately caught her eye. It was a jade pendant in the shape of a small ingot.
She reached out and picked it up and asked the clerk, “What kind of jade is this?”
“Reporting to miss, this is just an ordinary Xiu jade, it’s not expensive.”
“I’m taking this thing, put it on my tab.”
She took the little ingot and looked at it again and again. The more she looked at it, the more she liked it. She suddenly remembered the joke they made on the night Lu Junming left for Shuzhong. Why not engrave “two taels” on it and give it to Lu Junming?
“Brother Chuzi, have you found the carver I asked you to?”
“No, there aren’t many people proficient in this trade here. Only the owner of the paper and ink shop in this town can carve anything.”
“Do you have a carving knife, then?”
“Yes, Cao Zhang uses it to practise when he has nothing to do. It’s in the drawer under the counter.”
?Mu Yan went over to find the carving knife, and then went to get some silver-grey thread to make a cord for it.
When she walked to the door, she remembered that she was here to get tremella and lotus seeds. After taking them and returning to the workshop, Lu Junming’s room was still quiet, so she went into the kitchen to make porridge.
Hearing that tremella and lotus seeds had to be simmered over a low fire to be nutritious. She washed the ingredients, sat in front of the stove, and looked at the fire while taking out the small ingot and the carving knife.
?She oversimplified things. Without a background in carving, it would be incredibly difficult to engrave words on jade.
It took her half the day just to carve the word ‘two’, but it didn’t look anything similar, and there were many fine marks on the side. She thought that she might not be using enough strength, so she used more force with the hand holding the knife. She was careless, and the carving knife slipped and scratched her left index finger.
The carving knife was extremely sharp. It made a deep cut on her finger, and blood immediately poured out. She was so surprised that she cried “Agh!” and the little ingot fell to the ground.
“What’s wrong?” Lu Junming came into the kitchen.
At a glance, he saw Mo Yan’s bleeding hand, “What happened to your hand?”
?Lu Junming went over and grabbed her injured hand, “There’s so much blood, let me wrap it up quickly to stop the bleeding.”
He took Mo Yan to his room and found a clean cloth to wrap her finger. The wound was too deep, and blood quickly oozed out. Lu Junming thought of his grandfather’s golden sore medicine, “Just wait, I’ll go back and get golden sore medicine.”
?Last time, when Mo Yan cut her hand while digging for medicinal herbs, the wound on her hand was much bigger. She used Sir Lu’s golden sore medicine and it healed within two days.
Lu Junming mounted his horse and galloped away. Mo Yan was afraid that the porridge in the pot would lose all of its moisture, so went to the kitchen to look at it. She picked up the small ingot that fell on the ground and examined it, but thankfully, it was not broken.
They were only a few kilometres away, and it was a short trip by horseback. Lu Junming came back quickly and found Mo Yan back in the kitchen. He didn’t bother to scold her and gave her medicine to stop the bleeding.
He was not good at bandaging wounds, so he wrapped Mo Yan’s finger into a small bun. Not to mention carving, it would be hard for her to hold anything.
Mo Yan stretched out her hand in front of him, “It’s just a small wound, why did you wrap so much gauze around it? I can’t do anything now.”
??Lu Junming fetched water to help her wipe the blood stains on her hands. He then looked at the scar on her thumb and sighed, “It’s so pitiful that such a small hand has two scars on it.”
Mo Yan said nonchalantly, “I’ll have a mark on it then, which stops me from losing it and not being able to find it.”
