Transmigrated Farmgirl's Scheme to Get Rich - Chapter 226
The Small Red Horse
They chased the horse outside of the workshop, and only saw the small red horse run along the road in the fields before disappearing out of sight.
Chi Jie ordered Ze Wu to fetch his horse, as he wanted to see what was going on. His horse had just been taken over when the small red horse came back from another direction. Mo Yan was on its back, holding tightly to its mane.
Seeing the current situation, they couldn’t do anything except leave it to fate. After the horse ran its third lap around the workshop, its speed visibly decreased, while Mo Yan had long lost all of the strength in her limbs, and just felt that her head had stopped being tossed around.
After running for another half a lap, the small red horse finally stopped running, and Mo Yan let loose her breath. When they returned to the workshop’s entrance, Mo Yan pulled on the horse’s reins, and it stopped. [1]
Jin’er went over to help Mo Yan, who barely managed to get her legs off the horse and she felt them go numb, not even able to walk. Chi Jie came over to hold her, “How are you? Are you alright?”
Mo Yan lightly shook her head, “I’m fine, just tired. This is a good horse, it’s very obedient and I like it a lot.”
Ze Wu took the horse to the stables, and Mo Yan ordered him, “Don’t let it drink water yet!”
Chi Jie said, “Don’t worry, he also takes care of my horse, he knows this!” [2]
He carried Mo Yan to her room, placed her on her bed, and then ordered Jin’er to go to the kitchen to fetch some hot water. Jin’er was smiling the entire way, and when Ze Wu asked what she was smiling about, Jin’er said, “My lady and Mr. Chi are well-suited!”
Ze Wu looked around him, It’s lucky that Lu Junming isn’t here.
As she had exerted too much energy in such a short amount of time, Mo Yan soon fell asleep. This time, she slept soundly, and only woke up at noon. When she got on the ground, she lazily stretched, feeling refreshed.
She went to the courtyard and called out, “Ze Wu, is there anything to eat?”
Chi Jie came out of the office with a pen behind his ear, “Yan’er, you look much better.”
Mo Yan grinned cheekily, “Of course, did you think I would die?”
“No way. Ze Wu, quick, prepare something to eat, there needs to be meat.”
He had just finished speaking when Zhou Liangsheng entered the workshop with a small basket, “I’ve brought meat!”
On the dinner table, while watching Mo Yan ravenously eat meat, Chi Jie regretted not buying this horse sooner. Jin’er said, “This horse seems very compatible with my mistress, and it’s her fortune to have it. My lady, you should give it a name!”
Mo Yan thought about it for a bit, “Since it’s my fortune to have this horse, how about I call it Fubao!” [3]
They all said that this was a good name, and Chi Jie was the only one who said, “Other people’s good horses are called Dayan, or Feiyun, but you’ve actually given your horse just a common name. You can instantly tell it’s a horse from the village.”
Mo Yan was disgruntled, “So what if it’s a common name, the elderly all say that common names lead to obedient dispositions. I like this name, what about it?”
“Alright, alright, it’s a good name, let’s call it Fubao then.”
With a horse, Mo Yan felt like she had become that much closer to reaching Lu Junming, and hope reignited in her heart.
“Chi Jie, when you returned to the Upper Valley, did you ask around about where he is?”
Chi Jie lowered his head to look at the dishes on the table, “He isn’t in a significant position in the army. I asked his father, who said he is currently in Maozhou.”
“Maozhou is a thousand kilometres away from here!”
After saying this, Mo Yan placed a piece of meat in her mouth and chewed vigorously, and the table was so silent you could hear a pin drop.
The employees from the storefront came over to deliver a message, saying that there was another batch of goods from Shuzhong, and Liang Lan invited Mo Yan over to take a look.
Mo Yan placed her bowl down and let out a burp, before saying apologetically, “I’ve ate too much, it’s the perfect time to take a walk.”
Jin’er accompanied her to the storefront, and Mo Zenian was coincidentally at the entrance of their storefront. When they came over, he said, “Yan’er, you have a servant by your side now, your days have really gotten better.”
Mo Yan looked to Jin’er at the side, who said, “This manager, I am not Miss Mo’s servant, but a servant of Lu Manor. My lady is a guest of Lu Manor, and I am simply helping my master take care of her.”
Mo Zenian sneered in dissatisfaction. How could such a flimsy act fool me?
“With how intelligent my Yan’er is, what kind of man could match up to you in the future?”
Mo Yan shook her sleeves, “Manager Mo, you will not need to worry about this manner.”
When she entered the storefront, Cao Zhang just so happened to want to leave, and the two almost collided. Cao Zhang said, “Yan’er, you’ve come? Quickly go in, we’ve received another batch of quality goods.”
Mo Yan said officiously, “Sir, please do not greet me so intimately, I would not want anyone to misunderstand!”
Cao Zhang furrowed his brows, “Misunderstanding, what misunderstanding?”
Mo Yan froze, and he smiled, “I’ve already become a laughingstock in the village, what’s another thing for the people to laugh at me for?”
His expression on his face was no longer as pure and benevolent as before, and there was instead a hint of evil and a sinister nature.
“Cao Zhang, don’t try anything!”
“How would I dare?!”
At that moment, a young lady was about to enter the storefront, and just so happened to stand opposite Cao Zhang. The woman glared at Cao Zhang for a brief moment before saying, “Sir, are you going out again? Why do you leave each time I come in, it’s like you’re avoiding me.”
Cao Zhang hurriedly lowered his head to greet her, “You’re mistaken, there was a new batch of goods and I was just about to go to the commercial firm to record it into the books. Young miss, please enter.”
Mo Yan retreated a step, and the woman brushed across Cao Zhang’s shoulder as she passed, before viciously glared at his temple yet again.
Liang Lan, who was inside the storefront, saw everything that was going on, and ordered her employee to go and greet the woman. Then, she went to talk to Mo Yan, “This Mr. Cao clearly has enough allure for his face to topple cities, but why does he have such tunnel vision, and is obsessed with a crooked-neck tree?”
Mo Yan slapped her on the shoulder, “Who are you calling a crooked-neck tree?”
“Not you, you’re a bamboo pole. You’re so thin you’re basically skin and bones, and all of your charm is gone. I don’t know what he sees in you.”
The woman who just entered the store looked at them, and Mo Yan hurriedly said, “Don’t speak nonsense, I know my limits and Mr. Cao wouldn’t like me even if he was blind. To catch his eye, you’d need to be at least as pretty as that woman over there.”
Ever since she returned from the metropolis, Cao Zhang’s mother hadn’t smiled once, and her body was poor, so she didn’t have the energy to focus on family matters. The family’s good fields had all been rented out, so now they only lived on their rent and the father and son’s incomes.
In the past, she had been set on her son becoming an official, but now he was merely an accountant. Her disappointment was immeasurable.
But for Cao Zhang, it was good that she was unwell, and she no longer had the energy to care about his affairs, and would no longer encourage him to marry a specific person. His mother saw that he liked Mo Yan, and had wanted to find a matchmaker to engage the two, but was rebuffed by him.
The woman looked at the goods for a while before coming over to chat with them, “Excuse me, I’d like to ask the two of you if Mr. Cao is engaged?”
Mo Yan and Liang Lan smiled at each other, “No, if you’re interested in him, you should seize the opportunity. With his conduct and his appearance, who knows how many young ladies are interested in him? His family is in Chenzhong Village.”
The woman’s brows gave off the feeling of a volatile temperament, reminiscent of Liu Yuyan. [4]
The woman has come here for several days consecutively, just to browse the goods, and browsed the goods right in front of Cao Zhang, causing him to feel irritated.
“This young lady, this is a storefront. If you aren’t going to buy any goods, please leave.”
P.S. The promised chapter.
