Transmigrated Farmgirl's Scheme to Get Rich - Chapter 244
Baby Stroller
Xiuying picked up her son and started crying, while Mo Jing started crying along with her. At this moment, Mo Zenian came back home. “What’s going on? I heard you crying and screaming from outside.”
He also noticed Mo Jing’s head injury. “What happened to Jing’er?”
Mo Feng said, “He fell from the bed.”
“Babies have soft bones, and the bed isn’t too high up. He’s not badly just, just had a fright. Xiuying, don’t cry anymore, go and cheer your son up.”
After saying that, Mo Zenian went to the kitchen and went to the back courtyard with a bowl after a bit. Ever since he returned to living in the Mo family, he’d go and give his mother a bowl of food every day. As one old woman wouldn’t be able to eat too much, Mrs. Liang didn’t care enough to hold it against him.
Xiuying was the most unwilling to close their shop out of all of them, but she was also unwilling to leave Mo Jing. The next day, she neither called Mo Feng after waking up, nor did she talk to Mrs. Liang as she carried her son to town on her own.
When Mrs. Liang told them it was time to eat breakfast, only Mo Feng responded from their house. He thought that Xiuying had gone over with their son already, and wasn’t too worried about it. He only realised that she had left with their son when he arrived at the kitchen.
Their first thought was that she had gone back to her natal family with the child, but after thinking about it for a while, it didn’t seem possible.
Mo Feng asked about the matter after leaving the house. When someone mentioned seeing Xiuying going to town with his son, he immediately chased after them.
When he arrived in town, he saw Xiuying busily working at the storefront as always. After going over to take a look, he saw a large basket in the storefront, and Mo Jing was currently playing inside.
“Why did you take our son here?”
“What else can I do? I need to look after my son, what if he falls to his death next time?”
“How can you say something like that? You know that my mother didn’t do it on purpose.”
“If she had done it on purpose, she’d be just like your grandmother, tossed to the side.”
Mo Zenian took a small stool for children to sit on over, “This is something sold by my shop. Let Jing’er sit here, since you’ve already carried him over. The weather’s getting warmer anyways, so it’s fine to let him stay here.”
In the alleyway, there was someone walking over with a large stove, entering the bun shop diagonal to Xiuying’s. She heard Mo Ling ask, “Manager Wu, are you selling crackers too?”
The manager of the bun shop replied, “Yeah! Doesn’t that pair well with your tofu.”
“That’s right! Business will boom!”
Mo Ling had just told Mo Feng that this alleyway is missing a shop that sells crackers and flatbread two days ago. Before Mo Feng could do anything, someone else had already taken that niche.
Mo Yan took Zao’er to the storefronts, but since Mo Ling and Zhong Cheng were making tofu inside, she was afraid Zao’er would get scalded and didn’t dare enter.
Zao’er stretched out his tiny hand towards Mo Feng’s shop. It turns out that he had seen Mo Feng holding Mo Jing.
Mo Yan instantly saw Mo Jin’s head injury, and took Zao’er over to ask, “Brother, what happened to Jing’er?”
“He fell from the bed.”
Without needing to ask, she knew that Mrs. Liang had definitely taken the opportunity of the child sleeping to go to work, and the child had fallen after waking up.
“Have you found a doctor to take care of it yet?”
“We asked Mr. Cao to come over and take a look. He said it wasn’t a big deal.”
“That’s good, but still be careful. Children that small can’t be left alone without supervision. You should prepare a baby stroller, which are the ones where the child can lay down, sit down and stand up, so the child can stay safe inside.
Xiuying hurriedly asked, “Where can we buy one?”
“There should be some at the carpenter’s. If there isn’t anything, you can custom order one from them.”
Xiuying immediately dropped what she was doing, and headed over while carrying Mo Jing, “Let’s go and take a look.” Mo Yan also took Zao’er over.
After asking at the carpenter’s, they actually had a baby stroller. The stroller was like a small bed with wheels. There was a separating wall in the middle made of three movable wooden boards. When removed, the child could stand in there without falling out.
If only the middle board was lifted and placed at the top, it would become a small desk. The child could sit on the other two wooden boards and eat inside the stroller.
And if the child was sleepy, all three wooden boards could be placed down, and the stroller would become a little bed if a blanket was added. If there were mosquitoes in the summer, they could even add a shroud on top.
After seeing the employee’s demonstration, Xiuying immediately approved, but the joy on her face vanished after she asked about the price. It cost two silver taels, and was even more expensive than a wheelbarrow.
“Manager, it’s just a thing for a child, why is it being sold for such a high price?”
The manager replied, “Even though this is just made for a child, take a closer look, the craftsmanship is exquisite! Every single one of these railings are not only smoothened and waxed, but also have carvings. Making this is much more labour-intensive and time-consuming than just making a wheelbarrow!”
Mo Yan helped to try and get a discount. “Manager, on the account of how earnestly my sister-in-law wants to buy this stroller, please give her a discount!”
“Then I can sell it for one and a half silver taels, but I really can’t sell it for any cheaper.”
Mo Yan looked at Xiuying, who still had a conflicted expression on her face, “Manager, my storefront still hasn’t opened today! Can you please reserve this stroller for me?”
Mo Yan knew better than anyone that Mrs. Liang held money in too high importance. Xiuying was definitely unwilling to act on her own, afraid that Mrs. Liang would be dissatisfied when she returned home.
“Sister-in-law, I’ll buy this for my nephew,” she said, handing over the silver taels to pay.
Mo Yan removed the separator wall in the middle of the stroller, placing Zao’er on one side as Xiuying placed Mo Jing on the other. She pushed the two back to the storefronts.
The two children found sitting on the stroller a novel experience, and happily waved their small legs as their small hands banged on the desk.
After returning to the alleyway, Mo Ling also praised the stroller when she saw it, and wanted to buy one for Zao’er as well. Mo Yan said, “There was only this one at the carpenter’s. If you want one, you’ll have to wait a few days.”
She bent down to pick Zao’er up, but he hadn’t had enough yet and was unwilling to get out. She could only let him sit there for a while longer, letting Mo Yan look after the two children at the side.
Shitou ran over to find Mo Yan, saying that something had happened at the knife shop, so Mo Yan called over to Mo Ling, “Sister, I need to go to the storefront, look after Zao’er.” She had left in a hurry, and didn’t know whether or not Mo Ling had heard her.
After the two children in the stroller no longer found it a novel experience, they found it boring just sitting there, so started looking at each other and smiling. Zao’er reached out to poke Mo Jing’s round face, while Mo Jing went to bat away Zao’er’s hand. However, Mo Jing’s fingernails were a bit too sharp, and left two faint marks on Zao’er’s hand.
Zao’er felt pain from the scratch, and slapped Mo Jing on the face while crying. Two scratches also appeared on Mo Jing’s face.
The adults on both sides only rushed over when both children started crying, and both Xiuying and Mo Ling went to their respective children to comfort them.
Xiuying picked her son up with one hand, pushing the stroller into her shop with the other as she complained, “You’re all born from the same parents, so why is the favouritism so blatant? You take care of their child every day with all your effort, but you disappeared after watching my son for just a moment.”
Mo Ling knew that she was talking about Mo Yan, and was blaming her for not properly taking care of her son. Not wanting to cause any more trouble, she picked Zao’er up and carried him back to the storefront. “Husband, let’s go to the carpenter’s to buy a stroller like that, no, a stroller even prettier than that!”
Zhong Cheng could tell that she was unhappy, and didn’t say anything when they went to the carpenter’s, paid a deposit, and commissioned a stroller.
